Farm Account Manager Position Description

The Farm Account Manager will join a vibrant team of professionals who are passionate about the SYLVIS mission to Make Waste History through sustainable residuals management. In this role, you will develop, grow, and maintain strong partnerships with landowners across British Columbia to secure the land base required to support company growth and sales objectives. Success in this position requires exceptional networking and relationship-building skills, paired with a solid foundation in agronomy to provide sound advice on soil amendment strategies, fertilization practices, and sustainable land management solutions. The Farm Account Manager will be based in the SYLVIS New Westminster office in Metro Vancouver with the opportunity for hybrid work depending on the location.


Functions and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Land Procurement, Relationship Development and Management
    • Identify, engage, and secure land required for current and future residuals management projects across BC.
    • Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with landowners, agricultural operators, and other stakeholders.
    • Lead outreach activities, including cold-calling, networking, attending industry events, and liaising with agricultural, forestry, and mining associations.
    • Support and manage landowner accounts to ensure long-term satisfaction and ongoing partnerships.
  • Technical & Agronomic Expertise
    • Advise landowners on the benefits and proper application of residual products, including biosolids, wood ash, pulp/paper sludge, and other residuals.
    • Assess sites for suitability, considering environmental, operational, regulatory, and agronomic factors.
    • Provide sound, science-based recommendations for soil amendments, fertilization strategies, and sustainable land management.
  • Operations and Business Development Collaboration
    • Work closely with operations, project managers, and business development teams to forecast and secure land partnerships for upcoming projects.
    • Contribute to project planning and delivery alongside environmental scientists, project managers, and field staff.
    • Assist in the development of marketing strategies and landowner-facing materials to support engagement efforts.
  • Business Growth & Reporting
    • Achieve quarterly and annual land procurement targets to support company growth and project success.
    • Maintain accurate records, land databases, and reports on land procurement activities and outcomes.


Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree or diploma in environmental science, plant science, soil science, agriculture, or a related field
  • Valid Canadian drivers license
  • Professional Agrologist (P.Ag.) or Articling Agrologist (A.Ag) or similar designation an asset


Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in agricultural sales, production farming, account management, or consulting, ideally related to rangeland farming or hay production.
  • Proven ability to interpret soil analysis results, develop fertility programs and provide sound fertilizer recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to connect and build strong relationships with farmers, ranchers, foresters and land owners.
  • Experience communicating technical information to landowners, stakeholders, and the general public in clear language they can understand.
  • Experience using a CRM system to track opportunities and stakeholder data.
  • Experience using GPS and mapping tools to produce site maps and spatially manage land resources data.
  • Ability to travel extensively across British Columbia (company vehicles available for travel).
  • Familiarity with residuals (biosolids, wood ash, pulp/paper sludge, etc.) is an asset.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Prep Manager to oversee the preparation operations on our mushroom farm. This role is critical in ensuring that all growing materials and equipment are prepared, handled, and maintained in accordance with safety and quality standards. The Prep Manager will lead a team, manage daily workflows, and coordinate with other departments to support efficient and consistent mushroom production.

Key Responsibilities:

· Coordinate the timely preparation and distribution of compost and casing, ensuring proper handling and hygiene.

· Manage, train, and schedule a prep team; ensure all staff adhere to safety, cleanliness, and productivity standards.

· Monitor inventory levels of raw materials, tools, and equipment; ensure timely restocking.

· Ensure proper use, cleaning, and maintenance of all prep-area machinery

  • Maintain strict cleanliness in all preparation areas and enforce sanitation protocols to prevent contamination or pest issues.
  • Work closely with the Growing and Harvesting teams to align substrate and inoculation schedules with growing cycles.
  • Maintain Records and data's.
  • Scheduled trucks for loading and unloading Growing rooms.

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in agricultural, mushroom, or food production environments preferred
  • Leadership experience with the ability to manage a small team
  • Comfortable working in physically demanding, humid, and fast-paced environments
  • Knowledge of hygiene, safety, and contamination prevention protocols
  • Attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and operate machinery as needed
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, or weekends as required by production schedules

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Mechanical aptitude for minor equipment troubleshooting
  • Experience with record-keeping software or farm management systems

Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Associate Director Development (OAC) and working in partnership with the Advancement Team, you will be a relationship builder responsible for personal solicitation of donations, estate gifts and sponsorships in the range of 25,000 to 500,000.

As part of our mission to build lifelong relationships within our community, the Development Manager, OAC will play a key role in connecting donors with meaningful opportunities to support the College’s highest priorities. This includes engaging alumni, grateful clients, corporations, and friends of the University of Guelph to build lasting philanthropic support. The Development Manager will personally generate support through relationship-building and strategic engagement, with a focus on both advancing current funding opportunities and identifying new prospects to strengthen and grow our donor pipeline.

This position carries an annual fundraising goal that may evolve year to year, depending on institutional priorities and donor opportunities. Flexibility and adaptability will be essential to success, as will the ability to connect authentically and confidently with donors and prospects from diverse backgrounds. More specifically, the responsibilities of this role include:
Identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding donors and prospects through the fundraising cycle;
Maintaining a personal prospect portfolio of 80-100 cleared donors/prospects, undertaking 10-15 face-to-face meetings per month with donors/prospects;
Preparing briefing materials to support Senior Administration (President, VPs, AVPs, Dean) fundraising activity;
Collaborating with the Director of Advancement, the Dean, Associate Director Development, the Senior Development Manager and other internal partners to identify university priorities that will resonate with donors, e.g., scholarships, sponsorships, and capital projects;
Creating and presenting materials to advance fundraising asks such as: generic cases for support to more customized proposals;
Negotiating the closure of major gifts, including the creation of gift agreements and other supporting documentation;
Actively developing the OAC planned giving pipeline working in partnership with the OAC Director, Associate Director and the University of Guelph’s Gift Planning Manager.

Requirements
The university recognizes that no one individual will have the following skills/experience in equal measure but the qualifications below will be used to assess the suitability of candidates throughout the process:
Undergraduate degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience, ideally with two years of fundraising experience.
Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation is preferred.
Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and professional development.
Proven ability to work independently and take initiative to meet goals and deadlines.
Strong problem-solving skills and persistence in navigating new challenges.
Capacity to manage competing priorities and respond effectively in dynamic situations.
Experience working successfully as part of a team in a fast-paced, complex environment.
Comfort and effectiveness in engaging with stakeholders at all levels, including senior executives.
Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and persuasively, both in writing and in person.
