Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Maintenance Supervisor with an emphasis on mechanical building systems to join our team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in managing and maintaining heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, refrigeration systems, and heat exchangers in a hotel environment. This role requires a proactive individual with strong leadership skills to oversee maintenance staff, coordinate preventative maintenance, and ensure compliance with safety standards.

Salary Range : $65,000 - $70,000 per annum based on experience. 

What you will be doing:   

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Supervise and lead a team of maintenance technicians, providing guidance, training, and support.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of mechanical building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, refrigeration, and heat exchangers.
  • Plan and execute preventative maintenance schedules to ensure optimal performance and longevity of mechanical systems.
  • Utilize CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) to track maintenance activities, spare parts, and schedules.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical equipment to minimize downtime and disruptions to hotel operations.
  • Collaborate with hotel management to address any maintenance challenges or improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations and standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, inspections, and services performed.
  • Coordinate with external contractors for specialized maintenance services when necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Your experience and skills include:

  • Journeyman Plumber, Refrigeration Technician, or Millwright certification with relevant experience.
  • Proven experience in a maintenance supervisory role, preferably in a hotel or similar environment.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, refrigeration, and heat exchangers.
  • Experience with preventative maintenance strategies and CMMS is essential.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and after-hours as needed.
  • Proficiency in maintenance management software is an asset.

Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Building Systems Technician (Plumbing) is responsible for plumbing, maintenance (preventative, corrective and immediate repair) and mechanical work. This position works as part of a team, and cross-training/maintenance work outside of the primary plumbing trade is expected. Examples of work outside of the primary plumbing trade include snow removal, moving furniture and event set-up.
**Specific Duties and Accountabilities**
Installs, repairs and maintains plumbing and heating-related devices such as but not limited to pumps, water distribution piping, valves, fixtures, back flow preventers and drainage interceptors.
Regularly reacts to plumbing emergencies, including but not limited to leaks, clogged drains and heating repairs.
Performs preventive maintenance tasks on designated plumbing and heating-related equipment.
Makes recommendations for upgrading plumbing systems based on best economical/professional judgement.
Performs routine maintenance checks on building systems including but not limited to inspection, maintenance and replacement of belts/filters.
Carries out preventative maintenance and minor repairs to mechanical systems as required.
Performs all duties in accordance with the Nova Scotia Occupational Health & Safety Act, as well as university and government rules and regulations.
Maintains a clean work environment in the Facilities Shop and in the areas of all work projects.
Assists outside contractors/Dalhousie with steam heat system problems.
On call duties 24 hours per day, 7 days per week on rotation.
Performs other related duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager.

We're looking for a Mechanical Systems Engineer  to support the development of mechanical designs and engineering systems across various products and programs within the organization.

As a member of this team, you will work collaboratively to develop high quality component, subsystem, and system designs capable of withstanding the harsh environmental conditions typical of military platforms.

You should possess a strong aptitude for problem-solving through the application of engineering principles in a multidisciplinary environment. A team oriented mindset and focus on achieving positive outcomes are essential.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support the full product design life cycle from requirements definition and concept development through to production ramp-up. This includes prototype procurement, assembly, design verification and qualification testing, and ongoing manufacturing support.
  • Collaborate with Systems Engineers and Senior Mechanical Engineers to review, derive, and verify mechanical and environmental requirements from higher level system requirements.
  • Translate requirements to designers and review designs/drawings to ensure compliance.
  • Ensure your work adheres to integrated product design and specified requirements.
  • Provide technical direction on the creation of mechanical concepts, designs, and drawings of electronic enclosures and other mechanical systems for rugged environments using tools such as 3D solid modeling and simulation software.
  • Apply sound engineering principles to maintain high design quality.
  • Work closely with other design professionals (e.g., PCB Designers, Hardware Engineers, Systems Engineers), Supply Chain Management, and Manufacturing Engineering to ensure a smooth project workflow.
  • Deliver presentations at internal design reviews and other peer, management, or customer reviews.
  • Perform environmental engineering tests—such as thermal cycling, vibration, and shock in the test lab for both qualification and design verification purposes.
  • Support Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations.
  • Provide technical assistance to Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), especially during the transition to production.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing to develop and refine Assembly Methods Instructions (AMIs).
  • Review and approve Product Data Changes and the supporting justification data.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on design quality and efficiency.
  • Mentor and review the work of junior designers.
  • Stay informed on the latest technologies, products, and market trends relevant to your area of work.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Science, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical design or systems development.
  • Experience with environmental testing (thermal, vibration, shock) and use of test equipment.
  • Strong analytical skills in structural, dynamics and thermal analysis
  • Working Knowledge in:
    • finite element analysis tools and techniques
    • Manufacturing processes and design for manufacturing and assembly

  • Knowledge of computer systems and software such as Office Suite
  • The ability to be flexible with regards to work location and work schedule is a must, including the ability to travel away from home

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with others
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and tact
  • Ability to plan, organize and manage work with minimal supervision and complete assigned duties accurately and within timelines
  • Physically capable of performing required duties and ability to work in all weather conditions

WHAT'S THE JOB?

