The Role

• Building Ownership and Engineering Analysis: Analize technical aspects of projects from initiation to completion, including collecting reverse engineering data, reviewing specifications, and generating concept designs and models.
• Design and Validation: Contribute to the creation of detailed designs, conduct product trials, and provide performance feedback on both new and existing products.
• On-site Presence: Be prepared for significant travel (up to 75%) to various mine sites in the Edmonton or Fort McMurray, and USA locations to assist with new installations and technical support.
• Documentation and Reporting: Generate reports for site visits, create product case studies, and assist with technical presentations for internal and external stakeholders.

Key Criteria

• Technical Skills: Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD 2D and 3D modeling, NX). Experience with Teamcenter or similar Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems is highly desirable.
• Industry Experience working within a heavy manufacturing, foundry, or mining environment.
• Customer Focus: Ability to understand customer needs and provide effective, innovative solutions.
• Travel Flexibility: Willingness and ability to travel up to 75% to various mine sites.
• Engineering Knowledge: A strong understanding of engineering documents, specifications, and a clear grasp of manufacturing processes and techniques.
• Primarily going to be focused on supporting the Electric Rope Shovels and Hydraulic Excavators product lines, Crawler Systems, Buckets, and GET.

ABOUT YOU:

We are looking for a smart, articulate Application Engineer capable of designing Gas Detection systems for condo towers, arenas, breweries, and everything in between. Your job will be to review engineering plans, understand the application, design systems, create drawings & submittal packages, and then support the customer through installation. Dont worry if youre not familiar with Gas Detection; just bring your engineering mindset and desire to learn and we will get you trained up.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Review plans & project specifications received from customers

• DesignGas Detection systems for a wide variety of applications & prepare quotes for customers

• Create project drawings quotes & submittals packages for dealers and engineers

• Provide post-sale technical & installation support for projects you design

• Deliver technical training and education to dealers, technicians, and engineers

• Share insights with the broader CET team and provide input on product direction

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

• Engineering degree or equivalent
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to present to a group in person and/or virtually

BONUS EXPERIENCE:

• Industry Experience - Experience with Gas Detection, HVAC, Controls, and/or Instrumentation
• Plans/Drafting - Familiar with building plans and software used to edit them

What would a typical day look like?

• Formulates competitive bids/estimates/quotations, considering best available product mix and appropriate technical and commercial considerations for each individual situation. Ensures tenders are well documented in a timely manner and with appropriate level of detail, including full and accurate costs.
• Manages the preparation of all technical (e.g., defining the most suitable technology and product type(s)), financial (e.g., total price sheet, cash flow analysis) and if necessary, project management (e.g., quantifies hours of engineering and commissioning) aspects of the bid/estimate/quotation, indicating prices and trading conditions.
• In accordance with bid/estimate/quotation planning, ensures that inputs for editing activities are provided on time and according to established quality procedures. Manages external services to support bid/estimation preparation such as translations and governmental approvals.
• Collects and archives documentation regarding the offer/order and records assumptions and decisions taken during the development process.
• Regularly reports the status of the bids/estimates/quotations using defined tools and collects and analyses the reasons for tenders being lost and won.
• Identifies potential risks in the bids, quotations, and estimates, and in any related contract agreements across customers/channels.
• Provides information and/or participates in the Risk Review process in accordance with Classic Design policy.
• Responsible for collecting and collating all information needed to prepare the proposal, including both technical and cost elements.
• Establishes and maintains effective customer relationships to understand customer needs. Ensures a positive customer experience throughout the sales process.
• Provides any necessary technical support to Sales Managers during technical meetings with customers.
• Identifies potential vendors for equipment and materials required in the project and technically evaluates supplier offers to check match with specifications.
