Position Summary/Objective:

As the Accounting and Finance Intern, you will be responsible for assisting the Controllership team with key accounting activities, including period-end close, audit preparation, and process documentation. In this role, you will play an important part in supporting the Finance department by helping ensure that accounting processes and records are accurate, organized, and completed in a timely manner.

This internship also provides a unique opportunity to gain valuable exposure to financial reporting, audits, and internal controls, offering practical learning experiences that will help build a strong foundation for a career in accounting and finance.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate and uphold Riverside's Core Values in daily work.
  • Support the Controllership team in key accounting activities, including period-end close, preparation of journal entries, and reconciliations (e.g., fixed assets, prepaids, bank accounts).
  • Assist in audit readiness by preparing documentation, responding to auditor requests, and gaining first-hand exposure to audit processes.
  • Contribute to process improvements through documentation of standard operating procedures (SOP)
  • Gain hands-on experience with financial systems including SAP and SAP Concur.
  • Provide support across Finance functions (Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Treasury, Tax) and help maintain accurate records.

The Accounting Intern reports to the Financial Reporting Manager & Shared Services Manager.

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of automotive finance or lending experience, with deep Special Finance expertise.

  • Proven ability to structure complex deals, handle negative equity, and navigate lender parameters.

  • Strong knowledge of consumer credit reports and finance regulations.

  • Relationships with key lenders and a sharp understanding of credit structuring.

  • Leadership experience in a multi-dealership or large retail environment (preferred but not required).

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills.

  • Experience coaching and developing high-performing teams.

  • Willingness to travel across New Brunswick and Nova Scotia as needed.
