The Role:
We are currently looking to recruit a full-time Childcare Worker (permanent contract, 37.5 hours per week, 5 over 6) to join our Children and Family team in St Joseph's Childcare Centre, Co. Waterford.
The post holder will have responsibility for providing high-quality early childhood care and education while ensuring a safe, secure, and nurturing environment for all children. Working closely with Senior Childcare Workers, Managers, and other team members, the Childcare Worker plays a key role in supporting individual children and promoting their overall well-being.
The role involves assisting in the planning and implementation of age-appropriate, stimulating activities that foster each child's natural development, in line with Siolta, the National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education, and Aistear, the National Curriculum Framework. All duties are carried out in accordance with the policies and procedures of St. Joseph's Childcare Centre and relevant regulatory standards to ensure the highest level of care and safety.

Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills Required
Qualifications
- Minimum FETAC Level 5 in Childcare or Early Years Educator is essential.
- FETAC Level 6 in Childcare or Early Years Educator would be an advantage.
Experience
- 1 year of experience in relevant childcare role is essential.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of the Society and of its mission and values.
- Knowledge of needs and issues of the poor and disadvantaged.
- Knowledge of Aisteoir, Siolta, Better Start programmes and AIM.
- Good knowledge of underlying principles in early years education/afterschool

Job Summary
The Childcare Coordinator supports Kiwassa's vision to grow a welcoming and inclusive community through providing leadership and guidance for a specific childcare program and is responsible for: overseeing a staff team, volunteers and students in program planning for a group of children, orientation of families, staff scheduling and organizing classroom activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
People Leadership and Supervision
- Provide direct supervision, guidance and operational leadership
- Develops and trains staff with the skills required for quality childcare
- Ensures prescribed number of staff are present each day
- Provides appropriate observation and review of employees, recognizes and celebrates successes
- Informs Childcare Director of problems/challenges with employees, and situations that require disciplinary action
- Supports and encourages initiative in the areas of program development, colleague support and interaction with families.

Standards
- Ensures that all safety and supervision standards are implemented and maintained as per licensing and Kiwassa requirements

- Stays up to date with new approaches and activities, looks for innovative and appropriate activities to engage children, families and staff.
Family Communication and Support
- Establishes and maintains positive daily communication and relationships with parents, children, school and KNH staff members
- Engage in conversations with families re: needs they/their child may have, including initiating conversation about getting extra support for children, assisting with referrals to outside organizations when necessary
- Participate in meetings with outside agencies that relate to children in their care
- Main liaison between community agencies and program staff
- Connect through formal (newsletter, email, etc.) means as well as informally
Administration
- Provide input to Childcare Director re: needs of the program, when Director prepares the annual budget
- Purchases snack and program supplies, pays bills, records and submits receipts; maintains and orders supplies within a prescribed budget.
- Assists the Childcare Director or designate in maintaining proper financial record keeping and accounting for program funds.
- Ensures all bills are paid on time
- Tracking program statistics (attendance, etc.)
- Participate in interviewing staff
- Prepares and reviews staff timesheets
- Provides updates and reporting as required
Other
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Early Childhood Educator certification
- A minimum of two (2) years recent, related experience
- Experience working in the social services field, specifically with not for profits
- Must have supervisory experience in a childcare setting
- Experience working with children in a licensed childcare/recreational setting
- Experience working with children with special needs
- First Aid certificate required-Emergency Child Care First Aid or higher
Salary: $33.77/hour
