3M is seeking a Environmental Specialist for its EHS team located in Brockville, ON.

**The Impact You'll Make in this Role**
In this position, you will develop and support custom 3M manufacturing execution systems in an end-to-end automated manufacturing process. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
+ Maintaining federal, provincial, and municipal regulatory environmental requirements including:
+ National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI) Reporting
+ Maintaining and submitting Air Permit (EASR and ECA) renewals and updates
+ Ensuring waste disposition methods, and waste reduction planning
+ Managing storm & sanitary water requirements including sampling
+ Developing and leading site-specific Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety initiatives to reduce/eliminate any environmental risk to our environment and our community.
+ Assessing new and changing processes and equipment for environmental impact with opportunity to research, plan and execute such projects.
+ Leading environmental related incident investigations to determine causal factors and root causes along with identify appropriate corrective actions to reduce risk and prevent reoccurrence.
+ Creating and maintaining site training content and programs while contributing to departmental operating procedures and training in the areas of Environmental Health and Safety.
+ Take a lead coordinator role in the sites ISO 14001 Environmental Management System where you will host regular audits, maintain certification, and facilitate management steering team meetings. As part of this responsibility, the successful candidate will directly influence the site's environmental footprint and initiatives to minimize impact to air, waste, and water.
+ Identifying and addressing environmental and health and safety concerns in a high paced manufacturing environment working towards a more environmentally sustainable operation.
+ Actively supporting EHS Cultural Excellence through personal responsibility for safety, health, and environment, promoting a culture to identify and address incidents, near-misses, and potential hazards.
+ Partnering with the various worker groups including production workers, technical support staff (engineering, maintenance), management, as well as vendors and consultants.
**Basic Qualifications:**
Candidates with the following qualifications will be in a strong position for immediate success in this role:
+ Bachelor's degree in Environmental/Chemical Engineering, or Environmental Science
+ Three (3) years of previous experience in an Environmental and/or Health and Safety roles in a manufacturing environment
+ Working knowledge of Federal, Provincial and Local Regulations related to the environment
+ Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act of Ontario
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
+ Degree or diploma in Environmental Studies or Occupational Health and Safety
+ Professional Certification(s) such as: Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP)
+ Mechanical aptitude for equipment design and operational understanding

The Environmental Specialist will be tasked with implementing the Prime Contractor's environmental management program for marine-based scopes of work and ensuring subcontractor compliance with applicable management plans and regulatory requirements. The Environmental Specialist will be responsible for liaising with subcontractor environment and construction teams, the development and implementation of environmental mitigation measures, and coordination of environmental monitoring resources. The role is site-based on a 14/7 rotation and will periodically be required to perform night shift rotations to support site operations.

+ Lead the environmental compliance for a project or district.
+ Identify, assess and reduce environmental risks to the company.

**Job Description**
Summary:
Provide leadership, technical guidance and support to the EHS team as well as internal and external clients on EHS matters. Provide EHS support to operations, and Pharmaceutical Development Services (PDS). Establish standard procedures for the site, exchange expertise with other sites and ensure site is following EHS regulations and practices.
Essential Functions:
· Maintain a safe working environment and report potential hazards.
· Act as deputy to the Site EHS Lead for supervision of the EHS Department.
· Coach and mentor members of the EHS Team.
· Lead the creation and integration of EHS programs and management systems.
· Collaborate with internal partners and site leadership as required to gain support and ensure compliance.
· Lead all facets of the Environmental Program at the site:
o National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI) reporting.
o New Substance Notification Regulation (NSNR) substance tracking and submissions.
o Dangerous goods shipping and guidance on regulations.
o Waste management programs including waste audits and reduction work plans.
o Waste water discharge and compliance with Sewer Use By-law.
o Environmental Compliance Approval tracking and reporting.
· Provide Health and Safety support in the following areas:
o Incident investigations.
o JHSC or Client audit finding closures.
o Risk assessments.
o Develop and conduct EHS training: orientation, monthly safety talk and department specific training.
o Respiratory Fit-Testing.
o Conduct new equipment reviews and inspections.
o LOTO (Lock Out and Tag Out) Program and Machine Guarding Program.
o Combustible Dust Hazard Assessment and Management.
o Ergonomic Assessment or Solutions.
· New Project Risk Assessments
o Attend Kick-Off Meetings and ongoing Project Meetings.
o Evaluate containment/industrial hygiene controls for new projects.
o Potent Compound active-specific procedures and training.
o Liaise with Project Managers, Process Engineers and Clients.
· Provide guidance, back-up and support to other EHS team members and Health Centre.
· Lead or participate in EHS audits and/or investigations with regulatory bodies, Clients and Corporate representatives.
· Implement Global EHS Standards and complete regulatory and/or corporate reporting as the need arises.
· Perform alternating or rotating shift work (as required).
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
· BSc in Occupational Health and Safety or in a related field.
· Professional Designation -Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
Experience:
· Minimum 8 years of EHS experience in Chemical, manufacturing, or pharmaceutical industry
· Minimum 5 years of Environmental training/experience
· Previous experience conducting presentations / training for various levels within an organization and client or project management experience.
Equivalency:
Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

**What are your contributions to the team?**
+ Monitor and review declarable chemical substances list under environmental regulations in Canada, U.S., E.U., Asia and other countries that impact the use of chemicals in Bombardier Aviation products.
+ Represent Bombardier in International Environment Associations (e.g. IAEG) in the area of materials and substances declaration, authorization and restriction.

Reporting to the AVP, Manager Environmental, you will be responsible for managing and growing a profitable portfolio of complex environmental risks, under limited direction, utilizing The Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework within delegated authority levels on highly complex assignments ensuring a high level service to customers.

**What you will do**
- Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities, effectively and efficiently handling incoming submissions as well as soliciting business through pipelining.
- Measure exposure/analyze complex environmental risk across a diverse range of industry classes, including manufacturing, real estate, construction, and energy.
- Review and synthesize the findings of environmental due diligence (Phase Is, Phase II Environmental Site Assessments etc.), with the ability to profitably underwrite known and unknown pollution conditions in the determination of coverage terms.
- Pre-qualify accounts to meet with the organization's LoB-specific and overall appetite, using a solution-oriented approach to profitably meet the customer's needs.
- Assist as a subject-matter expert in product development and craft the initial drafts of manuscript forms. Contribute to development of u/w manuals, programs and guidelines.
- Regularly initiate and lead in-person visits with brokers, customers, and as well as internal stakeholders with a planned and well-prepared purpose, in order to further existing relationships and develop new ones.
- Identify and initiate opportunities for risk engineering, attending on-site surveys in collaboration with Zurich Risk Resilience engineers, and skillfully synthesizing the survey findings in Terms & Conditions.
- Negotiate Terms & Conditions with a high degree of skill, actively following through on current opportunities to close the deal and welcome further opportunities.
- Exemplify a OneZurich philosophy by collaborating with other lines of business to cross-sell and increase product density, supporting colleagues across different business units.
- Actively participate in team meetings, exhibiting behaviours that promote the well-being of self and teammates.
- Show accountability in good data hygiene, ensuring data associated with accounts are accurate and complete.
- Work effectively with all stakeholders to achieve operational metrics, including timely and accurate issuance and coding of policy transactions.

**Job Qualifications - What you bring to the table**
Required:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area. (ADD POP addendum)
OR
- High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
OR
- Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area (ADD POP addendum)
OR
- Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
AND
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
- Experience working in a team environment
Preferred:
- Bachelor's Degree, majoring in Life or Environmental Sciences, or Chemical/Environmental Engineering
- 5-7 years in an Environmental Underwriting or Broking role
