An excellent opportunity exists with a leading Architecture and Design firm, that has multiple offices and is is hiring for an experienced Intermediate or Senior Architectural Technologist to join their busy and collaborative team in Edmonton, Alberta. This company is well established and have a lot of projects in the post secondary, mixed use, civic, community and public/institutional sectors.

THE JOB
The ideal applicant will have excellent communication skills and work with team members throughout all processes of the project phases. You will be working with clients and design teams to discuss project plans, designs, schedules and proposals, and work according to these to produce high quality working drawing packages, construction documents, details and blueprints. You will use your experience to pier review the work of junior staff in the office, and do mark ups and changes to ensure projects are finished accurately and in a timely manner.

WHAT'S REQUIRED
The ideal candidate will have the following credentials;

  • Architectural Technology Diploma/Certification or relevant architecture degree required
  • 5+ years' experience as an Architectural Technologist in a design based firm
  • Experience working with Revit is essential
  • Experience working with other softwares such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office is an asset
  • Some Project management and CA experience is desirable
  • Experience working on large and complex projects

We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Technical Architectural Designer  to join our Store Planning team. In this role, you will play a key part in preparing technical drawings and interior layout details for our retail stores, ensuring compliance with design standards, landlord requirements, and local building regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare detailed technical drawings for retail store interiors using AutoCAD.
  • Implement pre-approved design concepts into assigned interior spaces (non-load-bearing construction).
  • Apply and ensure compliance with landlord design criteria and Level of Detail (LOD) requirements.
  • Produce drawings required for building permit applications.
  • Perform material take-offs and calculate required quantities.
  • Prepare documentation for fixture and equipment procurement.
  • Ensure construction drawings accurately reflect brand book guidelines and design team directives, and that final IFC, IFT, and IFP drawing sets are consistent and ready for the project management team.
  • Coordinate with external consultants to ensure alignment with brand standards.

  • Work closely with internal teams (IT, Loss Prevention, Marketing, Visual Merchandising) to ensure full coordination across all build aspects.
  • Oversee external drafting consultants to ensure accuracy and compliance with design requirements.
  • Participate in project planning with design and project management teams.
  • Ensure drawing sets align with project budgets and timelines.
  • Respond quickly to site-related issues and propose effective solutions.
  • Maintain and update standard layout blocks and drafting configurations.
  • Manage and keep the brand’s technical documentation and file directories up to date.
Qualifications

  • 5–7 years of experience in retail construction drawing production (including space planning of individual stores)
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and 3D rendering tools (Photoshop, InDesign, SketchUp)
  • Knowledge of MS Office products
  • Demonstrates strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Can manage multiple priorities and tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Position Overview

The Store Design & Construction Manager will be tasked with managing the design work and project execution through all phases of UNIQLO’s new store development. This individual is responsible for end to end project management from giving timely input on feasibility of projects until handover to the store management team (including but not limited to store layout, budget, schedules, coordination/communication with landlord, real estate teams, etc.

Job Description :

  • Manage Design work and project execution through all phases.
  • Understand Uniqlo store layout criteria, scope, and requirements.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, and ensure landlord handover conditions meet Uniqlo's standards in collaboration with the real estate team.
  • Answer requests from Legal Team when setting up new leases, to make sure construction criteria are properly established
  • Select GC and architect for each project after evaluating proposals that include project plans, costs, and qualifications. 
  • Ensure and review general contractor’s detailed project plans and deliverables, including clear permitting processes and timelines
  • Ensure design and construction documents from architects and meet all Uniqlo operation needs, after finalizing store layouts with management.
  • Ensure timely delivery of all owner furnishing items for project completion, collaborating closely with relevant team leads.
  • Promptly escalate timing and quality issues to prevent time and cost overruns.
  • Lead site walkthroughs through the entire project lifecycle, from initial costing through final handover to the store team. Identify risks related to time and budget, resolve all on-site issues, and ensure seamless delivery.
  • Ensure budget, timeline, quality, and safety are all delivered for each project.
  • Work together with store design team and local architect to solve issues on site.
  • Understand all local code requirements and make sure all vendors deliver accordingly.
  • Execute final inspection working together with construction manager before handover to store operation team to ensure code requirement, UQ quality requirement and maintenance requirement is provided.
  • Lead post-project analyses and discussions. Identify opportunities and strive for continual process improvement.
  • Explain all variances to budget and timeline, as needed. Make sure to focus on root causes and resolving actions. Own the responsibility.
  • Ensure timely approval and payment of all invoices, working with the Store Development Management Control team.
  • Other reasonable duties as assigned.

