Position Overview
The Mgr Accounting leads the accounting team and is responsible for the monthly/quarterly close process and all deliverables associated with it. This includes, but is not limited to account reconciliations, journal entry review, cost allocations, and account analysis all to ensure accurate financial information in accordance with US GAAP. Key Job Responsibilities
Organizational Leadership

We are hiring a Manager, Accounting who will be a key leader within our Accounting & Finance team. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Controller Group, the Manager will play an integral role in ensuring that all accounting and finance operations run smoothly. In this role, you will be responsible for leading various accounting processes, managing internal controls, as well as optimizing and improving processes. You will dive into analytical projects where you will translate data into insights to help make real-time business decisions.

What you'll do:

  • Take full ownership of month-end processes
  • Prepare and review account reconciliations
  • Review journal entries and month-end accruals
  • Provide monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial analysis
  • Research accounting issues for treatment under IFRS and with compliance to generally accepted accounting principles
  • Ensure conformity with internal accounting policies and business processes, as well as compliance with established internal controls (including approval requirements) with a keen eye toward cost control and accuracy
  • Investigate and implement new technologies and reporting systems to improve efficiency and accuracy of accounting functions and ensure regular maintenance of internal database and records
  • Assist with preparation of year end audits and tax filings
  • Provide training and mentorship to team members
  • Complete other ad-hoc analysis and projects as required

Who you are:
  • 3-5 years' experience in a finance/controller department role with account reconciliation and accounting experience (experience in public accounting is a plus!)
  • Successful completion of a CPA designation is required
  • Extremely analytical mindset with an investigative approach to situations
  • Advanced in MS Excel and a good understanding of MS Office Suite
  • Knowledge of Power BI Service or other business analytics tools
  • Ability to carry out assigned projects to completion with minimal supervision
  • Self-starter with a strong sense of personal accountability and ownership in their work
  • Proven ability to effectively manage and prioritize work flow
  • High standards of ethics and confidentiality to handle sensitive information
  • Ability to exercise good judgement, show initiative, and be proactive
  • Experience leading/mentoring a small team considered an asset

As our Accounting Manager, your responsibilities will include :

Accounting Operations

  • Supervise General Accounting and General Ledger functions.
  • Ensure timely month-end closings and GL reconciliations.
  • Prepare financial statements and account analysis.

Invoice & Payment Processing

  • Supervise AP staff and delegate tasks effectively.
  • Oversee weekly payment runs, including EFT, cheques, bills, and wire transfers.
  • Monitor AP aging and resolve payment issues with vendors.

Compliance & Controls

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, sales tax, and internal policies.
  • Coordinate audits and maintain documentation for CRA and external auditors.
  • Implement internal controls to safeguard assets and prevent fraud.

Team Leadership

  • Lead and mentor accounting and accounts payable staff.
  • Provide training and performance feedback.
  • Coordinate with AP, AR, payroll, project and procurement teams to ensure data integrity.

Our ideal candidate has:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Canadian CPA preferred).
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, construction industry experience a plus.
  • Strong understanding of accounting software, experience with Dynamics 365 is a plus.
  • Experience with multi-project environments and high-volume AP.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to conduct complex and comprehensive financial analysis, assessment and evaluation of financial activities and to identify potentially contentious issues that expose PG to risk and recommend appropriate options.
  • Leadership and influencing skills to encourage senior management, colleagues, clients and vendors of the need to adhere to financial/cost control processes.
  • Developed governance and accountability, quality management systems and risk mitigation strategies to use a risk assessment lens to identify and address risks, issues and accounting implications for the project baseline.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills to develop strong, cooperative relationships with operational management and other support service groups.
