Position Summary:
My client, a manufacturing company is seeking a skilled Industrial Engineer / Process Improvement professional to drive enhancements across both shop and field operations. This role involves analyzing, designing, and implementing systems and processes that improve efficiency, quality, and productivity. A strong focus will be placed on process improvements, waste reduction, and operational optimization through the use of Lean Six Sigma principles and other continuous improvement tools.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Process Analysis & Optimization: Assess existing workflows, material handling procedures, and labor utilization to identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements aimed at reducing waste and improving operational effectiveness.
  • Lean Manufacturing Implementation: Apply Lean manufacturing principles such as 5S, Kaizen, and Just-In-Time inventory systems to minimize waste in materials, time, and resources.
  • Layout and Flow Optimization: Design efficient layouts and enhance material flow to streamline fabrication processes, reduce unnecessary movement, and increase field readiness.

  • Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Collaborate with the Quality Management team to develop, refine, and maintain SOPs to ensure consistent quality and productivity across operations.
  • Training and Development: Provide training to staff on Lean methodologies, new technologies, and updated SOPs to promote a culture of continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial engineering role, preferably in steel fabrication or construction.
  • Proven expertise in Lean manufacturing techniques and process optimization.
  • Strong analytical capabilities with demonstrated experience in data gathering, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.

Mandate

  • Deliver a safe and highly optimized gas processing facility design.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design, review and execution of process engineering deliverables throughout the facility across all engineering stages, including Feasibility and Process Studies, Conceptual Design, DBM Development, FEED and Detailed Engineering Design.
  • Provide expert-level guidance on sour gas separation and processing, acid gas compression, acid gas injection and co-injection, and gas sweetening units.
  • Support the design, review, and execution of the gas processing infrastructure Develop and validate process simulations and modeling for gas processing facilities.
  • Author and review, critical design documents, including material balances, PFDs, P&IDs, shutdown keys, control narratives and Process Engineering reports in support of gas processing infrastructure as well as other area of the facility as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position manages all technical and process control aspects, develop plans, coordinates, tracks, qualifies and implements assembly processes from conceptual design into functional assemblies that meet Amphenol cost, delivery, and capacity needs while meeting all customers’ requirements. Develop automated processes and monitor areas of continues improvement in quality, safety, cost, and efficiency including SMED, TPM (LEAN tools) and other tasks via a structured development process. Assist with costing, capital and capacity projections in preparation of financial justifications for new products in development and for product changes or extensions. Complete process development deliverables including PFMEA’s, Process Qualification Plan, Control Plans, Workmanship standards and DOE’s related to process development.

  • Interface with vendor on new automated equipment development.
  • Work closely with operations in defining operations plans capacity plan, time study, takt time, line balance, flow diagram, line lay-out, work instructions, workmanship standards, control and inspection plans and other manufacturing documentation.
  • Work with manufacturing team to develop capacity and cost reduction plans for high volume efficiency, product cost reductions and capacity planning.
  • Travel both domestically and internationally will be required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

JOB SUMMARY:

In this dynamic, fast-paced environment, the Process Engineer is responsible for working with Design Engineers, Lab Technicians, Product Development and Manufacturing teams to provide leadership and technical expertise optimizing manufacturing processes while ensuring process safety, quality, and efficiency. This role is central to maintaining stable production operations, supporting plant floor activities, and continuously improving systems to reduce risk and enhance productivity. Reporting to the Director, Product Development , this role supports the product development team and the production team in a cross functional approach to manage multiple projects across different product lines and markets.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, evaluate, and refine manufacturing processes to improve throughput, efficiency, and product quality. Implement and maintain standard work documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with process safety requirements, including risk assessments, hazard identification, and safe operating procedures. Participate in or lead PHA (Process Hazard Analysis), MOC (Management of Change), and safety audits.
  • Drive lean manufacturing and Six Sigma projects focused on process improvements, cost reduction, waste elimination, and quality enhancements.
  • Train operators and technicians on new processes, safety procedures, and best practices. Serve as a hands-on resource for day-to-day process troubleshooting and improvements.
  • Maintain and improve visual control systems (e.g., visual work instructions, KPIs, safety alerts) to ensure clarity and standardization across the production floor.
  • Coordinate the implementation of new product introductions (NPI) and pilot runs. Collaborate with R&D and design engineering teams to transition new designs to production.
  • Support internal quality tracking, defect analysis, and corrective actions to maintain high product standards.
  • Manage Engineering Change Notice (ECN) updates and ensure seamless integration into existing processes.
  • Collaborate with materials, packaging, and project management teams to support operational readiness and efficiency.
  • Provide floor-level technical and supervisory support to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.

