The successful candidate will have previous ER experience, a positive attitude, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a strong desire to provide exceptional client experience.
Schedule: The schedule provides a great balance of weekday and weekend shifts, ensuring full weekends off per month. The majority of the shifts are day shifts, although there are some requirements for swing and overnight shifts (with premiums). About us: The service currently consists of 4.5 Critical Care Specialists, 8 technicians, and 6 technician assistants. This is an exceptional opportunity for a motivated emergency technician to work in a specialty service that cares for emergency and CC patients. It is also an excellent opportunity for an individual who wants to gain their VTS in CC, or for those who already have it. The Critical Care Service works very closely alongside the Emergency Service, which has a large team of Emergency technicians taking care of triage and ICU patients.
The C.A.R.E. Centre is a combined specialty and emergency hospital that services Southern Alberta and parts of BC. We are a fully functioning referral hospital, with board-certified specialists in a wide range of referral services including: critical care, anesthesia, internal medicine, surgery, radiology, oncology, ophthalmology, neurology, cardiology, dermatology and dentistry/oral surgery.

Central Victoria Veterinary Hospital is looking for an experienced Registered Veterinary Technologist with previous experience in leadership for our Team Lead role in our emergency service.
This will be a unique role, combining the excitement of Emergency care with the opportunity to lead a team of dedicated and hard-working Veterinary Technologists. This role will also work closely with our RVT-led leadership team, Medical Director, and other team leads.
Successful candidates will have experience leading a team, in addition to a desire to grow their skills, a positive teamwork-type attitude and a personality that can deliver exceptional customer service and communication skills. This position offers a combination of time working in the ER as well as administrative time with a daytime-focused schedule. Our team leads are on call for one of every four weeks to respond to concerns remotely. We also offer advanced learning opportunities with our Technical Development Officer and Specialists.
Additional qualifications and attributes to be successful in this role:
Registered Veterinary Technologist, RVT or eligible to register
The ability to support, lead, and provide coaching & mentorship to the team
Ensure new team members receive adequate orientation and training, conduct check-ins with new hires and assist with performance management
Create schedules, monitor workflow and ensure smooth operations
Help maintain a high level of patient care and client service
Proactively identify and address concerns or conflicts

The Ontario SPCA operates two spay/neuter clinics, a wellness clinic, SPCA Mobile Animal Wellness Services unit, and hosts MASH-style clinics to bring routine care and spay/neuter services to underserved communities. We also find loving homes for thousands of animals each year at our animal centres across the province – animals who depend on the compassion of a veterinary care team to bring them back to health so they can get their second chance. A Typical Day
- Welcome clients and their pets.
- Assisting veterinarian with animals before, during, and following surgery as well as assisting them with wellness procedures.
- Preparing surgical equipment, administering, and monitoring anaesthetics and post-surgery clean up.
- Handling, restraining, and caring for animals undergoing treatment and surgery using low stress and fear free techniques.
- Preparing and administering medications and vaccines under direction of veterinarian

The Role:
- Evaluate new animal intake conditions and review medical history including diagnostics;
- Communicate with adoptive families over the phone, email, and in person regarding past medical history and medical plan moving forward (if required);
- Physical examinations and assessments;
- IV catheter placement, venipuncture, cystocentesis;
- Perform in house diagnostics;
- Other duties as required
What You Bring:
- Minimum 3 years of experience as an RVT
- Clinical experience is preferred
- Referral and emergency experience is an asset;
- Shelter experience is an asset
- Knowledge of Avimark and IDEXX is beneficial
- Valid Driver's License (G) & access to a vehicle

Starting at$52,000 per year
Schedule:
Our animals require care year-round, including weekends and evenings. Our team members work varied shifts from Monday-Sunday, including holidays.
