Full Job Description

Position: Aquatic Biologist, Urban Environments

Responsibilities:

  • Design, plan, and execute comprehensive fish and fish habitat surveys, including baseline assessments and impact assessments, within urban environments.
  • Manage all aspects of environmental studies, from proposal preparation to data collection, interpretation, and reporting, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate regulatory permitting processes for Approvals, Project Reviews, Authorizations, and Wildlife Salvages, liaising with relevant authorities.
  • Develop and implement terrestrial or aquatic habitat mitigation and compensation measures to minimize environmental impacts of projects.
  • Coordinate subcontracting specialties as needed, ensuring alignment with project objectives and regulatory standards.
  • Oversee environmental management and monitoring during project construction phases, ensuring adherence to environmental protection measures.
  • Utilize 5-10+ years of experience in fish and fish habitat assessments, impact assessment, and aquatic habitat restoration and design to inform project strategies.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate ecological considerations into project planning and execution.
  • Stay updated on relevant scientific literature, regulatory changes, and best practices in aquatic ecology and habitat restoration.
  • Foster strong relationships with stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, clients, subcontractors, and community groups, to facilitate successful project outcomes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecological Restoration, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in fish and fish habitat assessments, with a focus on urban environments.
  • Proven experience in report writing and communication, with the ability to convey complex scientific information to diverse audiences.
  • Familiarity with wetland ecology or wetland delineation methodologies is advantageous.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, manage timelines, and allocate resources effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability principles.
