Detailed Overview: In accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice and the Mission and Values of Fraser Health, and working collaboratively and in partnership with the interprofessional care team in the provision of person-centered and recovery oriented care the Psychiatric Liaison Nurse performs intake assessment, offers crisis intervention, and provides input into the care of psychiatric and concurrent disordered patients in the Emergency Department. Provides input into the care of psychiatric patients awaiting transfer for further assessment or inpatient admission. Assists with ensuring effective patient flow for assessed patients through collaboration with Emergency Department nurses, other emergency service providers, the interprofessional community mental health and substance use team and other community service providers. Assists in adapting care plans to address psychiatric needs, with final dispositions authorized by the Emergency Room physicians or consulting Psychiatrist. The Psychiatric Liaison Nurse works in close association with interprofessional community mental health team, agencies and other community service providers. May provide short term follow-up treatment and case management services at the Mental Health Centre for adults treated in the Emergency Department. Responsibilities:
Screens psychiatric referrals from a variety of internal and external sources, gathers background information and determines service priorities. Works with Emergency Department staff in the identification of potential psychiatric referrals.
Performs psychosocial assessments and collects collateral related to patients' primary support group, social environment, occupation, education, housing, finance, health service access, and legal problems. Completes emergency psychiatry patient assessments for patients triaged to psychiatry.
Develops care plans with final dispositions authorized by the Emergency Room Physician or consulting psychiatrist and provides general and crisis counselling to patients and their families including short term crisis follow-up in accordance with approved treatment plans.
May provide short-term follow-up treatment and case management services at the Mental Health Centre for adults treated in the Emergency Department.
Communicates and consults with Coordinators and other members of the interprofessional mental health and substance use team on patient care issues, resources and discharge planning; organizes and participates in interprofessional conferences; engages patients and their family in plan of care and refers patients to other services as required.
Provides patient advocacy services with other agencies, services and service providers.
Documents assessments, care plan, observations, interventions, patient/family responses, outcomes/evaluations, and referrals according to practice standards and Fraser Health procedures.
Completes and maintains electronic Psychiatric Liaison Contact Sheets before the end of each shift or within the designated and hours of work.
Participates in patient care conferences of admitted psychiatric patients as required to ensure appropriate discharge planning and linkages to appropriate community mental health services.
Liaises with appropriate departments and professionals and facilitates transition to aftercare by sharing emergency treatment outcomes and care plans with Mental Health & Substance Use staff. Acts as patient advocate by assisting patients and their family members to access appropriate community resources.
Provides guidance to hospital staff involved in caring for psychiatric patients and provides input for team members actively involved in violence de-escalation, suicide prevention, seclusion, and restraint practices. Ensures safe patient management and adherence to restraint policies and procedures.
Participates in quality improvement activities by identifying patient care issues, collecting data, and identifying needs and recommendations for corrective action and changes to practices, procedures or protocols.
Provides input to the Managers regarding policies, procedures, and operational requirements by observing service needs and providing spoken or written suggestions that address patient and family needs and promote effective use of resources.
Identifies own learning needs/goals, reviews these with the Manager or designate and engages in a variety of activities to meet these needs/goals.
Maintains a safe environment for patients, families and staff by adhering to established safety and emergency practices and procedures.
Participates in the orientation and ongoing education of nursing staff and students by providing information and acting as a preceptor or mentor as appropriate. Identifies self-learning needs and attends educational programs to maintain and enhance clinical competency.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Education and Experience
Graduation from an approved school of Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing. Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). One (1) year recent related experience in acute or community mental health and substance use setting or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Skills and Abilities
Ability to complete initial and ongoing mental health and substance use patient assessment and provide nursing care through appropriate/prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions including crisis intervention.
Knowledge of mental illness and substance use treatment.
Knowledge of psychopharmacology (indications and side-effects).
Counselling and group facilitation skills.
Knowledge of legislation and government policies and procedures that relate to mental health and substance use practices.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with patients/families/care givers, the public, medical staff and members of the interprofessional care team.

Performs a variety of health care interventions utilizing nursing skills and knowledge of medical equipment specific to Medical Imaging including diagnostic and interventional procedures such as thrombolysis, embolizations, angioplasties and biliary and urological interventional procedures. Assists with procedural sedation, general anesthesia (at sites where required) and airway management. Monitors patient status and maintains critical care safety protocols for patients as required.
Establishes therapeutic relationships with patients and/or families during pre-procedure preparation and provides emotional support to patients pre, peri and post-procedure. Verifies patient identity, checks consent, obtains information about patient essential to procedure, and provides explanations and reassurances to patients and their families in response to questions/concerns. Advocates for and facilitates informed choices. Teaches patients/families about specific procedure and post-procedure care. Demonstrates self/home care skills.
Anticipates, prepares for, and responds to unexpected critical situations during and/or post-procedures such as cardiac arrest by initiating cardiopulmonary resuscitation and/or administering appropriate medication.
Organizes priorities in response to constantly fluctuating workload volumes and patient treatment requirements in consultation with team members. Assesses patient for discharge in accordance with established discharge criteria.
Consults with, and collaborates with peers and other caregivers in the identification and resolution of patient/family care issues, ethical dilemmas, and coordination and integration of care. Acts as patient advocate protecting and promoting the patient's right to autonomy, respect, privacy, dignity, and access to information.
Documents patient/family perspectives, nursing observations and activities that support patient/family priorities. Maintains complete and accurate computerized and paper records through methods such as inputting data and documentation in accordance with established procedures and policies.
Uses appropriate supplies and equipment for patient care in accordance with departmental standards regarding cost effectiveness, availability, and safe care requirements. Maintains patient-monitoring equipment such as resuscitation cart and oximeter by documenting equipment checks, problem-solving equipment malfunctions with technical staff, identifying equipment requiring replacement or refurbishing, and making recommendations to ensure equipment is kept in operative condition. Responds to incidents such as missing patients, injuries to staff or visitors, Code Blue/White emergencies, hazardous spills, minor spills, fire and aggressive/disruptive behaviour to ensure medical and other support is accessed in a timely manner; informs designated staff of occurrences, and completes Incident Reports in accordance with established procedures and policies.
Participates in unit/team/program activities required to enhance and optimize the delivery of care and to facilitate evidence-based nursing practice. Promotes quality management principles for unit/team/program operations, identifies processes/procedures that require improvement, and drafts/revises guidelines, policies and procedures for review. Identifies and reports unsafe practice/professional conduct in accordance with professional standards and organizational policies.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience
Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
Completion of a recognized high acuity specialty nursing certificate and one (1) year of recent related interventional medical imaging experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.