Desired Skills and Experiences :

  • Project management experience, ideally in both construction and design
  • Minimum of 5 years in a similar position within Canada retail industry or PM in Architect firm, GC
  • Prior training as a PM in the construction industry is required (Certification of architect or PM preferred)
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects at varying stages of complexity simultaneously
  • Multicultural work experience and work background

Our client is leading one of the most exciting and largest infrastructure projects in Canada. They are moving the project from conceptual design to spades in the ground in 2030 and are looking to add an experienced leader to augment their current engineering team. This strategic advisor will have led the design and construction for a significant infrastructure project, have years of operational experience and can bring another level of thinking and insight to the organization. The interim will develop and advise senior management on strategies for optimizing technical and operational programs and will then execute these strategies into the project.


A key focus area will be advancing the Project design, construction, and cost management. Developing and executing strategies/plans to ensure the design and construction schedule is realistic, properly funded, and associated risks identified, and mitigation strategies established; as well as identify areas of potential innovation or savings in the long-term. This will require providing direct review, oversight, and guidance to various engineering and finance stakeholders within the organization and their vendor partners.


Key Accountabilities:

  • Accountable for leading critical confidential projects and initiatives.
  • Assess the current lifecycle cost estimate and provide key insights to the Chief Engineer.
  • Lead innovation for the function across the project to optimize cost efficiencies.
  • Support the transition of the engineering team to the collaborative contracting model.
  • Assess the current structure of the engineering function, scope out future state needs for the project and how to scale up the function.
  • Define and present business cases to realistically drive cost out of the project lifecycle.
  • Provide strategic advice and guidance to the organization’s leadership team on various planning activities including strategies for optimizing technical and operational activities and programs.
  • Develop and executive strategies to incorporate industry innovations, emerging technologies and policy developments into the project.
  • Demonstrate leadership by adopting and reinforcing cultural behaviors including commitment to the management system. Take ownership of applicable governing documents ensuring they address relevant regulatory, legislative, and business requirements; are effectively implemented and used as designed. Hold staff accountable for procedural compliance; and seek opportunities to continuously improve.
  • Establish positive working relationships with external groups/stakeholders, regulatory bodies and agencies and cooperate in exchange of information and data as required to meet project objectives.
  • Participate in Executive Committee meetings and support Board related activities as required.
  • Establish and execute short- and long-term business plans and strategies to meet organizational and project objectives.
  • Retain and oversee contractors to support projects and programs.
  • Provide directions to departmental staff, establish clear roles and responsibilities and annual performance objectives as well as provide regular performance feedback, coaching and training.
  • Support a strong safety culture by ensuring activities and programs meet or exceed the health, safety and environmental requirements as outlined in the organization’s policies, procedures and standards.

Qualifications & Education:

  • A four-year university education or equivalent level education, preferably in an engineering, construction, or business discipline.
  • Over 12 years of experience in engineering, construction, and/or business which is broad enough to have covered all the core accountabilities detailed above.
  • Expertise in large capex infrastructure construction projects in the energy, municipal, or transportation sectors with demonstrated oversight and expertise in project and contract planning, and management.
  • Expertise in/comprehensive knowledge of strategic planning and project management skills related to design engineering and construction (e.g., Front-End loading or Front-End Engineering Design to Preliminary/Basis to Detailed Design phase progression, construction and commissioning phase)
  • Expertise in design cost estimation and construction cost control/oversight.
  • Demonstrated contract management experience.
  • Proven experience on complex, multi-stakeholder projects.
  • Experience working with Boards and Committees or other senior leadership.
  • Expertise in large capex mining or infrastructure construction projects.
  • Expertise working in a multi-party (3+) Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), Alliance, or Engineering Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) arrangement.
  • Expertise in construction procurement and strategies around long-lead items, equipment, etc.

About the Role:

We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented BIM & CAD Technician to support our electrical engineering team in Vancouver.   • Electrical Systems Design Support: Work closely with electrical engineers to develop Revit models and CAD drawings for power, lighting, fire alarm, and communications systems, etc.
  • Collaboration: Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, and other design professionals to ensure accurate integration of electrical systems within the building design when required.
  • Documentation & Detailing: Prepare clear and accurate construction documents, including electrical plans, single-line diagrams, circuiting, panel schedules, and equipment schedules.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all designs and drawings comply with relevant codes, standards, and client requirements. Review work for consistency, accuracy, and completeness.
  • Project Coordination: Assist with coordinating and preparing project deliverables, including submittals and revisions, ensuring all deadlines are met.
  • Modelling & Clash Detection: Conduct clash detection within the BIM model and address any conflicts between electrical systems and other disciplines.
  • Drafting Standards & Procedures: Assist in the implementation and maintenance of drafting standards and practices within the company, ensuring consistency and efficiency in all project models and drawings.
  • Other duties assigned as necessary.

Minimum Requirements:


  • Minimum 2 to 5 years of experience using Revit 2018 or a later version in a professional workplace and AutoCAD
