Overview
Are you a professional in the field of mental health with experience supporting people in psychological distress? We have opportunities for Mental Health Specialists to provide supportive interventions to injured workers in their recovery and return to work.
You'll work in partnership with WorkSafeBC clients in distress, with internal staff, and with external stakeholders to identify and respond to risk situations. You'll play an integral role in providing support to injured workers and their families during periods of psychological distress, collaborate with community mental health resources and service providers, and serve as a resource to claims management teams throughout the province.

What you'll do
- Receive and review WorkSafeBC suicide risk reports, investigate, assess, and then prepare a Mental Health Service Plan that identifies risks, provides supports, and makes recommendations to WorkSafeBC staff regarding how to best communicate with the vulnerable worker
- Support, and in some cases communicate appellate body claims decisions to vulnerable workers, including traumatized clients and workers at risk for suicide
- Share your experience with internal colleagues and claims management staff to empower/encourage/mentor them to effectively manage complex mental health issues
- Communicate and uphold the mandate of WorkSafeBC to manage the risk of suicide in the most supportive way to clients, their families, external stakeholders, and WorkSafeBC staff
- Build partnerships and networks with clients at risk of suicide and their families, internal staff, and other stakeholders to establish positive long-term relationships
- Deliver presentations on suicide risk identification and response to WorkSafeBC staff

- Demonstrate understanding of current mental health issues and programs as they relate to depression, chronic pain, and suicidality
- Facilitate understanding, diffuse hostility, resolve conflict, and provide critical incident support to clients, while being sensitive to their needs
- Prepare, present, and explain information, often controversial in nature, both orally and in writing, using clear and concise language to individuals from diverse backgrounds and varying levels of understanding
- Work as a part of a team whose focus is on consulting, guiding, and motivating clients, often who have physical and mental health conditions, to achieve treatment goals
Your background and experience
- A master's degree in a related discipline such as social sciences, social work, clinical/forensic/counselling psychology, or a bachelor's degree in social work
- Experience that demonstrates a broad knowledge of mental health and crisis intervention — four years of directly related experience with a master's degree or six years of directly related experience with a bachelor's degree
- Registration or eligible to register with a professional college or regulatory body is required (e.g., RSW, RCC, CCC)
- A valid B.C. driver's license

This program is designed to be neighbourhood based and works as an interdisciplincary team to encourage collaboration and partnerships with local community services, including family physicians and other care providers.
As a Mental Health Nurse with VCH, you will:
- Provide individualized direct nursing care and brokerage services to a wide range of clients with severe and persistent mental illness, concurrent disorders and/or dementia and be responsible for the full range of clinical practice and the client-centred rehabilitation program by working independently and as a member of a team.
- Enhance the quality of life of the client/family.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the successful candidate will provide strategic leadership by developing and implementing comprehensive housing and homelessness strategies that align with best practices and community needs. They will oversee diverse housing programs, ensure effective service delivery through policy development and evaluation, and advise senior leadership on emerging trends. This role also involves building robust partnerships, advocating for supportive policies, managing multi-million-dollar budgets and contracts, and leading funding initiatives. Additionally, the Director will supervise staff, foster an inclusive workplace culture, drive policy development and research, lead crisis and emergency housing responses, and serve as a public spokesperson when needed.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree in Social Work, Public Administration, Housing Policy, Urban Planning, Indigenous Studies, or a related field. Additional training in trauma-informed care, harm reduction, project management, or Indigenous cultural safety is considered an asset.
They will bring 7–10 years of leadership experience in housing, homelessness, or social services, with proven expertise in managing large budgets, contracts, and funding agreements. The candidate should have extensive experience supporting individuals facing homelessness, mental health challenges, substance use, and systemic oppression, and possess strong knowledge of Housing First, Harm Reduction, and Trauma-Informed Care models.
Additionally, they will demonstrate strong skills in policy development, strategic planning, program implementation, and building partnerships with Indigenous communities, housing providers, government agencies, and equity-deserving groups such as Indigenous peoples, LGBTQ2S+, and racialized populations.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Related experience in areas of vocational rehabilitation, musculo-skeletal, Active Rehab/Exercise Therapy
- Occupational Therapist registered with the College of Health and Care Professionals of of British Columbia and ideally at least 2 years of clinical experience.

Summary:
The Occupational Therapist provides services to help children and students to achieve their highest possible level of independent functioning within the school, home and community. The therapist is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating programs to address the fine motor, perceptual motor, sensory, adaptive, postural, and self-care skills of children with disabilities and their families in order to optimize development.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assesses and evaluates childrens physical abilities using standardized assessment tools and non-standardized assessment including observation, interview, and review of medical and developmental reports.
- Plans and develop goals for occupational therapy services in consultation with the family and based on the assessment results and the priorities of the family.
- Provide direct therapy services to individual and groups of children and their families to implement occupational therapy program based on established goals.
- Provide instruction, guidance and advice to families, childcare programs and other service providers on implementation of components of the occupational therapy program.
- Recommend adaptive equipment and provide specialized therapy services as needed to meet the child therapeutic needs. Refer families to other community services and professionals as needed.
- Liaise with school teams, educators, community service providers and other professionals to ensure coordinated and consistent therapies and services. Participates in interdisciplinary team and family assessment, planning, direct services, and transition planning related to individual child and family services.
- Maintain related records and produces reports as required.
- Provide consultative and education services to families, caregivers, childcare providers, other service providers and the public.
- Maintain current knowledge on literature and research in the field. Provides up to date best practice information.
Education and Experience
- Masters degree in occupational therapy with pediatric training; registration with the College of Occupational Therapists.
- A minimum of two (2) years pediatric clinical experience, with some experience in a community-based program early intervention program and supporting school age children.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- The Occupational Therapist understands and can work effectively with children and their families to provide therapy and consultation services.
- They will have demonstrated strong leadership, instructional, written, and oral skills, and will be a committed team member.