Dexterra on Demand, Toronto Controls and Mechanical Division, has an opening for a dynamic Estimator and Project Coordinator to generate estimating proposals for inside and outside sales, and provide building controls/ Mechanical installation and maintenance and repair servicing support to a growing division. The hybrid role enables an experienced Small Works Estimator/coordinator to provide more strategic support to generate and nurture new sales leads and grow existing accounts.

Our unique focus is to deliver evidence-driven solutions and services to improve the value of buildings in energy, indoor air quality and comfort. We developed our version of “on-demand ventilation” that utilizes values from indoor air quality sensors to optimize air quality, as well as greater energy efficiency.

  • We are seeking an Estimator and Small Works coordinator who is interested in growing the capabilities and market share of a 40-year Building Controls/HVAC  company with a strong foundation.
  • Generate estimates for BAS/HVAC equipment for new building construction, existing building retrofits, upgrades, repairs and services for inside and outside sales proposals
  • Project Management or Project Coordination experience of small mechanical projects is a bonus
  • Review Requests for Qualification (RFQ), Requests for Proposal (RFP), addenda, and all other contractual documents
  • Assist as required with statement of qualification packages, proposals & request for clarifications / addenda
  • Prepare and participate in meetings with clients, joint venture partners and consultants and pre-tender meetings as required
  • Prepare work breakdown structures, quantity takeoffs, and requests for quotes
  • Lead and participate in the preliminary and final cost estimates
  • Participate in the development and growth of Toronto Building Controls division with emphasis on evidence-driven solutions and services
  • Actively participates in sales meetings, workshops and seminars, and support inside and outside sales capabilities
Qualifications

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • Minimum of 6 months experience in estimating BAS or Mechanical work
  • Bilingual French and English is a bonus
  • Superior time management and organization skills
  • A valid Driver’s License in good standing
  • Must be willing and able to cover the following territory: southern Ontario
  • Strong English verbal and written communication skills
  • Energy efficiency audit work experience is a bonus
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada and achieve Security clearance for sites
  • Hybrid work location

As the IntermediateElectrical Systems Developer ,you will be assisting our product applications and development team implement electrical systems via designing, testing, developing and maintaining electrical systems.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead the design, and development of hardware components relating to circuits, enclosures, wiring for challenging environments
  • Conduct calculations and analysis in support for electronic designs
  • Review and develop PCB layouts for hardware applications
  • Design and implement engineering schematic designs and/or changes with respect to control systems hardware and software including
  • Sourcing and integrating 3rd party components into overall system design
  • Select and validate suitable sensors, actuators and electronic components for system integration.
  • Complete technical and project administrative documentation using JIRA, Confluence, Word, etc.
  • Perform on-site control system and locomotive commissioning at globally located rail yards
  • Provide technical and customer support for product applications


Who you are:

  • 4+ years of system integration experience
  • A related degree inElectrical, Mechatronics, Control or Electronic
  • Experienced performing FMEAs
  • Experience with electrical or battery storage systems is an asset
  • Solid understanding of electrical schematics and development
  • Knowledge of available off-the-shelf power systems, sensors, electromechanical devices, digital and analog electronics.
  • Collaborative, and strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work cross functional teams
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills
  • Potential ability to travel internationally

SUMMARY:

This role possesses knowledge of the structure and function of production equipment and is able to identify problems and malfunctions with the machinery and equipment.  The role involves operating and maintaining production equipment, identifying and troubleshooting mechanical issues, and performing manufacturing and assembly tasks. It also emphasizes safety, efficiency, and familiarity with production procedures.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certification and licensing to operate forklift is strongly preferred
  • Previous experience in factory or warehouse setting is recommended
  • Demonstrates ability to interpret equipment gauges and monitors on factory equipment
  • Possesses knowledge of the structure and function of production equipment
  • Able to identify problems or malfunctions with machinery and equipment
  • Demonstrates analytical thinking and problem-solving skills necessary to troubleshoot production issues
  • Exhibits ability to work cautiously but efficiently in potentially hazardous conditions
  • Is familiar with all factory safety procedures and guidelines
  • Demonstrates ability to use power tools safely and effectively

  • Starts assembly and production machinery at beginning of shift
  • Monitors & maintains equipment to ensure there in proper working order
  • Makes sure that workstation is clean and free of hazardous materials
  • Cleans equipment
  • Assembles product parts by hand, power tools
  • Use of power tools such as a band saw, drill press, iron worker
  • Inspects assembled products to ensure they are up to quality standards
  • Keeps factory floor clean
  • Light manufacturing assembly
  • Adheres to all safety guidelines dictation the production and handling of materials in the factory
  • Ensures that all production deadlines are met
  • Reports issues or problems with production to immediate supervisor
