  • Adjust frames to achieve optimal comfort and vision for customers.

Training & Development:

Product:

  • Possess solid product knowledge, including frames, accessories, contact lenses, and lens types.
  • Support store inventory counts and maintain organized backstock.

Skills, Attributes and Experience Required:

  • You have your Opticians License in the province of employment and you are in good standing with the governing college.
  • You have at least 2 years experience in an optical store or lab with optical dispensing experience.

Your Contribution to NRSI
NRSI is looking for a locally-situated, motivated and independent individuals to conduct field monitoring activities, primarily conducting wildlife mortality searches at operating wind and/or solar energy facilities near Oyen, Alberta.  This position provides an opportunity to gain experience in visual bird and bat identification, to implement scientific methods, and to collect and analyze data with a high attention to detail. The primary duties and responsibilities for this role include:

  • Taking well-organized and detailed field notes,
  • Communicating frequently with project managers, other field staff, and clients,
  • Conducting searches according to a strict schedule, and safely collecting and handling bird and bat carcasses,
  • Carcass searches around wind turbines or around solar panels and fence lines, and walking transects in order to find bird and bat mortalities.  Once found, data on the specific mortalities is collected with high attention to detail, and all carcasses are stored by NRSI. 
  • Trials to determine carcass removal rate by scavengers or other means, by placing carcasses on the ground at the facility, and monitoring over time;
  • Trials to determine how many of the carcasses are found by the searcher; and
  • Data entry and analysis, including sending email summaries and syncing collected field data each day.
  • Occasional assistance with other field- or office-related tasks.
Your Education:
  • A post-secondary degree or diploma, or high school diploma. 
Key Job Requirements:
  • Willing and able to work under inclement weather, in a variety of environmental and vegetation conditions, for long hours, and occasionally on holidays or weekends.
  • Physically fit in order to walk for several hours each day in potentially challenging terrain.
  • Demonstrated interest in wildlife and the environment, including the desire to pursue a career in this field.
  • A good work ethic and positive attitude, dependability, flexibility, and excellent communication.
  • Ability to work independently on a regular basis.
  • Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail, including the maintenance of well-organized and detailed field notes.
  • A valid driver's license and over 18 years old in order to drive a rental vehicle.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR Certification.
Assets:
  • Experience in the identification of birds and/or bats by sight.
  • Experience conducting wildlife surveys, soil assessments, vegetation inventories, or delineating vegetation communities using standard survey protocols.
  • A reliable personal vehicle insured for work purposes, with at least $2 million in liability insurance (authorized mileage will be reimbursed).

As such, LaPrairie Works is in search for applications to fill the role ofEquipment Operatorfor Alberta Oyen (CMA 519) - Highway Maintenance Operations.

The selected candidates will be hired should LaPrairie Works be successful in procuring the contract for this area.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure safe work operations and full compliance to operating procedures
  • Receive directions from site foreman regarding day to day operations and tasks
  • Responsible for and/or assists in fueling and filling all the fluids in the equipment to the right level. Quantity of fuel and fluids must be written and reported in the inspection log.
  • Assists in the maintenance works of the equipment.
  • Maintain tidiness around site and equipment.

Required Skills:

  • Experience in equipment operations including tractor-trailers, snowplow trucks with sanders, maintenance graders, and/or other highway maintenance / construction equipment.
  • Experience and ability to perform various highway maintenance activities including highway maintenance labour work, road and bridge maintenance, and other construction activities.
  • A valid Class 1 or 3 drivers license.
  • Ability to work day and night shifts.
  • Demonstrated initiative with solid HSE fundamentals and a sound work ethic.
