The Role


As a fish processing plant worker, your duties include, but are not limited to:


Cutting, cleaning, trimming, filleting, and scaling fish.


Inspecting fish fillets to determine the optimal number and size of fillet sections. Install and operate machinery to clean, cut, process, and package fresh fish products in accordance with our safety and quality operating procedures.

Inspect products and packaging to ensure quality and compliance with company standards, making any necessary adjustments.

Inspect products to ensure quality standards are met.

Pack or wrap fish for shipping.

Maintain a clean work area.

*This position requires standing for extended periods and the use of hand tools, including knives and tongs.

The Role

As a result of continued growth, we are seeking a Health & Safety Specialist in our Hermitage and St. Albans, NL locations. This position will report directly to the Director of Health & Safety. The successful candidate will have the drive, determination, and a self-disciplined approach to achieving results that meet the established criteria.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with provincial Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations.
  • Ensure employee compliance with company H&S Programs, policies and procedures.
  • Conduct risk assessments, audits, and inspections across hatcheries, processing facilities, and marine sites.
  • Lead incident investigations, ensuring timely reporting and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate safety into operational planning and decision-making.
  • Assist management in developing practices for integrating health and safety into all business operations.
  • Assist managers in developing safe work practices and implementing industry best practices and standards.

Qualifications

  • 3 – 5 years’ experience working in the Health & Safety field.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian Health & Safety legislation and industry best practices.
  • Proven experience in incident investigation, hazard identification, and risk mitigation.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and comfortable handling conflict.
  • Ability to analyze problems and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Experience in a marine environment an asset.
  • Experience in a food processing plant an asset.
  • Health & Safety certificate and/or diploma an asset.
  • Ability to travel within the province of Newfoundland when required, potentially on short notice.
