Global Director of Engineering


This role will oversee and coordinate the daily operations of highly skilled engineering staff while ensuring that company objectives and goals are met. Will report directly to the Chief Operations Officer.


You will be in a pivotal position for shaping the direction of projects, engineering excellence, and innovation within the global Mining Solutions group.


Responsible for all aspects of Engineering and Quality Control in a Manufacturing, Remanufacturing and Mining Environment on a Global basis.


Responsibilities:

Operational Support :

  • Champions the entire product engineering lifecycle: specifications, design, development, testing and sustaining.
  • Facilitates communication within engineering groups, ensuring specifications, budgets, priorities, and deadlines are clearly communicated.
  • Provide advice and support to local Engineering Managers on how to manage multiple projects, creating timelines and cost projections.
  • Leads and coordinates engineering functions globally, which include: sales and customer support, manufacturing and production support, reverse engineering and R&D initiatives, in- process quality control checks and audits, tooling calibration, BOM Management and a Quality Management System.
  • Motivate and mentor engineering and design staff.


Innovation / R&D:

  • Maintains knowledge of new trends, developments, technologies, materials, and best practices; applies this knowledge to continually improve product lines and production efficiency.
  • Ensure the engineering department works hand in hand with sales to evaluate options to innovate.
  • Operational business experience including a successful performance track record managing staff and P&L.
  • A demonstrated capability to lead across a multi-divisional large-scale business.

Required Qualifications:

  • BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology
  • 10+ Plus years' experience in a shop, manufacturing environment and/or heavy equipment management
  • Knowledge of mining operations and machine maintenance practices
  • Experience and success leading globally dispersed teams.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with process tools such as profit planning, strategic planning, Organizational Capability Assessment, Lean System/Six Sigma, Supply Chain Management, Fixed Capital Optimization, Quality System, and Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) processes (ISO 9001, etc.).
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally (about 25-30% of the time)
