Job DescriptionProviding patient care, triage and nursing assessment in all areas of the Emergency Department, you will administer care to adult and paediatric patients from all triage priorities. It is essential you are competent in a diverse range of skills from stabilization and care of the critically ill to first aid. You may be required to transport critical patients including burn victims, neurological emergencies and trauma victims to other facilities.
QualificationsHalton Healthcare is seeking individuals who are competent in their chosen profession; patient/customer focused; team players; effective communicators; caring and respectful and are fiscally responsible.
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Current Heart & Stroke approved Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at time of hire
- Current ACLS Certification required at time of hire and ongoing
- Minimum of 2 years current Emergency nursing experience required
- ECG monitoring including arrhythmia interpretation required
- Post-diploma Emergency courses, successful completion of Canadian Emergency Nursing Certificate Exam and/or ACLS would be preferred
- Computer skills an asset
- IV therapy skills required
- Excellent teaching and public relations skills
- Good team player
- Self-directed
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position
- Satisfactory employment and attendance record required
The ideal candidate is strong in patient centered care in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment and should be ready to drive change and innovation. We require a person with good communication skills with a clear patient focus with the ability to manage execution and to foster teamwork and cooperation.
Additional Information
Hours: Various rotating 12 hour shifts. 0730-1930, 1930-0730. Hours subject to change based on operational requirements.
Salary : $39.07 to $56.00 per hour

Shifts would be early morning, afternoon, evening, overnight with consistent hours and a set schedule until further notice.
Responsibilities
- To provide nursing care in accordance with established policy, physician's orders, the resident plan of care, and within the scope of practice of an RN.
- Utilize sound nursing practice principles to ensure the delivery of excellent nursing and personal care in the assigned home area(s).
- Ensure a timely and accessible admission for the residents including a comprehensive orientation to the home and the services offered within the home
- Ensure that resident transfers and discharges are timely and safe
- Ensure the supply, control, and safekeeping of drugs and narcotics, ensure protocols are followed on all assigned shifts * Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care to meet the physical, psychological, emotional, spiritual, cultural and social needs of the residents
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science Nursing (BScN), Bachelor of Nursing (BN), or equivalent
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
- Basic computer proficiency
- Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
- Deals with others in an effective, compassionate and supportive manner
- Respects each resident as an individual and is aware of his/her need for self-respect and privacy, and the right to share in decisions about his/her care
- Knowledge of the Long Term Care Act, Program Standards for Long Term Care, the appropriate sections of the Health Disciplines Act, Occupation Health and Safety Act, Pharmacy Act, Food and Drugs Act (Canada), Narcotic Control Act (Canada), Coroners Act, College of Nurses of Ontario Standards of Practice and other pertinent Federal, Provincial and Municipal Statues which influence the operation of the Nursing Home and more specifically the nursing department.
