**Position Responsibilities:**
+ Develops and maintains tools and dashboards that are used to report trends and benchmarks, in flight recorder data to enhance flight safety.
+ Develops and maintains Python packages and Power BI / Tableau dashboards that report insights from large, cloud-based datasets to cross-functional analytics team members and aircraft operators in an easily digestible and actionable manner
+ Works with internal stakeholders to maintain, communicate, grow, and execute a roadmap of BI and reporting capabilities that include both functional and performance enhancements.
+ Scopes analytical projects, obtains relevant data, validates findings, seeks alignment, and shares results.
+ Analyzes large, cloud-based datasets to identify, disposition, and explain the root cause for unanticipated data trends
+ Exercises critical thinking and innovative problem solving.
+ Ensures commitments and service levels are achieved or exceeded.
+ Develops and maintains partnerships while working in a cross-functional team of Data Engineers, Data Scientists, and Software Developers. Occasional travel may be required.

**Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):**
+ Must be legally able to work in Canada

+ 3+ years of experience in developing and maintaining Python packages that automate the reporting of business insights from large datasets
+ 3+ years of experience in using Matplotlib, Seaborn, and/or Plotly to visually communicate business insights from large datasets
+ 3+ years of experience developing and maintaining Tableau or Power BI dashboards that communicate insights from large datasets
+ 2+ years of experience using complex SQL queries to identify and report business insights from large datasets
+ 2+ years of experience in using Git for version control of software
+ 2+ years of experience in developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
+ 2+ years of experience in analyzing and reporting data stored in parquet, csv, or orc files and SQL or NoSQL databases in Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Azure, or Amazon Web Services (AWS)

**Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):**
+ Experience working with Azure Databricks, Delta Tables, and/or Google Cloud BigQuery
+ Experience working in a role that develops BI reporting capabilities as part of a cross-functional team that includes Data Engineering, Data Science, and/or Software Engineers

**Additional Information:**

The Whitecaps FC mission is To Unite and Inspire Our Communities. We are looking to fill a new role in the position of Data Analyst.
Reporting to the clubsManager,Sport Analyticsand Data Scientist & Architect, the Data Analysts (DA) primary role is to help facilitate performance-related data collection, storage, management, analysis, and communication across the club. The DA will implement best practices in applied sports data acquisition, database management, and statistical analyses to assist in the clubs collaborative, informed decision-making process, in accordance with the WFC Performance Strategy. This position will contribute to both the daily training environment and assist with longer-term research and innovation projects at the WFC when necessary.
How you will contribute general responsibilities
As part of the broader performance data science team, you will be expected to contribute in a collaborative environment working across different parts of the data pipeline related to club performance data:
- Assist with implementing data pipeline workflows for raw and summary data from optical tracking, football event data, wearable technology, and other available data sources as required.
- Assist with developing/implementing football performance analysis/models that can inform decisions about scouting/recruitment, match analysis/review, player development, and opposition scouting.
- Implement quality control and data best practices at all steps of the data pipeline for performance related data data collection, data analysis, and data communication.
- Work collaboratively with physical preparation and medical staff to collect appropriate data sets when required, including force plates, global positioning systems, and strength testing.
- Work alongside coaches, staff, and players, in alignment with the WFC Performance Strategy.
- Assist with analyses for internal and publishable research and innovation projects, as needed.
Qualifications:
Educational Experience
- Postgraduate qualifications in one of the following areas: data science, applied sport science, information technology, epidemiology (with advanced data analysis), or biostatistics.
- Complete continuing education as required for recertification.
Work Experience and Skills
Essential:
- At least 2 years experience in data science and/or applied sports science working in a high-performance sport or business environment (e.g. collegiate, national, or professional sport).
- Ability to work with various data sources, platforms, and data science software. Coding proficiency with SQL, Python.
- Experience coding in a team environment and applying best practices: clean code, testing, code review processes, documentation, version control tools (Git).
- Strong data manipulation skills, including data cleaning, feature engineering, and preparing datasets for statistical inference and analysis.
- Proficient at data visualization and interactive dashboard creation through Python and Tableau.
- Understanding of data engineering and data pipeline construction, database management, data modeling, and data visualization/reporting.
- Proficient at querying REST APIs and working with several data formats (e.g. .json, .parquet, .xml).

Qualification path
No previous professional experience is required to apply to this role, however, working on this project will require you to pass the basic requirements and go through a standard assessment process.
