As an Employment Consultant, you’ll be responsible for providing solution focused approach to assisting client find and maintain employment. In this role, you will ensure successful outcomes for clients while working to achieve contract deliverables. You will work with an assigned caseload of clients facing multiple barriers to employment and provide a range of supports to clients and their employers for the purpose of ensuring clients maintain their employment. You will work to develop a positive relationship with the client, encouraging, motivating, and supporting the clients to achieve sustainable employment, and increase independence and self-sufficiency as appropriate.
If you have a background in social services, community services, sales, customer service (particularly recruitment consultants), education, and human resources, you may find you have the skills needed to be a successful Employment Consultant!
What you’ll do
- Positively contribute to monthly individual and team Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) while managing a challenging workload through prioritization and effective time management
- Develop and maintain relationships with community stakeholders as part of generating and managing client referrals
- Conduct Assessments to understand and document the client's employment-related strengths, needs, abilities, skills, and other relevant employment-related factors
- Support the development of an individualized Employment Action Plan to support the client’s journey to securing long-term employment
- Maintain regular face-to-face contact providing pre-employment assistance through vocational advice, job search training, skill development, work preparation and other activities outlined in the Employment Action Plan, supporting a client’s return to employment
- Support clients with awareness and navigation, including accessing community resources to improve their job readiness, including facilitating and following up on referrals as appropriate
- Conduct initial employer on-site visits to ensure the best working conditions for our clients
- Assist the client and/or employer to resolve issues that may impact the client's ability to maintain employment
- Identify and arrange for any accommodations and supports necessary for the client to continue employment
- Coordinate and facilitate required training that will support job retention, including on-the-job training
- Provide services in a manner that is welcoming, safe and professional and ensures that client privacy is protected
What you bring
- Demonstrated experience in conducting and interpreting client assessments; coaching and mentoring clients; working with individuals with complex barriers and a broad range of cultural backgrounds
- Knowledge of the local labour market, community resources, government programs, job search techniques, career development and issues relating to unemployment
- Excellent documentation and report writing skills, as well as in interviews/assessments, professional resume writing, vocational counselling, and individualized goal setting and planning
- Solid understanding of confidentiality and other professional codes of conduct
- Ability to work outside business hours, including in shifts and evenings, when required
- Strong digital literacy, including MS Office suite
- Employment conditional on obtaining a criminal record check
Preferred:
- Post-secondary certificate, degree, or diploma in a relevant field (e.g., career or employment development, vocational rehabilitation, social work, psychology, sociology, human services, counselling, education, or human resources management)
- Experience in effectively and creatively connecting clients to employers based on mutual needs/benefits
- Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP) certification
- Bilingual (English and French) a strong asset

Program Overview
Our pre-employment and employment programming includes a variety of interventions aimed at supporting vulnerable populations, including youth delivered through different services in the Jane and Finch community. Services focus on at-risk and multi-barriered youth with an ultimate goal to assist participants with gaining essential employability skills.
We’re looking for someone who will:
• Conduct targeted Community outreach in the Jane and Finch community to increase JVS visibility and ensure JF programs reach intake numbers
• Partner, liaise and collaborate with community organizations, build and maintain strong relationships with other relevant stakeholders with a focus on Jane and Finch community and youth
• Focus on meaningful engagement of multi-barriered youth to support their pre-employment preparation and as a result, enrollment in Integrated Employment Services (IES)
• Lead, organize, coordinate and support delivery of relevant workshops
• Lead and promote JVS Toronto Youth Services to a wide range of stakeholders and build strategic partnerships through the GTA
• Identify consultants to deliver various life skills workshops including but not limited to financial literacy and budget management, conflicts resolution and more
• Prepare and submit statistical reports and analysis as per funder requirements
• Ensure quality assurance systems are in place and adhered to, including standards of practice, benchmarks and customer satisfaction
• Analyze and evaluate outreach and program data, develop reports and make recommendations as required by funder and JVS
• Lead and contribute to cross-JVS projects and initiatives and, as a member of the Management Team, contribute to the agency
Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
• A degree or post-secondary diploma
• Experience leading programs for youth as well as developing and leading outreach activities
• Management experience considered an asset
• Effective written and verbal communication and report writing skills for internal and external communications
• Demonstrated strength in motivating, coaching, problem solving, and decision making
• Effective organizational and time management skills
• Strong interpersonal skills, works well without supervision within a team environment and can work with multiple levels of management; culturally sensitive
• Computer literate; the ability to learn systems used by the agency
• A clear Police Vulnerable Sector check is required for this position
