We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Technical Architectural Designer  to join our Store Planning team. In this role, you will play a key part in preparing technical drawings and interior layout details for our retail stores, ensuring compliance with design standards, landlord requirements, and local building regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare detailed technical drawings for retail store interiors using AutoCAD.
  • Implement pre-approved design concepts into assigned interior spaces (non-load-bearing construction).
  • Apply and ensure compliance with landlord design criteria and Level of Detail (LOD) requirements.
  • Produce drawings required for building permit applications.
  • Perform material take-offs and calculate required quantities.
  • Prepare documentation for fixture and equipment procurement.
  • Ensure construction drawings accurately reflect brand book guidelines and design team directives, and that final IFC, IFT, and IFP drawing sets are consistent and ready for the project management team.
  • Coordinate with external consultants to ensure alignment with brand standards.
  • Collaborate with third-party vendors to integrate technical details of fixtures and fittings into drawings.
  • Work closely with internal teams (IT, Loss Prevention, Marketing, Visual Merchandising) to ensure full coordination across all build aspects.
  • Oversee external drafting consultants to ensure accuracy and compliance with design requirements.
  • Participate in project planning with design and project management teams.
  • Ensure drawing sets align with project budgets and timelines.
  • Respond quickly to site-related issues and propose effective solutions.
  • Maintain and update standard layout blocks and drafting configurations.
  • Manage and keep the brand’s technical documentation and file directories up to date.
Qualifications

  • College diploma in Interior Design, Technical Drawing, or Architectural Technology
  • 5–7 years of experience in retail construction drawing production (including space planning of individual stores)
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and 3D rendering tools (Photoshop, InDesign, SketchUp)
  • Knowledge of MS Office products
  • Demonstrates strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Can manage multiple priorities and tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Shows initiative and adaptability when facing new challenges.
  • Bilingual (English and French), written and spoken

**Job Description:**
Parsons Professional Services Incorporated is a Toronto & Markham based practice with projects in the transit and transportation sector.
We work closely as an integrated practice and have developed high standards of communication, project documentation, contract administration, and risk management.
We are currently seeking a Graduate Architect to join our growing practice on a full-time basis. Salary to be commensurate with experience and expertise.
POSITION OVERVIEW: Independently performs a wide variety of conventional and moderately complex architectural assignments by applying architectural design standards, practices, and techniques. The incumbent at this level regularly exercises discretion and independent judgment in developing original designs and is proficient in the utilization of standard architectural techniques.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ **Demonstrated proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD software is a must-have for this position.**
+ Performs a variety of assignments such as conducting architectural studies, developing design concepts and design criteria, and preparing related reports. Reviews CAD drawings, renderings, layouts, study models, and construction documents.
+ Ensures compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
+ Writes construction specifications and prepares detailed requisitions for equipment and materials.
+ Interfaces with suppliers as required. Coordinates work with engineering and construction representatives onsite.
+ Reviews approves, and issues detailed design and construction drawings and specifications prepared by others.
+ Provides technical guidance to others working on the same or similar projects.
+ Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture (or equivalent) is required with 3-5 years of post-graduate experience. Professional registration is not required at this level. Demonstrated proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD software is a must-have for this position.
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES: Requires proficiency in the application of architectural design standards, practices, and techniques, as well as a demonstrated proficiency in sketching, rendering, model-building, and presentation drawing. General proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit software are required.

Role and Objectives:

The Architectural Technologist, reporting to the Design Manager, will support Senior Design Technicians and Project Teams in concept design, 3D modeling, and producing production drawings for critical project elements. Your role is crucial in ensuring the successful design of mass timber structures by executing project plans and providing structural and architectural designs that optimize the use of Glulam and Cross-Laminated Timber products, Wall systems, and Modular projects. Aligning with customers’ vision and objectives.

Your creative problem-solving will help you navigate design challenges and adapt to evolving project requirements. By applying meticulous attention to detail, you'll ensure precision and quality in every drawing and specification. With your effective time management, you'll balance multiple priorities and deadlines, contributing to the timely and successful delivery of sustainable, high-performance timber projects.


Responsibilities:

Design Preparation: Prepare designs and drawings based on preliminary concepts, sketches, engineering calculations, specification sheets, and other data, transforming them into fully operational drawings for manufacturing and assembly processes.

2D Shop Drawings: Produce and review detailed 2D shop drawings for complex projects for timber elements, including Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT), Glulam beams, Light Frame Wall (LFW) and other timber and steel components.

3D Modeling: Create 3D models, focusing on detailed mass timber elements such as cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels, glulam beams, Light Frame Walls (LFW) and columns. Include detailed manufacturing sizes, dimensions, and engineering preferences for connections. Ensure alignment with IFC timber and steel elements standards.

Production Drawings: Generate, review, and deliver production drawings, including dimensions, material specifications, and assembly instructions.

Drawing Review: Conduct thorough reviews of own and others' drawings to ensure accuracy, feasibility, and compliance with the company QA/QC process and industry standards.

Coordination and Collaboration: Coordinate with other trades to ensure seamless integration of design elements, facilitating effective communication and cooperation among team members to achieve project goals.


Requirements:

Education:

  • Diploma in civil engineering, Structural Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
  • Courses or certifications in Mass Timber Construction and Design.
  • Training in Building Information Modeling (BIM).

Experience

  • Three years of experience as a building envelope designer, architectural technologist, or BIM Technician.
  • Two years as a Mass Timber designer is considered an asset.

Software and tools

  • Excellent knowledge of computer programs, including Microsoft Office programs such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Bluebeam.
  • Experience with CADwork (preferred), SolidWorks, Rhino, Revit, or other 3D software.

  • Salary: $65,000.00 – 80,000.00 (Dependent on experience)
