Job Description

The Applications Engineer supports John Crane’s Wet Seal product line, applying engineering knowledge to ensure products meet customer specifications, perform reliably, and are applied correctly in rotating equipment systems. This role is primarily office-based, providing technical support to internal teams and customers, performing design calculations, and reviewing applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance on seal type, design, and materials of construction based on application requirements.
  • Perform design calculations and prepare application documentation.
  • Approve layouts and manufacturing drawings, ensuring compliance with end-user requirements using technical literature and specialized calculations.
  • Analyze product performance, conduct failure analysis, and document findings in failure reports with recommendations.
  • Review customer specifications and participate in technical calls with Sales Engineering.
  • Recommend materials and components based on operating conditions and the product being pumped.
  • Support manufacturing, assembly, and purchasing teams to resolve technical queries.
  • Conduct occasional site visits to assist with problem resolution or product installation.
  • Assemble and/or test products when required.
  • Complete other engineering duties as assigned.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related).
  • 3–4 years of relevant working engineering experience.
  • Experience with rotating equipment, mechanical seals, pump OEMs, or industrial end-users preferred.
  • Knowledge of materials selection for industrial applications is a plus.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • CAD and FEA skills (Solid Edge preferred) are a plus but not required.

**About the role:**
Create control databases, user interfaces and setup of control systems based on project
specification and/or sale proposal. Perform field startup and system commissioning tasks. Provide
on-site and remote technical support to installers and customers. A Senior Application Engineer will
be responsible for mentoring team members in their subject matter expertise areas.
**What You'll Do:**
Create programming logic using flow diagrams, sequences of operation, understanding panel
layouts, termination details and project specifications or sales proposal.
Programming of control applications using various software tools to support operator workstations,
DDC field panels and third-party integration devices connected through multiple communications
protocols.
On-site and remote installation of software and control programs.

**What You'll Need:**
REQUIRED - Bachelor's Degree in HVAC, Electrical, Mechanical or Software Engineering, or minimal

Salary : $88,000 - $116,000
This range reflects the minimum and maximum target payable for the base salary of new hires across all Canadian locations. Actual compensation may vary outside this range and is dependent on various factors.

Position Description

The AI Application Engineer will play a critical role in bringing cutting-edge artificial intelligence into real-world applications that help water treatment operators make smarter decisions. This role sits at the intersection of data science and software engineering, turning models into fully integrated, reliable product features. You will collaborate with Data Scientists, Product Managers, and Engineers to ensure our AI features are impactful, scalable, and seamlessly deployed across our platform.

You are a creative and pragmatic problem-solver who thrives at the intersection of machine learning and engineering. You understand how to translate model outputs into features that make a difference for customers and you enjoy optimizing those systems for performance, scale, and usability. You are comfortable in a fast-paced environment, care deeply about the end-user experience, and are energized by the opportunity to contribute to global water sustainability.

What You Bring to the Team

Experience

  • p>5+ years of experience in software engineering, including 2+ years of ML/AI application deployment in a production environment.

  • Proven success in building and scaling AI/ML-powered features in SaaS or cloud platforms.

  • Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Familiarity with deploying models via REST APIs or serverless frameworks (AWS Lambda, Cloud Run).

  • Experience working cross-functionally with data science, product, and engineering teams.

  • Bonus: Experience working with time series or industrial IoT data.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree or relevant certifications in AI/ML is a plus.

Skills

    Proficiency in Python and ML-related frameworks (e.g., FastAPI, Flask, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn).

  • Experience in building robust and scalable data pipelines and inference systems.

  • Cloud expertise with AWS, GCP, or Azure.

  • Strong understanding of version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, and performance monitoring.

  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

AI Feature Development:
Design, build, and integrate AI-powered features and tools into Pani’s SaaS platform, focusing on customer experience, model accuracy, and performance.

Model Deployment & Inference Systems:
Deploy ML models as robust, production-ready services and ensure their performance is monitored, versioned, and optimized for scale.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Work closely with Data Scientists, Engineers, and Product Managers to identify opportunities for AI and translate them into actionable product features.

Prototype & Iterate:
Rapidly build and test proof-of-concept AI features and workflows, iterate based on feedback, and take successful prototypes to production.

Operational Reliability:
Implement best practices for AI reliability, including automated testing, monitoring, rollback plans, and error handling.
