Job Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) is a regulated health care professional who is accountable and responsible for providing quality patient focused nursing care to patients in the Coronary Care Unit. As part of the inter-professional health care team, the RN will practice according to the nursing practice expectations set by Osler, the regulatory practice standards of the College of Nurses and the legislative requirements set by the Regulated Health Professions Act.

Accountabilities:

  • Safe nursing practice in all aspects of the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care
  • Compliance with policies and procedures associated with observations
  • Professional, patient-centred care to ensure patient safety and physiological and psychological well-being, associated with creating a therapeutic relationship and environment
  • Providing care in a compassionate and caring manner within a diverse cultural environment
  • Practicing according to the infection control and prevention measures
  • Responding to emergency situations by recognizing changes in patient's health status and consulting appropriately when necessary using transfer of accountability principles
  • Providing health teaching to patients and families including thorough discharge instructions to ensure the continuity of care in the community
     
Qualifications

  • Acute care experience within the last five years, with a minimum of two years in an acute cardiac or critical care environment required
  • ACLS required
  • Coronary Care I, II and III required, or successful completion of Critical Care certificate or willingness to obtain CC3 within 1 year of hire
  • Must pass an arrhythmia quiz obtaining an 80% to move on to the interview phase
  • Critical Care certificate preferred

Job Description

Osler is pleased to invite all interested and qualified candidates to apply for sponsorship to attend the Critical Care certification program at George Brown College for the upcoming intake. Successful applicants for the in-class program will receive funding for tuition, 13 weeks of paid education time and approximately four weeks of paid department orientation/integration time. Upon successful completion of the Critical Care certification program, you agree to commit to a period of 24 months of full time employment at Osler's Critical Care Departments.

Interested applicants are required to complete an application package consisting of the following:

Successful candidates will be selected based on the qualifications below and completion of virtual clinical testing and a panel interview.

Qualifications

  • Current registration in good standing with the Ontario College of Nurses
  • Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing preferred
  • Must have a minimum of six months to one year recent related acute care hospital experience in an acute medical or surgical unit
  • Current BCLS required (ACLS or CPR-HCP preferred) or must be completed within six months of hire

Overview

Required Qualifications:

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license

Preferred Qualifications:

We are currently seeking full and part-time Registered Nurses (RNs)  to be part of a dedicated and specialized team that will deliver a highly integrated, one team, community palliative care model for the Etobicoke community.  Working in lockstep with health system partners, you will be part of a collaborative team that supports people and their families throughout their palliative care journey.

Job Description

This is a unique opportunity to be part of a tight-knit, collaborative team from across the health sector that will deliver the next generation of palliative care in Etobicoke, providing holistic proactive, seamless care and support to patients, families and caregivers – enhancing quality of life, comfort, dignity and security in patients’ end of life journey. As an integral member of the interdisciplinary care team, the Nurse, Palliative Care provides holistic, patient-centered care that includes symptom management, coordination of care, patient, family and caregiver education, emotional support, and advocacy for assigned patient(s) and/or caseload of patients.

  • Works under the supervision of the Integrated Care Program Supervisor.
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to create personalized care plans based on the patient’s unique needs and goals of care.
  • Participates in clinical huddles and case conferences with team members such as physicians and allied health.
  • Practices in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), the Regulated Health Professions Act and Spectrum Health Care standards, policies and procedures.
  • Travels within assigned region between patients’ residences or facilities
Qualifications

  • Currently registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  •  Minimum of two-years nursing experience, 2 years of palliative care experience preferred
  • Must have experience working with palliative care patients
  • Successful completion of any of the following is considered an asset
    • Canadian Nursing Association (CNA) certification in Palliative Care Nursing or enrollment in CNA certification program in Palliative Care Nursing; or
    • Learning Essentials Approaches to Palliative and End of Life Care (LEAP); or
    • Fundamentals of Palliative Care
    • The Comprehensive Advanced Palliative Care Education (CAPCE)
    • Core Concepts
  • Current police check suitable for working with vulnerable sector
  • Valid Ontario driver's license and reliable vehicle with willingness to travel 
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certificate.
  • Demonstrated competence related to a variety of nursing skills including, but not limited to, wound care, IV therapy, chronic disease management, and palliative care and pain management
