**WHAT''S THE JOB?**
Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Building Systems Technician (Plumbing) is responsible for plumbing, maintenance (preventative, corrective and immediate repair) and mechanical work. This position works as part of a team, and cross-training/maintenance work outside of the primary plumbing trade is expected. Examples of work outside of the primary plumbing trade include snow removal, moving furniture and event set-up.
**Specific Duties and Accountabilities**
Installs, repairs and maintains plumbing and heating-related devices such as but not limited to pumps, water distribution piping, valves, fixtures, back flow preventers and drainage interceptors.
Regularly reacts to plumbing emergencies, including but not limited to leaks, clogged drains and heating repairs.
Performs preventive maintenance tasks on designated plumbing and heating-related equipment.
Makes recommendations for upgrading plumbing systems based on best economical/professional judgement.
Performs routine maintenance checks on building systems including but not limited to inspection, maintenance and replacement of belts/filters.
Carries out preventative maintenance and minor repairs to mechanical systems as required.
Performs all duties in accordance with the Nova Scotia Occupational Health & Safety Act, as well as university and government rules and regulations.
Maintains a clean work environment in the Facilities Shop and in the areas of all work projects.
Assists outside contractors/Dalhousie with steam heat system problems.
On call duties 24 hours per day, 7 days per week on rotation.
Performs other related duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager.

**Your Opportunity**
The successful candidate will work in the GTHA (Greater Toronto Hamilton Area) on challenging and diverse tasks in a consulting and construction inspection role that will require application of technical skills, project delivery, and leadership for construction projects. These projects consist of water pipelines, sitework for municipal water and sewer facilities, sewer lines (involving a range of construction techniques including tunnelling, rehabilitation, and open cut), infrastructure systems including treatment plants, pump stations, and related infrastructure. **Your Key Responsibilities**
+ Provide an on-site presence to represent Stantec and the client by observing and review projects during construction, monitoring conformance with plans, specifications, and other codes and regulations.
+ Provide instruction to the Contractor on requests for information and identify deficiencies in the Contractor's work.
+ Monitor the progress of construction activities, ensuring cost, schedule and quality standards are met.
