The Front-End Designer(s) will work as part of cross-functional program review or product delivery teams. These teams, led by the client's product owners and 3D work collaboratively and collectively participate in a full range of activities including: field research, backlog definition and refinement, and sprint planning and execution.
Digital transformation projects review the current state of services, identify future opportunities, and then deliver new services that are efficient, effective and affordable.
From research and findings, the Front End Designer(s) will develop design documentation, including for interfaces.
Scope of Services
It is anticipated that the Front-End Designer will be required for one (1) year; however, the province may extend the contract for up to twenty-four (24) months on the same terms and conditions.

Project Overview
The Province has a strategic role within government to drive efficiencies, innovation and modernization. As part of this role, the province is expanding the client's digital delivery of services with the view of simplifying and providing better user experiences with interactions with the company. The Digital Design and Delivery Division ("3D”), is the province’s centre for digital delivery. It was established to maximize capability and confidence in modern digital practice by ensuring service quality and value through standards and controls. This includes utilizing human-centred design approaches together with agile methodology and modern data practices
3D works in partnership with the client's ministries to deliver programs that better serve Albertans.
The Province requires up to twenty-three (23) Front End Designer(s) to work with 3D on service innovation, program review and digital transformation projects across the company.
The Front-End Designer(s) will work as part of cross-functional program review or product delivery teams. These teams, led by the client's product owners and 3D work collaboratively and collectively participate in a full range of activities including: field research, backlog definition and refinement, and sprint planning and execution.
Digital transformation projects review the current state of services, identify future opportunities, and then deliver new services that are efficient, effective and affordable.
From research and findings, the Front End Designer(s) will develop design documentation, including for interfaces.
Scope of Services
It is anticipated that the Front-End Designer will be required for one (1) year; however, the province may extend the contract for up to twenty-four (24) months on the same terms and conditions.
- The Front-End Designer will be required on a full-time basis (7.25-hour work day), working across two (2) to three (3) projects.
- Time, location and frequency of work will vary depending on the needs of the particular project.
- At the end of each term, it is expected that the Front-End Designer may work a maximum of 1,960 hours, unless otherwise agreed upon with the province.
- However, a Front-End Designer may be required to work fewer or more hours depending on the nature and needs of their work, as directed by the province.
- Services and project deliverables should evolve as the work progresses, in response to emerging user and business needs, as well as design and technical opportunities.
- However, the following must be delivered (iteratively) over the course of the project:
- • Creative, evidence-based front-end design solutions for digital service delivery. Solutions must be aligned with corporate design methods and standards.
- • Foundational design of artifacts on a variety of platforms and fidelities, such as prototypes and wireframes, design pattern libraries and components, graphic design style guides, and fully documented build-ready design specifications.
- • Plans for design research components.
- • Justifiable recommendations for design decisions to ensure alignment of project teams, program areas, and senior management.
- • Participation in agile project management processes and ceremonies such as sprint planning, sprint review, demos, and retrospectives.
- • Usability test plans and reports evaluating the effectiveness of current and future designs.
- • Analysis and recommendations on design accessibility to ensure compliance with applicable standards.
- The Province and the Contractor shall determine changes to Services and Materials as required. The Province and the Contractor will determine changes to Services and Materials through the Artifacts.
Location of Work
The Front-End Designer will primarily work remotely; however, the Front-End Designer is expected to attend meetings or work sessions often (i.e. quarterly) in Alberta on reasonable notice from the province. At the time of providing such notice, the province will advise of the expected duration of any such meetings or work sessions. However, time to travel and any associated expenses to and from Edmonton will be at no cost to the province.

**User/Market Research:**
+ Conduct research related to problem framing and solutioning

+ Maintain familiarity across the technical landscape to ensure compatibility with proposed feature sets
**User Experience Design and Management:**
+ Design workflows, interactions, and interfaces with varying levels of fidelity to communicate with peers and partners
+ Use customer insights derived from analytics and customer interactions to inform business and design decisions
+ Create XD deliverables for the products you support to advocate for users and the solutions that support their needs
+ Visualize and prototype intended solutions; meet and collaborate with users and development partners to validate conceptual designs
+ Deliver design documentation for consumption of the product teams
+ Review feature implementation, test plans, and documentation to ensure accuracy of desired application results
**Project Communication and Coordination:**
+ Participate in presentations and discussions internally & externally to drive alignment on proposed features and functionality
+ Partner with development teams to drive successful implementation of user experience design specifications
+ Participate in Design Reviews and model best practices for giving and receiving feedback
**Minimum Qualifications**
+ 5+ years of related professional experience in UX design
+ Demonstrated experience wireframing, prototyping, designing workflows and interactions using a range of tools and formats at multiple levels of fidelity
+ Up-to-date expertise in human-centered design best practices
+ Experience working collaboratively with global development teams and product managers to deliver usable and desired value to customers
+ Excellent ability to distill complex ideas, and large amounts of data and viewpoints, to their essence
+ Experience presenting designs to multiple audiences, including software development, product managers, research, & content
+ Demonstrated experience in research such as contextual interviews, ethnography, user testing
+ Technical understanding for APIs, SDKs, data models, data exchanges, connectors, and data management
+ Proficiency in Figma and ability to convey design ideas via sketches, storyboards, high-fidelity mockups, prototypes, or animations
+ Strong storytelling skills with experience working in a multidisciplinary environment to develop concepts that delight customers and deliver business results
+ Ability to implement strategic and conceptual thinking
+ High-quality design work that demonstrates deep design thinking
+ Strong information presentation - visual and written - skills
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Degree or certification in interaction design or related field
+ Experience designing for enterprise software, SaaS, cloud, and multi-channel experiences
+ Experience with Agile software design methods
+ Experience with Autodesk, comparable competitive products, or the industries we serve
+ Experience launching platform capabilities with tangible impact
