**Job Summary**
This position is responsible for performing a variety of technical and supportive patient care tasks to assist attending anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists in performing anesthetic procedures.
**Essential Functions**
+ Prepare, supply and equip the operating room to meet anesthesiologist and surgery room requirements for surgical procedures. This includes assisting in room setup and room turnover, stocking supplies and obtaining supplies and equipment as directed.
+ Clean machines, monitors, and equipment following established infection control procedures.
+ Assist in patient care/patient monitoring as directed by RN or Anesthesiologist.
+ May assist with patient laboratory tests and results.
+ Coordinate supply inventory for Anesthesia Department.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
**Qualifications**
**Education**
+ Associate Degree Preferred: Anesthesia Technology.
**Experience**
+ Minimum of 1 year Preferred: operating room experience as a CNA, Surgical Services Assistant, or Surgical Instrument Tech
+ Preferred: Anesthesia Technician, basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and medical terminology
+ Required: Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient's needs
**Credentials**
+ Required Upon Hire: Basic Life Support
+ Preferred: Certified Nurse Assistant - Washington
+ Preferred: Certified Anesthesia Technologist

Groves Memorial Community Hospital is offering FP-Anesthesia locum and part-time positions starting July 2025, although more casual locum opportunities can be available earlier. The new 55-bed hospital is situated between Elora and Fergus, two charming riverside communities known for its unique 19thcentury limestone architecture, filled with unique boutiques, eateries, and galleries.

The FP-A scope of practice includes General Surgery, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Orthopedics, ENT, Dental (Pediatric), Endoscopy, Labour & Delivery and on call coverage at Groves. Call coverage is currently 1 in 6. There is also an opportunity to provide anesthesia in Mount Forest and Palmerston, which includes General Surgery, Gynecology, Dental, Orthopedics, ENT, and Urology. Additional opportunities exist for involvement in Anesthesia Pre-op Clinic, Block Room, and PICC insertions as well as the potential to combine the FP-A position with ER, Hospitalist or Family Medicine.

Overview and Purpose of the Role

Reporting directly to the Director Clinics, Perioperative and Procedures this role will participate in the care of patients undergoing general, regional or local anesthetic or procedural sedation under the direct supervision and/or immediate availability of the Anesthesiologist.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide Anesthesia Assistant support to all Operating and Procedure rooms and related services where anesthesia may be involved at Schroder Ambulatory Centre.
  • Participates in the anesthetic care of surgical patients undergoing general, regional or local anesthesia or procedural sedation
  • Under the direction and supervision of the responsible Anesthesiologist, performs assessments, monitor and initiate interventions required to maintain anesthesia, hemodynamic stability and hemostasis
  • Perform clinical and technical duties in accordance to professional standards, Centre policies, medical directives and physician orders.
  • Engage in critical thinking to assess patient's health status and identify issues in a timely manner to optimize care delivery.
  • Actively participate within the interdisciplinary health care team as a reflective practitioner.
  • Utilize evidence-based practice as a base in the promotion of professional accountability.
  • Provide safe, competent and ethical anesthesia care
  • Maintain clinical competence and knowledge base through continued education and lifelong learning.
  • Perform additional duties and undertake special projects as assigned.

Corporate Responsibilities:

  • Participate in all mandatory training requirements and work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, Schroeder Ambulatory Centre Policies and Procedures, as well as established industry guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited Anesthesia Assistant Basic and Advanced Education program, including hands-on practicum in an affiliated health care center
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Health Sciences
  • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) or College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (CRTO)
  • Previous experience in a peri-operative environment (asset)
  • Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Demonstrated experience with advanced airway management, including fiberoptic intubations and other difficult airway adjuncts
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Proof of immunizations and TB screening records

**Registered Veterinary Technician, RVT**
**Location: Calgary, AB**
**Department: Anesthesia**

**Western Veterinary Specialist & Emergency Centre** is welcoming a full-time **RVT** for our **Anesthesia** team.
This position offers the opportunity to work with top board-certified specialists and learn about cutting-edge veterinary medicine. We are looking for an enthusiastic, team-oriented, motivated individual who will be inspired to work with a highly varied, exciting and unique caseload. Our experienced technicians are prepared to support you as you train and adapt to specialty practice.
You will have the opportunity to be involved in specialist-level procedures using state-of-the-art equipment and to develop your skills in veterinary anesthesia. Our success lies in our willingness to help each other achieve great patient outcomes; however, with specialty medicine comes the unpredictability of working in a setting where the day's schedule can change at a moment's notice.
**Schedule:** Anesthesia technicians work four weekdays per week and are on call one day/evening per week.
**Qualifications:**
+ Registered veterinary technologist in Alberta
+ Preference given for a minimum of two years of experience as an RVT, ideally in an emergency or referral setting
+ Experience in providing general anesthesia in dogs and cats (varying ages and breeds) for surgical, dental or endoscopic procedures
+ Experience using common monitoring equipment and the strengths and limitations of each type of monitoring (e.g. pulse oximetry, electrocardiography, capnography, blood pressure monitoring).
+ Experience working with commonly used sedation, induction, inhalant and injectable anesthetic and analgesic medications, including indications and contraindications of each.
+ Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)
+ Thorough working knowledge of aseptic technique as it relates to patient preparation and preparation of the operating theatre
+ Exceptional time-management skills, critical thinking and efficiency in a fast-paced environment
+ Consistently safe and effective patient handling skills
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills
+ Commitment to continuing education in anesthesia and analgesia, preferably with prior examples.
+ Appreciation of own strengths and limitations, willingness to accept direction and feedback from more experienced RVTs and veterinarians.
**Responsibilities**
+ Work in a busy, fast-paced, specialty hospital environment, planning, organizing and managing the daily flow of services.
+ Collaborate and communicate effectively with veterinary specialists, interns, RVTs and technician assistants to provide the very best in anesthetic care for patients.
+ Assist surgery technicians with patient handling, patient preparation and recovery.
+ Participate in a rotating after-hours on-call schedule to provide general anesthesia to patients requiring urgent or emergency procedures during nights and weekends.
+ Prepare the anesthetic equipment and operating theatres for surgery.
+ Perform pre-anesthetic patient evaluations and determine ASA score for each patient. Assist in obtaining pre-operative diagnostics, e.g. radiographs, bloodwork, CT scan.
+ Provide analgesia, sedation, general anesthesia and local/regional nerve blocks to patients undergoing surgical, endoscopic, imaging or biopsy procedures.
+ Monitor patients under sedation or general anesthesia and make adjustments to protocols as necessary to ensure patient comfort and safety.
+ Under the direction of specialist veterinarians, develop and implement post-operative care and analgesia plans and implement these within the intensive care unit. Supervise anesthetic recovery and transfer case notes to ICU RVTs.
+ Scrub in to surgical procedures or assist in endoscopic procedures with specialist veterinarians.
+ Assist in preparing laboratory samples to be shipped for testing to external laboratories.
+ Maintain meticulous records of anesthetic monitoring, anesthetic and controlled drugs.
+ Supervise and teach technician assistants and technician practicum students.
