Your Opportunity
As a part of our Western Canada Irrigation team, this person will have the opportunity to work on the recently awarded Westside Irrigation Rehabilitation Project (WIRP) in Saskatchewan. Stantec (as a part of Prairie Engineering Partners) will be responsible for completing the fieldwork, planning and engineering to the next stage of project design. The right candidate will have technical skills and experience that can be applied to the delivery of water conveyance projects related to irrigation and irrigation planning for government, municipal, and private sector clients. Projects may include greenfield infrastructure, expansion/upgrades to existing systems, and rehabilitation. The successful candidate is expected to have knowledge and experience working on similar projects. As the Western Canada Irrigation Leader, your tasks will include but are not limited to, leading and undertaking engineering studies, engineering design and document preparation, and related fieldwork or investigations as required.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Overseeing the preparation of engineering reports, drawings, and specifications related to irrigation planning, design, and other related water resources and conveyance projects.
- Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary project teams, clients or other consultants.
- Coordinating and attending field work or field investigations where required.
- Lead client management, business development and proposal preparation.
- Assisting in recruiting and developing the irrigation specialization across the water team.
- Mentoring, training and/or supervision of intermediate or junior engineers.
- Attending in-house and formal training sessions to ensure continuing professional development.
- Adhering to Stantec's Environmental Health and Safety protocols and processes.

Capabilities and Credentials
- Proven irrigation system planning and design experience.

- Experienced with hydraulic analysis/modeling.

Education and Experience

**What you can expect to do here**
+ We are an agile team and are currently working under a hybrid model combining in-person team collaboration days with work-from-home options.
+ You will work closely and collaboratively with Senior Arborists, Ecologists, and Landscape Architects on a wide range of project types to:
+ Complete tree inventories, assessments and related arboriculture field work
+ Respond to tree protection by-law stipulations to determine study scope and prepare tree removal permits
+ Determine approach to large scale arboriculture studies and tree compensation programs
+ Contribute to development of arboriculture and urban forestry policies for our clients
+ Assess impacts to trees from proposed developments and infrastructure
+ Arborist report writing, proposal and occasional presentation preparation
+ Attend meetings as an arboriculture representative for WSP
+ Interpretation and assessment of Species at Risk requirements and implications on projects
+ Prepare Tree Preservation and Restoration Plans
+ Pursuit of arborist specific proposals
**What you'll bring to WSP**
+ A Degree or Diploma in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Studies, Landscape Architecture or Landscape Technology; or similar, relevant education
+ 5+ years of professional experience working in consulting arboriculture (recent graduates with strong, relevant work experience may also be considered)
+ Designation as an ISA Certified Arborist (attained or in progress)
+ Excellent written and verbal communications skills
+ Strong tree identification and assessment skills
+ Project Management skills (time/task management, invoicing, etc.)
+ Experience working with private and public sector clients in delivery of Arboriculture services
+ Strong understanding of Municipal Tree By-Laws and Conservation Authority regulations regarding tree impacts
+ A valid driver's license and ability to travel within the GTA/Southern Ontario to visit project sites
+ Ability to conduct fieldwork independently on a variety of sites
+ Ability to work independently, show initiative and contribute positively to office activities, initiatives, and learning opportunities.
**The following qualifications are strongly desired:**
+ Professional designation as a Forester, Urban Forester, or equivalent
+ Experience performing Butternut Health Assessment (BHA)
