Job Description

Job Description

You’re an Art Director.

You recognize the importance of a sharp insight just as much as you appreciate the power of meticulously kerned type. You know design isn’t only about how something looks, but how it makes people feel. Whether you’re working in pixels, paper, or pen and ink, craft is at the heart of everything you do.

You are one half of a creative team, developing original ideas and seeing them through from sketch to execution. You present with confidence and clarity, building trust with clients and showing them what’s possible when great strategy meets bold creative thinking.

You’re a collaborator. You share ideas, build on others’, and help create a culture where fearless thinking thrives. You give and receive feedback with honesty and respect. You know creativity isn’t built on ego—it’s built on generosity and ambition.

You’re someone who sweats the details, and it shows. You take pride in the work, and if an idea isn’t strong enough, you can’t help but keep pushing. Awards may not be the reason we do the work—but we should always make the work award-worthy.

Here, you’re part of a collective. No silos. No borders. We win together, learn together, and push each other further.

What are your responsibilities?

You bring ideas to life across every medium: digital, social, film, print, and beyond. You can shift from designing a campaign look and feel to finding the perfect image that makes a layout sing, with equal dedication. You stay on top of cultural and design trends, not to follow them, but to push brands into new, unexpected territory.

You’re a natural collaborator. You work seamlessly with strategists, business leads, copywriters, and makers to build ideas that are bold, smart, and beautifully executed. You take feedback with openness, give it with respect, and always push the work to be its best.

You keep your cool under pressure. Managing multiple clients, multiple time zones, multiple deadlines without losing focus or craft. Details matter to you, whether it’s a client presentation, an RFP, or final touches after delivery.

You know that great creative doesn’t happen in a vacuum. You communicate clearly, listen closely and earn the trust of teams and clients by showing them what’s possible when ideas are pushed to their best.

What kind of background should I have?

In addition to those required of all our creatives, you will need:

  • 4+ years as an art director, creating strategically driven, award-worthy work
  • A portfolio that shows your craft, originality, and eye for detail across mediums
  • A knack for collaborating with anyone who can make the idea stronger
  • The confidence to stand in front of clients or colleagues and present ideas with clarity and conviction
  • And most importantly, a genuine love for solving problems creatively

What type of person should I be?

You will be:

  • A strong creative voice and a supportive teammate
  • Patient and tactful, but unafraid to push the work
  • Nurturing of ideas, while holding yourself to a high standard of craft
  • Generous with your time and your ideas
  • And, ready to help grow the ChangeMakers name in Canada

We are ChangeMakers

ChangeMakers is a leading independent agency specializing in building purpose-driven brands and strategies that make a meaningful impact. With deep roots in brand strategy, creative, marketing, communications, and Indigenous engagement, our team works across Canada and beyond to help organizations grow and thrive in meaningful ways.

An equitable employer

We strongly encourage applications from Indigenous communities, racialized communities, women, persons with disabilities, LGBTQ2S+ people, and other historically marginalized groups. If you require accommodation during the recruitment process, we will work with you to meet your needs in accordance with human rights and accessibility legislation. At ChangeMakers, we understand that the ideal candidate may not meet every single requirement listed above. If you have relevant experience and a strong interest in the role, we encourage you to submit your application. We welcome creative thinkers and people who bring diverse lived experiences to our team.
