Sr. Actuarial Analyst
This role takes ownership of end-to-end actuarial projects, from building pricing and reserving models to implementing predictive analytics. Work independently and collaboratively with the actuarial team to deliver impactful solutions on time. Reporting to the Actuarial Manager, this role also supports junior analysts and partners with other senior team members to drive results.
What will you do?
Data Literacy
- The Senior Actuarial Analyst is responsible for understanding what the data means, and possesses the ability to "clean" it as required with minimal assistance.
Model Building
- The Senior Actuarial Analyst is responsible for building statistical models for many problems and understands the"bigger picture". Will work with others to learn and improve on their models.
Implementation Support
- The Senior Actuarial Analyst can assist with implementation requirements such as excel rater creation or maintenance, renewal lists, impact studies, etc. as required without assistance.
Personal Development
- The Senior Actuarial Analyst will make serious attempts at progressing through the CAS exams.The Senior Actuarial Analyst will also perform other, project-specific required research.
Coaching
- The Senior Actuarial Analyst will provide technical coaching and mentoring to teammates as required
What will you need to succeed in this role?
- Undergraduate degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics or Statistics. ACAS designation (5-7 CAS exams or equivalent)
- 3-5 years of experience at another P&C insurance company or at a life insurance company
- 3-5 years of experience in a Data Science role
- Analytical Skills: Strong data management skills
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with internal and external stakeholders. Able to explain complicated concept to non-technical audience /interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in actuarial software

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines
~ Provides business partners and functional subject matter experts actuarial guidance and business insights related to profitability. Acts as account manager on key broker/client engagements.
Builds strong relationships with team members, peers, business partners and leaders across multiple functions in order to ensure optimal implementation of business strategies aligned with actuarial insights and analytics.
Collaborates with and influences senior leadership in the development and implementation of pricing strategy for the Canadian Branch . Drives innovation in products through thought leadership.
Participates with senior leadership in the development and implementation of actuarial policies, business strategies and goals, regularly evaluating performance against goals, and holding self and team accountable for achieving desired results.
Oversees and/or executes onthe production of highly technical actuarial analyses and reports to communicate to other analytical staff and to senior management.
Stays up to date in actuarial expertise, provincial/federal regulations and industry trends and development in order to lead decisions related to line of business.
Ensures team is maintaining clear documentation of methods.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Senior level knowledge of actuarial principles, practices and procedures and industry issues as they relate to the organization.
