DarkVision, a Koch Engineered Solutions company, is seeking a Data Analysis Team Lead to join our fast growing In-line (pipeline) Inspection team in North Vancouver, BC . DarkVision leverages cutting-edge proprietary acoustic imaging technology to deliver industry leading asset inspection services, capable of detecting defects as small as a few millimeters. As an ILI (In-Line Insepction) Data Team Lead, you will manage a team of Data Analysts to produce accurate inspection reports critical to the safe operation of oil and gas pipelines.

Our Team

Our Data Analysts utilize 3D data visualization software and human-in-the-loop machine learning processes to meticulously analyze ultrasound datasets. The outputs of these analyses result in critical insights that enable our clients to make data-informed decisions on the operations and maintenance of multi-million-dollar infrastructure assets.

What You Will Do

  • Learn the delivery standards and workflow processes for your assigned ILI product line
  • Regularly check in with team members to assess capacity and remove roadblocks or inefficiencies
  • Through frequent 1:1 meetings, track team members' progression in their role, deliver constructive feedback, and ensure they receive proper recognition for their work while building a roadmap for their career development
  • Facilitate communication between your team and other teams and upper management
  • Ensure employees are aligned with the company vision, and that the goals and direction of the team help drive achievement of the vision
  • Facilitate the improvement of workflow procedures and best practices; seek out new solutions, seek feedback, and investigate and implement improvement opportunities
  • Review projects assigned to Analysts on your team; you are responsible for the content and delivery of projects
  • Partner with Recruiting and other Team Leads to recruit and evaluate candidates; a high volume of growth and hiring is expected
  • Make informed recommendations for hiring, raises/promotions, performance management, and further training
  • Develop new and improve existing processes and standards
  • Set project deadlines, assign project leads, and manage follow-up requests
  • Forecast team capacity vs. projected projects, offering transparency to stakeholders

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Experience managing a team producing client deliverables (e.g. reports, analysis)
  • Experience managing early to mid-career individuals
  • Experience leading process improvement initiatives

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Experience in the Oil & Gas industry (e.g. ILI, pipeline or piping integrity, NDE/NDT, well integrity, well logging) or industrial asset inspection services
  • Experience managing teams with at least 5 team members
  • Experience in rapidly scaling an operation or team
  • Able to disseminate complex information and generate pragmatic solutions
  • Able to assess and adjust work processes to meet scaling requirements; delegate and prioritize work effectively among the team

For this role, we anticipate paying $85,000 - $110,000 CAD per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.

What you’ll be doing


The DA is responsible for analyzing and interpreting complex datasets to provide actionable insights to the business. This includes redesigning and rebuilding existing reports, developing new analytical tools, and supporting the data team in operational tasks. The DA works closely with data engineers, business analysts, and business stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of reporting and analytics solutions.

The DA also supports the data governance and data quality strategies by maintaining artifacts such as data dictionaries, lineage, and business rules. This role requires a strong understanding of SQL, Power BI, and Microsoft Fabric, along with the ability to adapt to new technologies and processes.

Internally, the DA works closely with the Operations Department and other business users within BCCNM.

Externally, the DA works with external stakeholders of the College, which may include other consulting firms, Health Regulators, the Ministry of Health and other agencies or bodies in the health care industry.

Together with Data Team, the work of the Data Analyst helps to promote organizational and operational effectiveness and promotes BCCNM’s information governance by ensuring data accuracy, quality, and integrity.

Key Responsibilities include:

  1. In consultation with the Manager, Business Intelligence and Data, contributes to and advocates for the management of data as a key strategic asset.
  2. Work together with data engineers, data analysts, business analysts, business SMEs, records analysts, and privacy analysts to understand data needs and create effective, secure data workflows.
  3. Participate in reporting requirements sessions with product owners, data stewards, and SMEs to gather and document business needs.
  4. Contribute to design activities, including identifying data attributes in source systems, defining transformation rules, and supporting data modeling efforts.
  5. Collaborate with the data team to ensure the designed solutions align with the overall data architecture and business goals.
  6. Support the design, implementation, and maintenance of data pipelines for data ingestion, processing, and transformation in Microsoft Azure Cloud.
  7. Utilize Azure Data Factory, SSIS or comparable technologies to create and maintain ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) operations.
  8. Assist in creating and maintaining data storage solutions, including Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Lake, and/or Azure Blob Storage.
  9. Develop new reports and dashboards to meet business requirements, ensuring they are optimized for performance, usability, and scalability.
  10. Support the data team in operational tasks, including monitoring and troubleshooting data pipelines and reports built in Power BI.
  11. Assist in maintaining and updating Power BI workspaces, roles, and access permissions.
  12. Collaborate with the data team to implement and enforce data governance policies.
  13. Perform data quality checks, build data quality dashboards and ensure data integrity across systems.
  14. Document data processes, report logic, and data lineage.
  15. Implement data validation and cleansing procedures to ensure the quality, integrity, and dependability of the data.
  16. Monitor and resolve data pipeline problems to ensure consistency and availability of the data.
  17. Identify opportunities to improve data processes, reporting tools, and analytical capabilities.
  18. Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in data analysis and visualization.
  19. Ensure compliance with data governance, privacy, and security policies.
  20. Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing learning related to Indigenous cultural safety and humility to constructively disrupt Indigenous-specific racism in BC’s healthcare system.
  21. Foster and maintain an organizational culture that promotes equity, diversity, inclusion, mutual respect, teamwork, and service excellence.

