Current Shift:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: 8:20am to 3:15pm
Wednesday, Friday: 8:20am to 2:05pm
(Includes 1/2-hour unpaid lunch) 10 months per year while regular classes are in session
Additional minutes per day are included in the ‘Current Shift’ schedule above, which staff are expected to work daily in lieu of the spring break closure week in order to allow employees in continuing and temporary assignments to be paid their regular pay during the spring closure week as per Letter of Understanding -Spring Closure Week.
Pay Rate: $29.94
This position is entitled to collaboration time as outlined in the Letter of Understanding - Support Staff Learning Improvement Fund.
Position supports student(s) who routinely require assistance with lifting, transferring, positioning, toileting, personal care and sometimes feeding.
Successful candidate should be comfortable in supporting students in both junior and senior level academic subjects

Reporting Relationship
The Teacher Assistant will work under the direction of the Classroom Teacher and School Principal.
Position Summary
The Teacher Assistant is responsible for the provision of classroom support and instruction where applicable.
Essential Functions
- Assist students with lessons under direct supervision of classroom teacher
- Monitor and report to classroom teacher on student progress
- Assist in preparation of learning materials and learning environment
- Accompany and supervise students during activities in school gymnasiums, laboratories, libraries, resource centre and on field trips
- Assist special needs students with mobility, communication and personal hygiene
- Prepare classroom displays and bulletin boards
- Assist the teacher in the operation office equipment (i.e., computers, tape recorders and photocopier, etc.)
- Carry out behaviour modification, personal development and other therapeutic programs under supervision of professionals such as special education instructors, speech and language pathologists
- Monitor students during recesses and lunch breaks
- May assist with preparing tests and worksheets
- Interact effectively with students
- Assist in school library or office other areas as assigned by Classroom Teacher and the School Principal
- Assist in instructing of students in the Ojibwe language and provide related programming where applicable
Qualifications & Requirements
Preferred, College Diploma in related field of education or equivalent or social services with a minimum of two (2) years
work/volunteer related experience with the completion of secondary school or equivalent
Minimum, College Diploma in a related field of study or five (5) years work experience in related field
Other, Good rapport with young people
- Good interpersonal skills, dependable, reliable and willingness to work in cooperation within a strong team environment
- Must have knowledge and/or experience with the culture, history and customs of the Anishnaabe
- Understanding and fluency in Anishinabemowin is a strong asset; or must be willing to learn the language
- First Aid Certificate and CPR would be an assest
CRC/VSS Rationale: MChigeeng First Nation and its agents are in a position of trust in services to band member children and/or vulnerable adults, so a safe and secure working environment is mandatory. Applicants must provide a clear VSS Certificate and the CRC must have a record clear and/or dated of any convictions relating to alcohol, drugs, assault, violence and theft. The CRC and VSS must be current (30 days) and must be an Original.

Position Overview:
We are currently seeking a dependable, nurturing, and proactive Early Childhood Assistant (ECA) to support our Preschool program. This role involves working closely with the Preschool teacher to ensure a structured, caring, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for our youngest students.
The successful candidate will bring experience in a Canadian preschool or academic childcare setting, demonstrate professionalism in their communication with staff and families, and possess the initiative to lead or co-lead small groups when needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support daily classroom routines including hygiene, toileting, snack, dressing, naptime, and transitions
- Assist the Preschool teacher in delivering structured, age-appropriate learning through crafts, stories, movement, and guided play
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom environment that aligns with school policies and health standards
- Supervise and engage students during indoor and outdoor play, supporting social development and modeling respectful behaviour
- Provide individualized attention and support based on each childs strengths, needs, and developmental goals
- Document observations and contribute to parent communication and progress reporting as directed by the classroom teacher
- Build professional relationships with students, staff, and families, reinforcing the schools structured and supportive culture
- Participate in collaborative activities across the early years team and support school events as neededA nurturing, responsible individual who thrives in a structured and child-focused environment
- Apply a strong understanding of early childhood development and classroom routines.
What We Are Looking For:
- A relationship-focused support staff person who can create a nurturing, supportive, and engaging classroom environment.
- Demonstrated ability to follow direction and contribute actively to a team
- Experience supporting learning through song, craft, games, and structured academic play
- Confidence supervising preschool-aged children with consistent expectations and a calm tone
- Ability to communicate clearly with staff and families in a professional manner while understanding and supporting each familiy's parenting style in a Canadian context
- Familiarity with Montessori /Reggio approaches is an asset
- Must be able to apply the concepts of "How Does Learning Happen"
Adaptability, dependability, and a positive, proactive approach to day-to-day classroom support
Qualifications:
- ECA, RCA, or equivalent certification in early childhood education or care is valued
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a Canadian licensed preschool, academic childcare centre, or JKGrade 1 classroom
- Fluent in spoken and written English with strong communication and documentation skills
- Current Vulnerable Sector Screening, updated immunization records, and CPR-C/First Aid certification
- Preference will be given to candidates currently residing in the Kitchener-Waterloo area
