We are seeking an Aviation Planner to join the expanding Aviation Planning group in our Toronto office. Arup is working with preeminent airport, airline and industry clients regionally and globally who are taking a long-term view and developing projects and programs to address the challenges of the coming years These span the socio, economic and environmental spectrum to deliver long term sustainable development.

Project types include airport master plans throughout the world – recent examples include Mexico City New International Airport, Istanbul New Airport, Barcelona, Madrid, Venice, Solidarity Transport Hub (CPK), and Western Sydney Airport. We have also worked on aviation planning projects (landside, terminal, and airside) throughout North America, including Montreal Trudeau, Toronto Pearson, Los Angeles, New York JFK, LaGuardia, Newark, Chicago O'Hare, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle-Tacoma, Houston, Dallas Fort Worth and many others.

You will provide complete design solutions to our clients and play a key role in the team recognized as a global center of excellence. The opportunity

  • Drafting, elaborating, and evaluating conceptual alternatives for major elements of airport infrastructure including airfield, passenger terminal, landside access, cargo, and support areas.
  • Establishing designs and layouts for passenger terminals and airport facilities including conceptual plans, passenger flows, operational analysis, and high-level phasing.
  • Conducting spreadsheet analyses, using custom in-house or commercial software, to develop facility requirements, analyze connection flows and walking distances, and option analysis for individual airport components or systems of components.
  • Communicating and working with staff at all levels participating in project work.
  • Working with Arup's Global Aviation Planning group and local Transportation Planning group to augment and refine custom in-house analytical tools, and/or develop new tools and methodologies.
  • CAD and graphic support for a variety of airport planning project types, including ground transport, passenger terminal and airside.

Is this role right for you?

  • Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree or equivalent experience and professional license are further assets in Transport Planning, Architecture, or related field.
  • 3+ years' progressively responsible experience in aviation planning, transport planning, or related field, reflecting a professional awareness of today's aviation industry, as well as the planning, design, construction, financing, operation, and regulation of airports.
  • Knowledge of and experience delivering planning work to meet international policies, regulations, and airport planning standards (ICAO / IATA, FAA, other country-specific).
  • Some level of Project Management experience, including establishment of project scopes and budgets, managing tasks and workflows, working with clients.
  • Intermediate CAD / BIM platforms capabilities, such as AutoCAD, MicroStation or Revit.
  • Build graphics and presentation software packages, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, PowerPoint.
  • Analyze data using analytical and database tools such as MS Excel, Access.
  • A commitment to technical accuracy and quality work.
  • Good interpersonal skills crucial for team-based working, often in distributed offices.
  • Excellent planning and organization skills required for our fast-paced environment.
  • Must be highly motivated, proactive, and willing to take on new challenges.

Toronto Hiring Range
– Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Toronto is $75,000 to $90,000 per year.
This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary.

Comox Valley Airport (YQQ)

The Comox Valley Airport Commission (CVAC) is seeking a dedicated and motivated Terminal Maintenance/Aviation Fueling Technician to join our team for a permanent position. Reporting directly to the Maintenance Lead Hand, the Terminal Maintenance/Aviation Fueling Technician plays a key role in keeping the terminal systems in working order and delivering high quality aviation fueling services to our clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform the full range of duties of a Terminal Maintenance/Aviation Fueling Technician Staff member as required.
  • Adhere to safety and security procedures.
  • Assist with emergency response protocols.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to airport patrons and tenants.
  • Maintain knowledge and awareness of WHMIS and biohazard procedures.
  • Support CVAC workplace culture by participating in staff events (e.g., golf tournaments, potluck lunches).
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Lead Hand or Facilities Manager.

Qualifications

  • Experience in airport operations or a related operational environment preferred.
  • Experience operating different maintenance equipment and vehicles. A class 5 driver's licence with a clean driving record is a must. Class 3 with Air Brakes endorsement is an asset. We provide training to suitable candidates.
  • Strong technical skills with experience in mechanical, electrical and plumbing.
  • Knowledge of WHMIS, and health & safety requirements is an asset.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrate the motivation and aptitude to learn new skills and the ability to effectively and tactfully interact with the public.
  • Flexibility to perform a variety of operational and maintenance duties as required.
  • A collaborative team player with the ability to work independently when needed.
