**What you will contribute:**
Team Collaboration
Collaborate with multi-functional project teams that include the customer, Project Managers, Integrators, Designers, Software Developers, to plan and develop an ETO solution to achieve the agreed requirements and deliver effective solutions
Lead discussions with the customers on understanding and documenting their workflow requirements
Share feedback to the Operations and R&D teams to help drive and implement continuous improvements
Technical
Develop automated workflows using our trademarked industry leading scheduling software and demonstrate simulations for customers
Ability to analyze workflow requirements and collaborate with the project team on appropriate automation solutions
Install and configure software required to operate the automated systems
Lead customer meetings and discussions as the subject matter expert on the implementation
Configure automation to exchange data generated on the system with the customeru2019s Lab Information Management System (LIMS) when required
Teach and optimize robot/mover motion and workflows using our company''s market leading scheduling software
Test and address any issues to successfully achieve customer site acceptance test (SAT) approval
Provide basic training and familiarization of the automated system to the end customer users
Ensure systems are coordinated in alignment with established standard operating procedures
**How will you get there?**
Education:
University degree or college diploma in Computer Science, Mechatronics, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Electro-mechanical, or related field of study
Experience:
5 years of automation experience, or related field
2 years in a role directly collaborating with customers in a professional environment
Experience with programming languages (C++, Python) is considered an asset
Experience integrating or servicing laboratory instruments considered an asset
Knowledge & Skills:
High proficiency in electromechanical problem-solving techniques
Solid understanding of software and networking
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Strong organization, planning and time leadership skills
Professional presence
Proficient English speaking and writing skills

Automation Specialist
Location: 1 hour East of Ottawa.
Shift Days - Monday to Friday 8am - 5pm.
Pay: $70k - $79k per year.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain good working order of critical plant servers in conjunction with IT support.
- Technical support for various automation equipment such as: PLCs, scale indicators, sensors, meters.
- Troubleshooting and maintenance of supervisory and S.C.A.D.A/HMI systems, of recipe systems, tracking systems, data collection systems.
- Integration of new automation equipment and systems into current production environment. This includes PLCs, PLC code, supervisory and S.C.A.D.A/HMI systems, interfacing with database systems.
- To directly support the plant as required during normal operations and planned shutdowns.
- Document existing and new automation systems.
- Keep up to date on all critical automation systems in order to diagnose system failures.
- Program, implement and maintain automation systems with various languages, ensure the integrity, accuracy of data and reports for productions, QA and other departments.
- Keep current on new computer technology and production processes and apply it to improve existing systems.
- Work with users & System administrators during installation phase and provide training as required.
- Train employees such as electricians on automation systems (PLCs, sensors, other automation devices).
- Review software and hardware problems with operators and other users and provide ongoing technical assistance regarding automation systems.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor degree in engineering or associated degree that can obtain a P.Eng preferred OR Technology technical degree from accredited college or better.
- Exposure to PLCs: programming, troubleshooting.
- Experience with HMI/SCADA systems (GE Cimplicity, WinCC from Siemens).
- Knowledge in networking, IT infrastructure, servers, and computer hardware.
- Skills in programming languages such as C++, C#, scripting or equivalent.
- Familiarity with SQL Server and T-SQL language.
- Bilingual: English and French (oral and written) *preferred.
- Overtime.
- Weekends as needed.

What would a typical day look like?
- Technically, Automation Specialists will work on various stages of automation and control projects including PLC programming, HMI design, SCADA system design, electrical design and troubleshooting/testing/debugging, controls documents
- Participate in planning sessions that will identify industry business drivers and trends that will serve as the basis for developing key offerings to our clients
- Attend client field service and emergency calls
What qualifies you for this opportunity?
- Post-secondary degree/diploma in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or equivalent qualifications preferred.
- Ideally 5 years’ experience with PLC Programming and HMI/SCADA Design primarily in Rockwell and Schneider
- Experience commissioning at customer sites including troubleshooting, testing and debugging of systems
- A proven self-starter with a positive attitude, who is motivated by solving complex challenges
- A strong client-focused approach, dedicated to providing exceptional client experiences to our internal and external customers
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Motivated & passionate about working with people and overcoming challenges through collaboration and a win-win paradigm
- An ability to travel; Automation Specialists at JMP should have the ability to travel within the US and Canada
