Your Moneris Career - The Opportunity

The Director SRE & DevOps develops the strategy and leads the direction of SRE and DevOps teams, ensuring the high availability and resiliency of Moneris' applications and platforms, whether on-premises or cloud-based, thereby supporting mission-critical operations 24/7. You will encompass overseeing the technical design and operations of platforms, and developing, maintaining, implementing tooling, processes, and practices that empower development teams. You will ensure, high-velocity delivery and automated deployment through the use of software provisioning, configuration management, source code management, and team collaboration applications. Additionally, the Director fosters a culture of reliability and resiliency by employing best practices to establish governance around SRE, DevOps Practices, tooling, and development methodologies. You will serve as the technical authority and subject matter expert for all SRE and DevOps practices at Moneris, guiding both the strategic direction and hands-on implementation of reliability engineering and automation frameworks.

Location: You will be based in our Toronto office, balancing in-office collaboration with remote flexibility.

Your Moneris Career - What you'll do

  • This position is responsible and owns for both the operational aspects and the strategic direction and roadmap for SRE, DevOps, and Observability teams.

  • Establishing governance frameworks for SRE and DevOps practices implies influencing how development and operations teams across the organization build and maintain systems.

  • Working in Agile environment, you will have overall accountability for supporting critical applications and platforms (both on-premises and cloud), ensuring end-to-end availability, performance, and lifecycle management, and guiding the team with code deployment, business-as-usual changes, support, security patches, and 24/7 system monitoring.

  • Establish governance and best practices for SRE and DevOps, including processes, Service Level Goals, Observability , tooling and development methodologies, to achieve key business objectives such as the reliability and resiliency of critical applications.

  • As a leader in SRE/DevOps, oversees team management, staff needs, performance evaluations, coaching, mentoring, and disciplinary actions.

  • The role includes developing and sponsoring business cases, which requires influencing both technical and non-technical stakeholders to support initiatives.

  • Overseeing the technical design and operations of platforms, as well as developing, maintaining, and implementing tooling, processes, and practices that support development teams.

  • Lead the design and implementation of DevOps automations, creating CI/CD pipelines, and developing necessary tools for all aspects of development, integration, build, test, and deployment processes.

  • Advocate for and advances modern, Agile software development practices and core DevOps behaviors across development and infrastructure

  • Work with Technology leadership and corporate partners to implement large-scale projects, operationalize technologies, develop technology roadmaps, and establish standards and procedures. This includes SVP/VP of development, QA, Product Owners, and Infrastructure

  • Maintain relationships and negotiate with external vendors and partners to acquire software and manage operational costs.

  • 10+ years of experience working in a leadership position, including managerial experience leading platform engineering and support (DevOps/SRE) teams

The Job

Key Responsibilities:
 

  • System Design and Implementation: designing, implementing, and maintaining complex systems that integrate hardware, software, and networks to meet organizational needs.

Requirements:
 
  • Engineering, Systems Science & Engineering or Computer Science degree or applicable discipline.
  • Three (3+) years of experience in systems engineering, integration, test and verification
  • Certified Scrum-Master, or equivalent experience that could lead to certification.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, think independently, and overcome technical challenges.
  • Proven ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Excellent English verbal/written communication skills required. Proficiency in French is an asset.
  • Candidates must meet the requirements of export control and security regulations, including the Canadian Controlled Goods Program and be able to obtain a Government of Canada Level 2 (Secret) Security Clearance.

  • Systems Engineering Principles: understanding and applying core systems engineering principles, including requirements analysis, systems design, integration, verification and validation.
  • Technical Proficiency: proficiency in relevant technologies and tools, such as operating systems, networking, software development environments.

About the Role
Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. + Act as a main technical point of contact for Wescam customers for book and build programs. This role will support assigned programs from pre-sale to post delivery.
+ Provide program engineering support to the Program Office for a variety of projects. Projects will vary from Engineering R&D, major system developments, government system sales, to OEM and commercial sales.
+ Manage multiple technical projects in a cross functional environment, with the ability to balance requirements of a variety of stakeholders, including internal and external parties.
+ Develop Concept of Operations, system level requirements specification and interface documentation to support customer missions.
+ Execute the technical perspective of the contracts. Define system configuration, and develop equipment and data deliverable list.
+ Lead and collaborate with other engineering teams to create deliverables to meet contractual requirements.

**Job Summary**
We are seeking an experienced Intermediate Systems Engineer to join our team specializing in Naval Communications Systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, integration, testing, and maintenance of advanced communication systems for naval vessels. This role requires a strong understanding of both the technical and operational aspects of naval communications.
**As an Intermediate Systems Engineer, your main responsibilities will include (but not limited to):**
**Design and Development:**
+ Design and develop communication systems for naval applications.

**What you require to be successful in the role:**
**Education:**
+ Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, or a related field.
**Experience:**
+ 3-5 years of experience in designing and developing communication systems, preferably within a naval or defense environment.
+ Hands-on experience with RF, digital, and networking technologies used in naval communication systems.
**Technical Skills:**
+ Proficiency in systems engineering practices, including requirements analysis, design, integration, and testing.
+ Familiarity with Requirements Management using DOORS
+ Familiarity with Confluence and JIRA
+ Familiarity with naval communication systems and protocols.
+ Experience with simulation and modeling tools.
+ Knowledge of cybersecurity principles as they relate to communication systems.

**Education and Experience**
+ Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering.
+ Licensed Professional Engineer in a Canadian province and eligible for licensure in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
+ Minimum of 10 years of experience in Electrical Engineering & Design.
