About the Role
Reporting to the Director of AI Trust and Safety, the Applied Research Scientist will lead innovative research focused on AI Trust and Safety (T&S), with a particular focus on advanced AI systems and their systemic and societal risks. They will contribute to a dynamic research agenda that builds on Amiis strengths, addresses critical gaps in the T&S landscape, and is informed by emerging national and international research priorities. Amiis strategy is grounded in advancing AI T&S to support innovation, responsible adoption, and the diffusion of AI technologies, transforming research outputs into practical tools, frameworks, and resources that have real-world impact.
The Applied Research Scientist will leverage their work through academic papers, whitepapers, conference presentations, and practical tools to position Amii as a leader in AI safety. Their research will advance the understanding of AI risks, drive the development of more trustworthy AI systems, and support the responsible adoption of AI technologies.
The position centers on three key areas:
- Trust & Safety AI Research Projects
- Strategy and Applied Expertise
- Project Execution
Research priorities include advancing rigorous methodologies for risk assessment and system evaluations, studying the real-world behavior of complex AI systems, and developing new approaches for designing safer AI models. Particular emphasis will be placed on safety challenges in reinforcement learning (RL) and continual learning (CL), where systems adapt over time or learn from ongoing experience in dynamic environments.
Focus areas span topics such as:
- Developing robust techniques for assessing capabilities, risks, and system robustness in adaptive systems, including Reinforcement Learning (RL), Safe RL, and continual Reinforcement Learning.
- Studying the real-world impacts of AI systems, including detecting and mitigating synthetic content and fraud, with the potential to leverage game-theoretic frameworks to model and analyze adversarial dynamics.
- Research into value misalignment, robustness, and interpretability in RL agents, as well as the integration of human feedback and constraints into RL systems.
- Other emerging areas of RL or continual RL research that align with T&S objectives and long-term research priorities.

Key Responsibilities:
Trust & Safety Research Projects
- Develop and propose Trust & Safety (T&S) research projects - defining objectives, scope, methodologies, and resource needs - and conduct original research to build models, tools, and approaches that address real-world challenges.
- Author and publish peer-reviewed papers, white papers, and other scientific outputs to advance the field and share findings with the broader community.
- Consider pathways to real-world impact throughout the research process, identifying opportunities to translate findings into practical tools, frameworks, and applications.
- Continuously refine research plans in response to emerging insights, technological advances, and shifts in industry needs.
- Design, develop, and execute large-scale AI experiments to advance research and inform applied solutions.
- Synthesize existing research to identify knowledge gaps and drive the development of new scientific projects.
- Support collaborations with Canadian and international research institutions to expand the scope and impact of T&S research.
Strategy and Applied Expertise
- Develop and communicate a clear vision and strategy for how projects contribute to the goals and objectives of the T&S program at Amii.
- Stay current with advancements in AI, ML, and T&S, offering cutting-edge insights and guidance.
- Contribute to multi-stakeholder discussions to collaborate on the technical and strategic direction for T&S projects.
- Represent the organization at conferences, workshops, and industry events, sharing knowledge and building a reputation as a thought leader in AI T&S.
- Support reporting requirements and generate insights on our T&S impact for key funding and government bodies.
Project Execution
- Collaborate on the successful implementation of high-impact T&S research projects.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, coordinate project timelines, and resolve challenges to ensure project success.
- Evaluate project results to assess performance and determine whether to continue, pivot, or discontinue research projects.
- Provide technical guidance and support to other team members.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field, with demonstrated research experience in ML/AI/RL.
- Strong expertise in Reinforcement Learning (RL), including experience designing, implementing, and evaluating RL algorithms in both simulated and real-world environments; familiarity with common RL libraries.
- Track record of contributions to top-tier ML/AI conferences or journals.
- Experience developing, training, and evaluating machine learning models in applied settings. (Bonus: Experience applying RL in real-world domains such as robotics, games, systems optimization, or safety-critical environments).
- Strong interest or experience in AI Trust & Safety (T&S), including familiarity with emerging challenges, priorities, and research agendas.
- Proficient in Python; familiarity with additional languages such as C++, Java, or SQL (nice to have)
- Familiar with tools and frameworks such as: Pytorch/Tensorflow/JAX, Scikit-learn Pandas, Optuna, Wandb, lightgbm/XGBoost, SciPy, UNIX/Linux and large-scale high-performance computing environments.
- Up-to-date knowledge of foundational and cutting-edge ML/AI advancements, particularly in the Trust & Safety domain.
- Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction and guidance of the Director of Innovation, Science and Climate Change (ISCC), the Applied Research & Knowledge Mobilization Manager is responsible for leading IRCs knowledge acquisition projects and will oversee efforts related to data analysis, modelling, results generation and science communication. Areas of focus may include resource development, climate, environmental, health, social, cultural, and economic matters throughout the Inuvialuit Settlement Region (ISR). To achieve meaningful advancements in these areas, the incumbent will draft proposals to secure funding, manage research administration, design and oversee projects, including selecting appropriate methodologies and techniques for conducting research and leading the development of research instruments, such as survey questionnaires, training/information guides and infrastructure. The Applied Research & Knowledge Mobilization Manager will review research related fieldwork, validate, and analyze collected data, draft reports, and communicate results. One key area of focus will the Qanuippitaa? National Inuit Health Survey (QNIHS).
The Applied Research & Knowledge Mobilization Manager will be responsible for supervising internal research and monitoring staff focused on programs related to Inuvialuit social, cultural, economic, and environmental wellbeing. This position is responsible for successfully acquiring funds to maintain/grow their team, implementing research policy, executing IRCs strategic plan, mobilizing knowledge, and fostering the next generation of Inuvialuit researchers. To be successful in the role, the incumbent will plan and administer program budgets, work collaboratively with internal and external partners and support the research team to ensure the completion of projects on time and on budget.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must be/have:
Education:
At least a Masters degree in social or health sciences.
Experience:
At least 5 years of experience in an applied research setting (e.g., university or government);
At least 5 years of experience in preparing and analysing various types of statistical data, producing summary statistics and research reports;
At least 3 years of direct supervisory experience in a research or policy setting;
At least 5 years of project management experience (PMI designation preferred);
At least 5 years of experience in financial management, planning, forecasting and reporting;
At least 2 years of experience in data analysis and communicating statistical information with a focus on non-technical audiences;
Highly proficient in the use statistical tools, algorithms, models, and software (e.g., R, Stata, SPSS, SAS, etc.).
Experience working with Indigenous communities and organizations
Additional Qualifications:
Specialized knowledge of data collection, methods, and statistics.
Working knowledge of the Inuvialuit Settlement Region;
Demonstrated proficiency working with computers (including GIS, numerical models, database management and the Microsoft Suite);
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong networking skills;
Highly motivated, analytical, dependable, independent with a strong work ethic;
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously;
Reliable and willing to work with minimum supervision;

