Job Duties Read & interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications under the guidance of a senior carpenter. Measure, cut, shape, and assemble materials such as wood, wood substitutes, and lightweight steel under the guidance of senior Carpenter. Prepare job layouts and perform basic calculations as directed. Install and finish surfaces of woodwork using basic hand tools and materials like paneling. Work on new builds, renovations, and additions by supporting skilled carpenters in various stages of construction. Aid in constructing foundations, installing floor beams, subflooring, walls, and partitions. Fit and install windows, doors, stairs, trim, and hardware components. Follow instructions to maintain a clean and safe work area and adhere to site safety protocols. Carry and organize materials, tools, and equipment as required by the carpentry crew. Job Description

The carpenter is responsible for constructing and maintaining buildings.

Required knowledge includes: construction and remodeling trades, practices, procedures, techniques, tools and equipment, materials, specifications, quality control, cost control and safety.

The carpenter must be proficient at the following tasks: hanging doors, drilling and setting door hardware, setting windows, layout for stairs and common rafters, formwork, and reading blueprints. The carpenter must also possess the mathematical and analytical skills necessary to do materials estimates.

Qualifications

  • Journeyperson Carpenter ticket or currently registered apprentice
  • Experience with a large general contractor
  • Solid knowledge of tools, materials, safety, and construction best practices
  • Valid driver's license and clean drivers abstract preferred
  • Willing and able to work out of town (Edmonton and surrounding area) 
  • Ability to climb ladders for heights of up to 60 feet is preferred
  • Concrete and formwork experience is preferred
  • Valid Elevating Work Platforms, Fall Protection and First Aid certifications are considered an asset 
  • Lead hand or foreman experience considered an asset

Job Description

Wage: $20.00-$35.00 per hour (based on experience and education)

The Apprentice is responsible for constructing and maintaining buildings. Required knowledge includes: construction and remodeling trades, practices, procedures, techniques, tools and equipment, materials, specifications, quality control, cost control and safety.

  • Lay building foundations.
  • Prefabrication, erection, and removal of structural formwork for concrete foundations, wall columns, beams, slabs, and shafts, including re-shoring.
  • Make repairs to the internal and external structure
  • Cement work including: mix and pour material and pouring cement for stairs, and framing for cement
  • Assemble and fasten materials to make framework or props, using hand tools and wood screws, nails, dowel pins or glue.
  • Construct and maintain structural woodwork, shelving, flooring, tables, chairs, etc.
  • Perform renovations as required
Qualifications

  • Currently indentured into an Apprenticeship Program, Carpenter.
  • Two or more years of experience as a carpenter
  • Currently working in the trade
  • Motivated, Hardworking, able to work long hours
  • Knowledge of carpentry and building maintenance
  • Knowledge of safe operation of basic hand and power tools
  • Knowledge of workplace safety, and safe lifting and handling procedures
  • Mathematical and analytical skills necessary to do material and labour estimates
  • SiteReadyBC training is a prerequisite for employment. If you do not have this training, it can be made available.