Education/Training:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing engineering (or related field).
  • Formal education or certification in process safety (e.g., OSHA PSM training, NEBOSH Process Safety Management, or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in a process engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of process safety standards, hazard analysis methods, and risk reduction strategies.
  • Strong understanding of production processes and quality systems.

Preferred:

  • Experience in high-risk or regulated industries (chemical, oil & gas, or advanced manufacturing).
  • Proficient in lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and root cause analysis tools.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems, data analysis software (Excel, Minitab), and Solid Works.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 45001, or similar standards.

Experience:

  • Knowledge of the full product development cycle from brief to production implementation
  • Advanced knowledge of the principles, theories, concepts, and practices of project management
  • Document control and management experience; solid technical ability in project management computer applications and data bases
  • Agile project management experience an asset
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment an asset

Halyard is a highly skilled multidisciplinary engineering company with services including site studies, design, procurement, cost control, program management, implementation, and commissioning predominately in the mining and utilities sector.

The Process Engineer plays a key role in developing solutions in all areas of the process plant across various systems, unit operations and process equipment. It is expected that the Process Engineer will work within the process engineering department within the company by completing designs and analysis across a wide range of commodities and participating in commissioning. Reporting to the various Lead Process Engineers, this position is primarily office based in Toronto. Travel can be expected on most projects and is highly dependent on the projects scope which may be up to 30% of the time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work within the process and mechanical engineering development for Halyards various client projects.
  • Perform process engineering tasks on metallurgical aspects of projects, in a variety of commodities.
  • Operate with full competence and independence in the execution of all design calculations, design criteria, in the compilation and execution of equipment lists and calculations.
  • Develop new criteria/calculations where required, maintaining
    high levels of accuracy.
  • Actively engage with clients to understand project requirements.
  • Define the process design criteria and process block flow diagram and unit operations.
  • Compilation of Process Flow Diagrams, along with associated mass and energy balance calculations.
  • Undertake trade off studies to identify preferred options.
  • Identify
    testwork scope and manage / participate in test work campaigns.
  • Conduct capacity analysis for existing plants.
  • Select the equipment for projects.
  • Carry out engineering design calculations and equipment sizing calculations.
  • Prepare specifications of process attributes for equipment, through compilation of process datasheets (or process input to general datasheets).
  • Compilation of Process Description Design of the process control logic adhering to appropriate safety standards, and documentation into Functional Descriptions.
  • Display full competence and independence in the compilation of P&IDs and all levels of control philosophies.
  • Ensure process specifications portray the appropriate information and design intent.
  • Process review of equipment bids.
  • Liaising with other discipline engineers to ensure designs conform to process requirements.
  • Contribute to hazard studies.
  • Compile operating cost estimates including estimation of consumables, labor, maintenance materials and power.
  • Provide input to capital cost estimates.
  • Prepare well written project reports.
  • Play a lead role in on-site commissioning of new equipment and process systems.
  • Participate in the preparation of proposals and other business development initiatives.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Chemical Engineering or Process Engineering or Extractive Metallurgy degree required.
  • Professional Engineering of Ontario (PEO) membership (P.Eng.) required.
  • Ability to lead processing engineering tasks on a project, within the allocated budget and schedule, and professional interaction with other project disciplines.
  • Design, commissioning and/or operational experience of hydrometallurgical processing equipment.
  • Have site-based construction and commissioning experience.
  • Extensive mineral processing experience is required specifically involving gold, base metals, uranium and industrial minerals projects including processes like comminution, flotation, leaching, thickening, heavy media separation, optical sorting, dewatering and slurry pumping.
  • Have the ability to problem solve and work calmly in stressful situations.
  • Must have strong oral and written English communication skills.