Reporting to the Ultimate Yield Research & Certification Manager, the Research Associate will play an integral role as part of the Ultimate Yield (UY) research team, contributing to agronomic research initiatives with the goal of optimizing crop production. This position will be responsible for establishing, maintaining and evaluating research plots with the intent of supporting data-driven insights to advance agricultural practices.
Position Responsibilities:
- Management of plots while maintaining strict adherence to research protocols
- Operation and basic maintenance of research equipment, including, but not limited to tractors, sprayers, plot drill, spreaders, combines, loading and securing equipment on trailers, driving trucks and trailers
- Planning and execution of field applications (i.e. seeding, spraying, harvesting etc.), including organization of inputs and materials needed
- Accurate and thorough in-field data collection
- Coordination with both research and agronomy teams to ensure all protocols are conducted at the correct time and stage (in-season field applications, data collection etc.)
- Regular scouting and maintenance of research plots
- Operation of technology used at research plots including drones, cameras etc.
- Problem solve issues observed in the field

Minimum requirements
- Master’s degree in the Social Sciences (e.g., Economics, Urban Planning, Psychology, Public Health, Political Science), Public Policy, Global Affairs or Public Administration
- 2-5 years experience working in a public sector consulting and/or evaluation and research
- Experience with a range of applied research techniques and evaluation methodologies
- Policy domain knowledge in at least one of the following areas: employment, income security, mental health, child and youth development, housing, community safety, and justice
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information into clear and concise client-facing materials
- High standards for accuracy, attention to detail and professional judgement
- A collaborative team player who brings curiosity, humility and an ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic and agile work environment
- Strong time management and organizational skills; able to navigate tight timelines, actively communicate progress, proactively problem-solve
- Eagerness to contribute to a high-performance, feedback-oriented team culture
- Proficiency with Microsoft software (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and willingness to learn and use other tools and platforms (e.g., Qualtrics, Miro, Condens)

US: Leading innovators in the lipid nanoparticle (LNP) field, looking for a talented individual to join our collaborative, passionate, and diverse results focused team.
ROLE SUMMARY: Acuitas Therapeutics is seeking a Research Associate with a strong background in immunology and immunological methods to work in the Preclinical team, reporting to the Senior Research Scientist, Preclinical. The role holder will be responsible for executing and supporting studies assessing the pharmacology, immunology, mechanism of action, distribution and safety profile of our LNP, executing analyses and data interpretation, and presenting results to the team and company.
Working with the Preclinical team, the responsibilities would include:
- Executing and supporting studies to evaluate LNP activity, distribution, mechanisms of action, immune profiles and safety.
- Mastering established methods and developing new methods to support preclinical objectives, including ELISA, MSD, luciferase assays, qPCR, SDS-PAGE, DNA/RNA isolation and protein quantification.
- Cell culture and cell-based assays (including ELIspot), cell isolation, and processing tissues and fluids for downstream analysis.
- Hands-on experience in multi-colour flow cytometry, intracellular cytokine staining and gating strategies.
- General laboratory support including preparation of reagents and solutions, laboratory organization, maintaining sample and reagent inventory, and shipping of materials.
- Up to date Biosafety/Biosecurity (Containment Level 2+) and WHMIS certification will be required.
- Maintain familiarity with relevant scientific knowledge and advancements in LNP technology.
- May be required to train more junior staff and co-op students.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- BSc with 2-10 years experience or an MSc with up to 7 years experience; some industry experience preferred.
- Hands-on experience conducting experiments with LNP in vitro and ex vivo; knowledge of LNP formulation processes, LNP characteristics, in vivo biodistribution, pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics
- Strong background in innate and adaptive immunology. Knowledge specific to LNP preferred.
- Strong understanding of cell biology and human physiology with a focus on liver structure and function as well as other fenestrated organs.
- Background in vaccine development and experience conducting/analyzing associated assays (ELISA, EliSpot, HAI)
- Hands-on experience in tissue isolation, single cell preparation, cell culture, cell-based assays and cell differentiation.
- Extensive experience in multiplex immune-based assays. Specifically Meso Scale Diagnostics and multichannel flow cytometry including the development of gating strategies.
- Confident and proven safety when working in Biosafety Level 2+ environments.
- Excellent writing and presentation skills. Accurate and appropriate data analysis and use of statistics.
- Familiar with Spotfire and Big Omics or similar visualization platforms. Fluent working with Graph Pad and Microsoft Office. Adept utilizing Flo Jo or similar.
- Responsible and reliable record keeping, organization and assisting in lab management as needed.
