Reporting to the Plant Operations Manager, this is a hands on role to manage, prepare, maximize and track all plant inventory, shipping and receiving functions. This position has direct influence on company revenue and profitability. The S/R Supervisor will be accountable for assigning shipping schedules, maximizing shipping density, on time departures, accurate paperwork, and transport of dangerous goods, inventory control, managing shipping and receiving functions along with triaging of received material. Shift – 9:30 a.m. - 6:00 pm  RESPONSIBILITIES: * Oversees incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments * Coordinates with the production planner, production supervisors and other shop personnel to meet plant objectives * Fosters positive working relationships. Responds proactively to performance concerns, discipline, employee complaints, and other employee relations matters * Plans, organizes, and supervises the shipping function, ensuring timely and efficient delivery of finished goods to the end customer * Provides supervision, training in SOP’s, scheduling, and guidance to shipping/ receiving employees * Create and reconcile all receiving and delivery transactions in SAP and all required documents associated with each shipment to required standards * Determines method of shipment and books appointments within a defined list of carriers, prepares bills of lading, invoices and other shipping documents. Creates and hands off complete and appropriate documentation to all parties including drivers * Ensures that the team complies with plant health and safety requirements and ensures proper methods and standard operating procedures are followed to meet quality, safety, environment standards * Conducts inventory counts as required and be responsible for accuracy of inventory and security of it * Supervises, trains and reviews performance of shipping/receiving and inventory staff (approx 7 people) * Ensures compliance with regulatory programs and customers regarding the classification of incoming material, standard tare weights, scale calibration and verification, the use of proper codes and ERP system to track and confirm weights, etc. * Recommends measures to improve quality of service, increasing efficiency of department and work crew and equipment performance. * Manage shipping/receiving requirement in the afternoon shift * Drive forklift when required * Other duties as assigned JOB REQUIREMENTS: * Minimum 3-5 years experience in Shipping & Receiving and inventory control, ideally in a distribution centre and/or manufacturing environment of which at least 2 years spent supervising a team * Ability to work in a fast paced environment with frequent deadlines * Strong team player and works in unison with the other operations team members to achieve corporate goals * Experience using SAP and MS Office * Highly detail oriented and ensures accuracy of data and shipping paperwork * Demonstrated aptitude and ability to understand and comply with Transport of Dangerous Goods (TDG) requirements and documentation regulations incl. intraprovincial, interprovincial and international shipments * Must be a self-starter with effective planning and organizing skills to manage priorities and complete tasks efficiently and effectively * Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others and communicate clearly (verbal and written) * Should have a valid forklift license (1-2 years of Forklift experience)

  • Supervising the Barrie Operations team in their day-to-day activities, including:
    1. Arranging transport of import and export FTL and LTL shipments within and between Canada and the USA
    2. Negotiating rates with Carriers
    3. Quoting Customers
    4. Tracking shipments
    5. Communicating shipment details with customers and agents
    6. Submitting documents to Customs Brokers
    7. Arranging local pickups and deliveries
    8. Calculating revenue and costs on shipment files
  • Set clear expectations for efficiency, accuracy, and proactive problem-solving in all aspects of the transport of operations including and not limited to routing of shipments, support and communication with problem shipments and timely billing
  • Participate in the development and implementation of KPI goals, objectives, policies, and priorities of the operations department as per Management direction
  • Coach, mentor, and support team members in achieving and exceeding KPIs, performance goals, and customer service standards
  • Monitor individual and team performance, providing regular feedback, coaching, and performance management to drive continuous improvement

  • 10+ years of transportation or freight forwarding experience required

  • Determine method of shipment and arrange shipping; prepare bills of lading, customs forms, invoices, and other shipping documents manually or by computer.

  • Assemble containers and crates, record contents manually or by computer, pack goods to be shipped, and affix identifying information and shipping instructions.

  • Oversee loading and unloading of goods from trucks or other conveyances

  • Inspect and verify incoming goods against invoices or other documents, record shortages and reject damaged goods.

  • Unpack, code and route goods to appropriate storage areas

  • Maintain internal, manual, or computerized record-keeping systems

  • Operate forklift, hand truck, or other equipment to load, unload,
    transport and store goods.

  • Experience in a related clerical occupation or as a warehouse worker may be
    required.

  • Strategically coordinate route plans and personnel to ensure on-time and efficient delivery.
  • Driving improvements through monitoring KPIs and planned vs. actual reviews.
  • Validating orders prior to delivery.
  • Maintaining accurate records and performing progress updates.
  • Developing team members to excel in their duties.
  • Engage with production teams to accommodate changing schedules
  • Assemble inventory or customer orders
  • Communicating delivery schedules and changes to customers and production
  • Assist production with order completion after 5 p.m.
  • May perform duties of the team being supervised.