Your education & skills

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or another quantitative field, plus relevant experience.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL), and familiarity with a variety of databases.
  • Proven experience in report development using Power BI, SSRS, and Excel.
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL for data querying, manipulation, and analysis.
  • Proficiency in Power BI (DAX, data modeling, visualization best practices) and experience in setting up and managing Power BI workspaces and access controls.
  • Familiarity with data visualization best practices and design principles.
  • Experience with ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes using Azure Data platform, Microsoft Fabric or similar technologies.
  • Knowledge of data warehouse and data mart design, implementation, and maintenance using Microsoft Azure Data Platform (e.g., Azure Synapse, Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Lake).
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) is considered a nice-to-have.
  • Strong analytical skills related to working with structured and unstructured datasets.
  • Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • A successful history of manipulating, processing, and extracting value from large, disconnected datasets.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of relevant legislation, ethical and legal obligations, and guidelines relating to privacy, confidentiality, and security of information.
  • Experience supporting data governance and data quality initiatives, including maintaining data dictionaries, lineage, and business rules.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to use audience-appropriate communication and language to present information, analyze results, and convey concepts.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including data engineers, business analysts, and business stakeholders.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and manage workload within a time-sensitive environment.
  • Ability to work outside of regular work hours, on occasion, to ensure the smooth functioning of related systems and deliverables.
  • Knowledge of Canadian colonial impacts on Indigenous people in social and health contexts, including social, economic, political, and historical realities impacting Indigenous communities.
  • Familiarity with Indigenous-specific anti-racism and accompanying reports (e.g., The Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action (2015), the In Plain Sight Report (2020), and Reclaiming Power and Place’s Calls for Justice (2019)) is an asset.
  • Demonstrated understanding of equity, diversity, inclusion, and cultural humility as they apply to healthcare is an asset.

In this dual-focus role, you will work closely with stakeholders across the finance business to define and build semantic models in Snowflake, while also contributing to upcoming data migration initiatives that involve rebuilding and modernizing our core Python-based ETL pipelines.

This position is a 50/50 blend of business-facing semantic modeling and production-grade data engineering, offering a unique opportunity to drive both insight accessibility and data infrastructure modernization. You will become the subject matter expert (SME) for Mogo’s core consumer finance products and help shape the next generation of AI-powered analytics at Mogo.
 
Base salary for this role: $80,000 - $100,000 CAD
 
What You’ll Do & Key Responsibilities:

1. Business-Facing Semantic Modeling (50%)

  • Design and maintain semantic data models in Snowflake to support our products, powering self-service analytics via Cortex Analyst.
  • Partner with Finance, Product, and Risk teams to define KPIs, translate business logic into reusable data models, and ensure consistent reporting.
  • Collaborate on the development of an AI-powered chatbot using Streamlit (Python) that answers natural language questions based on semantic models.
  • Act as the SME for Mogo’s core consumer finance products, ensuring models are well-aligned with business workflows and financial reporting needs.
2. Data Engineering & Migration (50%)
  • Support and lead aspects of data migration initiatives by analyzing, redesigning, and implementing production-grade Python ETL pipelines.
  • Ensure new data pipelines are reliable, scalable, and observable, with appropriate documentation and governance.
  • Work closely with other teams to integrate ETL pipelines into the broader production environment.
3. Culture & High Performance
  • Embody and model Mogo’s high-performance attributes: ownership, collaboration, innovation, speed, and impact.
  • Share knowledge and best practices across teams to foster data-driven decision-making.
What you will bring:
  • 4–7 years experience in a data engineering, analytics engineering, or hybrid data role.
  • Strong proficiency in Python for building, testing, and maintaining ETL workflows.
  • Experience building or maintaining semantic data models in Snowflake or similar platforms.
  • Strong understanding of SQL, data modeling, and dimensional modeling practices.
  • Ability to work closely with stakeholders to capture requirements and translate them into robust data structures.
  • Experience working with AI powered analytics tools or interfaces (e.g., Cortex Analyst, conversational analytics).
  • Familiarity with best practices in production-grade ETL deployment: testing, monitoring, observability.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with data orchestration tools (e.g., Talend, Airflow).
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Looker)
  • Familiarity with financial services, particularly lending, credit risk, or loan servicing.
  • Experience contributing to data platform modernization or migration initiatives.