Detailed Overview:Reporting to the Supervisor, Radiological Technology and the Site Coordinator, Medical Imaging, the Radiological Technologist, practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice as well as utilizing a client and family centered care model and the vision and values of the department within Fraser Health (FH).
The Radiological Technologist performs diagnostic radiographic/fluoroscopic and medical imaging procedures/techniques and related duties, observing safe radiation protection practices. Duties include receiving and completing requisitions, entering relevant data into the Radiology Information System (RIS), preparing patients for examination, operating radiographic and computerized imaging equipment including processing radiographs and archiving of acquired data, monitoring patient during procedures, monitoring equipment performance and maintaining cleanliness of examination rooms.
Responsibilities:
* Performs all general duty radiographic/fluoroscopic procedures consistent with established standards, procedures, radiation protection practices and protocols. Performs procedures working with radiologists, physicians and other health care professionals.
* Performs requested examinations observing departmental standards, routines and radiation protection practices during procedure by operating radiographic and computerized imaging equipment.
* Completes procedures using appropriate equipment, labels permanent records, maintains and updates records in RIS/PACS and checks resultant images for technical quality. Refers problems in image quality to the supervisor. Stores digital images using appropriate equipment.
* Explains procedures and gives instructions to patients/clients. Answers questions that may arise.
* Ensures relevant clinical data is collected for the procedures requested by providing documentation of individualized patient care and recording history and clinical information. Maintains and updates records in database accordingly.
* Prepares contrast agents required for examinations by methods such as filling syringes and mixing barium solutions as required. Detailed Overview:Reporting to the Supervisor, Radiological Technology and the Site Coordinator, Medical Imaging, the Radiological Technologist, practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice as well as utilizing a client and family centered care model and the vision and values of the department within Fraser Health (FH).
The Radiological Technologist performs diagnostic radiographic/fluoroscopic and medical imaging procedures/techniques and related duties, observing safe radiation protection practices. Duties include receiving and completing requisitions, entering relevant data into the Radiology Information System (RIS), preparing patients for examination, operating radiographic and computerized imaging equipment including processing radiographs and archiving of acquired data, monitoring patient during procedures, monitoring equipment performance and maintaining cleanliness of examination rooms.
Responsibilities:
* Performs all general duty radiographic/fluoroscopic procedures consistent with established standards, procedures, radiation protection practices and protocols. Performs procedures working with radiologists, physicians and other health care professionals.
* Performs requested examinations observing departmental standards, routines and radiation protection practices during procedure by operating radiographic and computerized imaging equipment.
* Completes procedures using appropriate equipment, labels permanent records, maintains and updates records in RIS/PACS and checks resultant images for technical quality. Refers problems in image quality to the supervisor. Stores digital images using appropriate equipment.
* Explains procedures and gives instructions to patients/clients. Answers questions that may arise.
* Ensures relevant clinical data is collected for the procedures requested by providing documentation of individualized patient care and recording history and clinical information. Maintains and updates records in database accordingly.
* Prepares contrast agents required for examinations by methods such as filling syringes and mixing barium solutions as required. Prepares tray set-up for procedures, disposes items after the procedure according to hospital policy and cleans instruments for return to Medical Device Reprocessing Department.
* Monitors patient care and safety by ensuring procedures adhere to department standards and policies.
* Provides input into quality improvement and risk management procedures and processes.
* Cleans and tests equipment for status of imaging, viewing, processing and image recording; performs quality control tests and minor adjustments and/or arranges for necessary repairs; cleans technical area and maintains supplies.
* Performs a variety of clerical duties including those related to patient demographics, histories and data entry.
* Participates in the instruction of employees and/or students by assisting with departmental orientations, in-service presentations, demonstrating procedures and answering questions.
* Participates in approved research and special projects in collaboration with supervisor and other health care professionals.
* Participates in the departmental Continuous Quality Improvement/LEAN programs by using established monitoring and auditing methodologies to perform quality assurance checks such as patient/physician satisfaction or booking protocols.
* Carries out responsibilities in accordance with health and safety requirements. Immediately reports unsafe situations by notifying supervisor or other appropriate personnel.

* Demonstrated knowledge and practice of safe work procedures with diagnostic radiographic and medical imaging equipment.
* Demonstrated ability to perform radiographic examinations in compliance with departmental standards.
* Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based practice related to designated modality.
* Demonstrated knowledge of organization policies, procedures and standards of care, including practice of safe work procedures with modality equipment.
* Demonstrated knowledge of research process and methodology.
* Demonstrated knowledge of PACS/Radiology Information Systems, i.e. digital imaging, image archiving and retrieval.
* Demonstrated ability to communicate (orally and in writing) and deal effectively with clients and their families, co-workers, physicians, other health care staff and staff of external agencies.
* Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment.
