Your tasks will include: * Lead and supervise project teams and bridge engineering group. * Prepare proposals, studies, and technical reports. * Analysis and design of bridges and other structures including new design, load ratings and rehabilitation/retrofit of existing bridges, culverts, retaining walls and civil structures. * Engineering review of design drawings. * Draft, modify, and update proposals, and prepare and deliver presentations/proposals. * Prepare tender documents, quantities and contract administration and management. * Maintain regular contact with clients and attend meetings. * Provide technical expertise to clients and team members. * Prepare, monitor, and forecast budget/cost/project schedule. * Prepare and monitor scope of work and methodologies, monitor project progress and participate in milestone meetings. * Project management, including scheduling, status reports, etc. * Manage contact with subtrades, and provide technical expertise, advice, and oversight. * Coordinate with various stakeholders and provide updates as necessary. Entuitive is looking for a Senior Engineer to primarily focus on structural design and evaluation of bridges. This role will include aspects of project delivery, production of structural documents, and construction administration. Responsibilities
- Analysis and detailed design of new bridges, bridge rehabilitations and evaluations, culverts and retaining walls.
- Preparation of contract specifications
- Participate in bridge and civil structure inspections
- Preparation of structural reports
- Supervision of bridge CAD technicians for production of drawings and project deliverables
- Mentor other junior and intermediate team members
- Review of construction shop drawings
- Ability to oversee and manage several large-scale bridge projects
- Preliminary and detailed design of new bridges, culverts and retaining walls, and rehabilitation of existing structures
- Conduct inspections of existing bridges, culverts and retaining walls and prepare reports
- Prepare sketches for CAD staff and review CAD drawings

- Liaise with contractors and owners during design and construction

Requirements
What do you need to succeed?
- Undergraduate degree in Civil/Structural engineering from an accredited university
- Post-graduate degree would be an asset
- Minimum 8 years of relevant bridge design experience
- Conversant with CHBDC (CAN-S6), MTO Structural Manual and MTO practices and policies
- Registered or eligible for professional registration with PEO
- Strong background in review and design of concrete and steel bridges
- Must be proficient in verbal and written communication in the English language
- Conversant with the use of major Structural Analysis Software and AutoCAD
- Be able to facilitate inter-discipline coordination and cooperation
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplined team environment
- Must demonstrate a collaborative attitude in working with members of the Team
- Previous experience as a Structural Engineer or similar field
- Degree in Structural Engineering; a Master’s degree is a plus
- Knowledge and interest related to embodied carbon is considered an asset

The candidates preferred location is St. Johns, NL but we are also open to candidates in Halifax, Nova Scotia, or Fredericton, New Brunswick. As our ideal candidate, you have expertise in all areas of Bridge Engineering and are excited to lead young teams to produce quality work, while also leaning on the support of other experienced members of CBCLs Bridge Group.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and Innovate: Act as Project Manager, Structural Lead, and Designer for a diverse range of bridge projects, guiding them from initial concept through to completion;
- Mentor and Inspire: Lead and mentor engineering teams while fostering a collaborative atmosphere and coordinating work with our in-house disciplines, including but not limited to geotechnical, highway, civil, water resources, coastal, environmental, cost estimation, climate change, mechanical and electrical;
- Drive Business Growth: Engage in business development activities, including proposal preparation and client interactions, to support and expand our service offerings;
- Provide On-Site Expertise: Visit project sites to collect essential data, assess existing structures, and oversee project progress during and after construction;
- Craft and Refine: Prepare and review technical reports, tender documents, and cost estimates, ensuring precision and adherence to current design codes and standards; and
- Uphold Excellence: Oversee the development of contract documents and perform quality checks on deliverables to maintain our high standards.
Other Related Duties as Required:
- Engage with universities and contribute to our academic partnerships;
- Present at conferences and share your knowledge through papers and presentations;
- Develop and refine tools and workflows that enhance our teams efficiency; and
- Explore and propose new business markets for our Bridge Engineering Team.
Your Capabilities and Credentials:
- Educational and Professional Credentials: A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering is required, with registration or eligibility for registration with provincial Engineering Associations;
- Experience: Minimum five years of structural engineering experience for intermediate candidates, with a minimum of three years specifically in bridge engineering; candidates for a junior role may be considered with at least 3 years of structural engineering experience (post-grad) with some bridge engineering experience preferred;
- Technical Expertise:
In-depth knowledge of bridge design and constructability, with proficiency in current design codes, including the CHBDC (CSA S6-19), ensuring high-quality engineering solutions; - Skilled in Inspection: Bridge inspection experience with a strong understanding of material conditions and defects using a variety of inspection methodologies;
- Design Proficiency:
Demonstrated expertise in designing both concrete and steel bridges for short and medium spans, ensuring structural integrity and compliance with relevant standards; - Collaborative Communicator: Strong communication skills for effectively conveying technical information, drafting detailed reports and proposals, and working seamlessly with drafting personnel and multidisciplinary teams;
- Organized and Detail-Oriented:
Proven ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently, maintain attention to detail, and oversee project timelines and budgets, ensuring successful project delivery; and - Experienced Relationship Builder: Strong capability to engage with clients, represent the company effectively, and contribute to business development efforts through proposal preparation and client interactions.
What Will Make you Stand Out:
- A Master's or Ph.D. in Civil Engineering with a focus on bridge design, construction, or rehabilitation will set you apart as a candidate;
- Familiarity with Atlantic Canadian and/or Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications;
- Experience with various inspection methodologies, especially OSIM;
- Knowledge of timber design and familiarity with US and/or European codes;
- A passion for mentoring and developing junior engineers and technologists;
- Advanced analytical and computer modeling skills (LUSAS Bridge and Midas preferred); and
- Strong client relationship management skills.

