Location: Woodbridge, ON (100% onsite)

Full-Time Permanent

Purpose

  • In this role, the Sr. Manager of Systems Development leads the systems team that will design, develop, and integrate complex hardware systems for every stage of the client’s Gas Chromatography (GC) and Liquid Chromatography (LC) products lifecycle. The systems lead is ultimately responsible for the entire product life cycle.


Location: On-Site in Woodbridge, Canada


Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the complete design of the GC and LC product lines and successful delivery of New Product Introduction (NPI) Projects and the key member of the project hub.
  • Lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists as part of the systems group.
  • Works cross-functionally to define appropriate platforms and architecture.
  • Works cross-functionally to develop technical, tactical, and strategic plans, systems definition, and feasibility determination.
  • Performs a system integration role by determining which software, and hardware components best fit with the system to be designed to fulfill customer needs.
  • Works cross-functionally to support the Operations, Service, and Business Unit during the product lifecycle to address any product-sustaining tasks related to the quality, manufacturability, and serviceability of the product.
  • Works with the Research and Innovation team to finalize proof-of-concept prototype efforts with a system perspective driving studies and experiments in the initial stages of a project.
  • Participate in developing patentable concepts, designs, and processes; and participate in the patent filing process.
  • Lead integration efforts from a system perspective in the development stages ensuring designs meet requirements.
  • Assess Voice of Customer intelligence and business goals, develop user and system requirements with a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Interact with Support and Operations to assist in knowledge transfer, product transition, and technical support of the client products.
  • Work individually and in groups to provide innovative and competent design solutions.
  • Attend relevant conferences to maintain and grow knowledge base.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining project documents and design history files within the product development framework in collaboration with a project manager.


Basic Qualifications

  • Requires a minimum Master's degree (Ph.D. degree preferred) in Chemistry, Physics, or relevant Engineering disciplines with at least 5 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in product development of chromatography systems.
  • Possess general product development skills and knowledge in specific technical areas and support in a regulated environment.
  • A self-starter and lifelong learner proficient in the development of scientific instrumentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and drive ideas to product realization utilizing a stage gate process.
  • Proven leadership track record in leading a mid-size team of engineers and scientists while mentoring team members to reach their career goals.
  • Knowledgeable in product development workflow and risk management.
  • Proven success delivering upon multiple projects of increasing complexity.
  • Able to troubleshoot and overcome obstacles to meet the needs of the project/customer.
  • Understanding of analytical instrumentation and automation equipment.
  • Demonstrated skill in developing prototype chromatography-based instruments, including performance specifications and test procedures.
  • Demonstrated skill in troubleshooting scientific instrumentation, with an emphasis on chromatography systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to interface with a multi-disciplinary technical team of scientists, hardware engineers, and firmware/software engineers.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must be able to work in a laboratory environment, including manipulating tools, instruments, and components, and handling hazardous chemicals.
  • Documentation, writing, and report preparation will also be required.
  • Some travel might be required.
