Automation Specialist

Location: 1 hour East of Ottawa.

Shift Days - Monday to Friday 8am - 5pm.

Pay: $70k - $79k per year.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintain good working order of critical plant servers in conjunction with IT support.
• Technical support for various automation equipment such as: PLCs, scale indicators, sensors, meters.
• Troubleshooting and maintenance of supervisory and S.C.A.D.A/HMI systems, of recipe systems, tracking systems, data collection systems.
• Integration of new automation equipment and systems into current production environment. This includes PLCs, PLC code, supervisory and S.C.A.D.A/HMI systems, interfacing with database systems.
• To directly support the plant as required during normal operations and planned shutdowns.
• Document existing and new automation systems.
• Keep up to date on all critical automation systems in order to diagnose system failures.
• Program, implement and maintain automation systems with various languages, ensure the integrity, accuracy of data and reports for productions, QA and other departments.
• Keep current on new computer technology and production processes and apply it to improve existing systems.
• Work with users & System administrators during installation phase and provide training as required.
• Train employees such as electricians on automation systems (PLCs, sensors, other automation devices).
• Review software and hardware problems with operators and other users and provide ongoing technical assistance regarding automation systems.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor degree in engineering or associated degree that can obtain a P.Eng preferred OR Technology technical degree from accredited college or better.
• Exposure to PLCs: programming, troubleshooting.
• Experience with HMI/SCADA systems (GE Cimplicity, WinCC from Siemens).
• Knowledge in networking, IT infrastructure, servers, and computer hardware.
• Skills in programming languages such as C++, C#, scripting or equivalent.
• Familiarity with SQL Server and T-SQL language.
• Bilingual: English and French (oral and written) *preferred.
• Overtime.
• Weekends as needed.

Westburne is currently seeking an Automation Sales Specialist responsible for Automation Services to support the geographical territory of British Columbia based out of Prince George, BC. The Services Sales Specialist is a highly trained individual who represents the Rockwell Automation (Allen-Bradley) and Westburne’s portfolio of automation services:  Training, Remanufacturing, Field Labour, Technical Support Contracts and Annual Re-Occurring Revenue Contracts.  The successful candidate will support both internal and external customers with in-depth technical and application knowledge while being responsible for the sales performance of their product discipline within the assigned territory.  The Services Sales Specialist is a dynamic role with sales, technical and marketing responsibilities including, but not limited to: Sales Responsibilities * Prepare and execute an annual strategic business and growth plan for sales development. * Actively manage an opportunity funnel that is appropriate to achieving sales objectives. * Actively pursue and develop new business opportunities. * Comfortable leading very complex initiatives providing value to stakeholders. * Ability to uncover customer needs that yield desired outcomes by designing and implementing a Lifecycle Services journey. * Support Westburne and Rockwell Automation sales representatives with account planning and execution. Technical Responsibilities * Act as a pre-sale consultant to provide technical solutions to customers. * Facilitate post-sale technical support programs to build competency and confidence of customers. * Conduct presentations and product updates. * Serve as domain expert around Services business and continuously build competency. * Attend supplier partner training (Canada/US) to maintain a high level of specialized product and application knowledge. Marketing Responsibilities * Understand market conditions and competitive forces, analyze market share and identify growth opportunities. * Develop and execute commercial activities as a component of an annual strategic business plan.  Product launches, Seminars, promotional programs, etc. * Implement strategies to address competition and expand market penetration using available marketing tools. QUALIFICATIONS Education:    Electrical/Electronic/Automation Technology diploma or degree from a recognized institution. Experience:    Minimum of 2+ years previous experience in automation or technical product sales/support. Desired Skills: * An understanding of sales principles such as Strategic selling, Customer Centric Selling, Conceptual Selling, etc. * Proactive, engaging, self-motivated and results oriented. * Time management, organizational and problem solving proficiency. * Strong written/verbal business communication & presentation skills. * Experience with Microsoft Office suite. * Technical understanding of industrial automation systems and manufacturing business drivers. **Valid driver’s licence and passport will be required for this position. Reporting to the director of operations, the Automation Specialist with provide professional programmer analysis, sound knowledge in the field of data communication, skilled in collecting facts, discovering problems as well as providing solutions to them, and able to work as a project leader as well as an effective team player.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• PLC CodeSys / TwinCat / SoMachine
• TwidoSuite-Soft / PCWorx etc.
• C++ OPC / Web / asapi dll – srf extension / SQL Server / Ajax / Java
• Devices: Schweitzer / Micro PIC’s / various HMI interface
• Develop and deploy various software & programming solutions
• On Site service, installation, and support
• Program HMI/PLC which auto detects hardware configuration changes on startup.
• Created a system for autonomously controlling Dynamic Power Factor at several (10) 10MW Solar sites with e-house resident PLC’s running a logic control loop that adjust Inverter settings dynamically to maintain the site PF within required PF specification limits
• Integration of external science weather station devices into EnerQuest e-house PLC collector
• Creating iHouse PLC logic which manages a system of switchable over-populated solar array strings, dynamically as determined by PLC’s close monitoring Inverter voltage and current conditions

As an Automation Specialist within our Calgary office, you will excel in a multi-faceted role supporting our clients in the Automation Solutions space. You will be pivotal in solving our customers’ business problems using your creativity and technical expertise to create, design and implement innovative control system solutions. Ultimately, you will provide superior client experiences partnering with your internal team to cohesively deliver a vision, energy, and intensity that exceeds client expectations.

What would a typical day look like?

• Technically, Automation Specialists will work on various stages of automation and control projects including PLC programming, HMI design, SCADA system design, electrical design and troubleshooting/testing/debugging, controls documents
• Participate in planning sessions that will identify industry business drivers and trends that will serve as the basis for developing key offerings to our clients
• Attend client field service and emergency calls

What qualifies you for this opportunity?

• Post-secondary degree/diploma in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or equivalent qualifications preferred.
• Ideally 5 years’ experience with PLC Programming and HMI/SCADA Design primarily in Rockwell and Schneider
• Experience commissioning at customer sites including troubleshooting, testing and debugging of systems
• A proven self-starter with a positive attitude, who is motivated by solving complex challenges
• A strong client-focused approach, dedicated to providing exceptional client experiences to our internal and external customers
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Motivated & passionate about working with people and overcoming challenges through collaboration and a win-win paradigm
• An ability to travel; Automation Specialists at JMP should have the ability to travel within the US and Canada

Physical Demands:

• While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to feel objects, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, talk and hear.
• Specific vision abilities required for the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