In this role, your duties and responsibilitieswill include:
- Complete the preliminary and detail design of new bridges, culverts, and retaining walls, as well as the rehabilitation of existing structures, including structural modelling and analysis.
- Review design drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with industry standards and project requirements.
- Act as an assistant Project Manager when necessary for preliminary and detailed design projects for the Ministry of Transportation and other public / private clients, working with the Project Manager to oversee internal and external disciplines to ensure successful execution.
- Provide recommendations and cost estimates for bridge, culvert, and retaining wall maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation.
- Liaise with project team members, sub-consultants, clients, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless coordination of technical aspects throughout the project.
- Act as an ambassador for LEA, promoting our expertise and services to current and potential clients.
- Develop project plans by defining timelines, creating schedules and cost estimates, and overseeing progress to ensure deliverables are met on time and within budget for both internal teams and sub-consultants.
- Provide regular status reports, highlighting progress, key milestones, and potential risks or delays.
- Ensure quality control and quality assurance measures are followed throughout the project.
- Supervise and train staff to meet project requirements, including developing their technical and project management skills.
- Supervise and conduct condition surveys of TTC structures. Review and prepare Condition Survey Reports and Preliminary Design Reports, contract drawings, and TTC specifications.
- Supervise and conduct structural inspections of existing bridges, culverts, and other transportation structures in accordance with the Ontario Structure Inspection Manual (OSIM) and the Ontario Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
- Continuously grow professional skills and knowledge through training sessions, seminars, workshops, and involvement in professional associations to stay updated on the latest trends, software, and technology.
- Assisting with managing other related assignments within the scope of the Structures Division.
The qualifications you need:
- Professional Engineering Licence (P.Eng.) in the province of Ontario, in good standing with PEO.
- Bachelor of Engineering in Civil/Structural with a minimum of 10 years of work experience in the design of bridge projects for public and private sector clients. Experience with projects for the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) is considered an asset.
- In-depth knowledge of relevant standards and codes, including those set by the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO).
- Good knowledge of industry-relevant structural analysis and drafting software (SAP2000, Midas Civil, AutoCAD, MicroStation, MathCAD, etc.) is an asset.
- Familiarity with the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CSA S6), Canadian Code for Design of Concrete (CSA A23) and Steel (CSA S16) Structures, Ontario Building Code (OBC), Ontario ProvincialStandards and Specifications (OPSS), and MTO manuals and guidelines related to structures (such as the MTO Structural Manual and MTO Structure Rehabilitation Manual).
- Good project management skills, with a proven track record of successfully leading and delivering complex projects.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively liaise with clients, sub-consultants, and other departments.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and guide junior engineers and designers.
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, with the ability to complete multiple project tasks and meet tight project deadlines when required.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and staying updated on industry trends.
