Position Summary:

The Catering Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the execution of catered events at the Penticton Trade and Convention Center, from the initial setup through to the seamless execution and post-event wrap-up. This role extends to engaging service in the premium seating areas of the South Okanagan Event Centre. We're looking for a dynamic individual who thrives in a vibrant, fast-paced environment and brings a friendly, approachable demeanor to every interaction. In addition to overseeing events, the Catering Supervisor supports our Restaurant and Catering Manager and Assistant Manager, diving into a variety of projects. The Catering Supervisor must maintain excellent attendance and be available to work events as scheduled per business needs.

This role will pay an hourly rate of $20.00-$25.00 CAD and is tip eligible

Benefits for Part-Time roles: Pension matching

The Penticton Trade and Convention Centre provides the perfect venue for conventions, special events, trade and consumer shows, banquets and meetings in Penticton, BC. Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for overseeing the service of meals to guests or directing guests to the buffet line.
  • Responsible for serving beverages to guests including alcoholic beverages. Must check guest's ID to verify minimum age requirement for the purchase of alcoholic beverages.
  • Responsible for assisting in recording a guest's order and relaying the order to the kitchen via P.O.S. system.
  • Responsible for observing guests to respond to any additional requests and determine when the meal has been completed.
  • Responsible for computing the cost of the meal and presenting the guest with the check. Accept payments and provide change as necessary.
  • Responsible for ensuring tableware and linens replaced as necessary.
  • Recommends certain dishes and identifies ingredients or explains how various items on the menu are prepared.
  • Assists in setting up banquet functions including linens, dishware, glassware and silverware.
  • Maintains sanitation, health and safety standards in work areas.
  • Must show demonstrated ability to meet the company standard for excellent attendance.
  • Assures that the location equipment is operable and clean prior to start of event.
  • Responsible for recognizing guests that are visibly intoxicated and taking action to cut off alcohol to such individuals.
  • Assists Management team with projects including training, inventory and special events.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to communicate with employees, co-workers, volunteers, management staff and guests in a clear, business-like and respectful manner which focuses on generating a positive, enthusiastic and cooperative work environment.
  • Ability to speak, read and write in English.
  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented, fast-paced, event-driven environment.
  • Possess a valid food handling certificate and alcohol service permit if required by provincial or federal regulations.
  • Ability to handle cash accurately and responsibly.
  • Ability to calculate basic math functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages) as they relate to POS cash/credit transactions, cash reconciliation and product inventory.
  • Experience working in a supervisory capacity in a fast-paced restaurant or catering environment.

As the Event Operations Supervisor, you will:
  • Supervise events both on-site and off-site, ensuring flawless execution of banquet event orders (BEOs).

  • Lead by example: demonstrate outstanding guest service, adaptability, and strong leadership while coaching and supporting your team.

  • Ensure event schedules and timelines are followed, maintaining clear communication with servers and event staff.

  • Act as a host and ambassador for the venue, liaising between guests, management, and team members.

  • Build rapport with guests, answer questions, and ensure satisfaction throughout the event.

  • Manage administrative tasks such as scheduling, as well as opening and closing duties.

  • Inspire and motivate team members to create extraordinary guest experiences.

  • Perform other duties as required to ensure seamless events.


Qualifications:
  • 2 - 3 years in a Supervisory role within catering and/or special events

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Hospitality or Event Management education/experience is an asset.

  • Banquet serving experience an asset.

  • Smart Serve Certification (required).

  • G-class driver’s license (required).

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, and weekends.

We are looking for a Full-Time Food Service Supervisor to join our enthusiastic team at Southbridge Cornwall.

Reporting to the Food Service Manager, the Food Service Supervisor will work in conjunction with FSM to ensure the smooth running of all the operations of the food service department. They will work to ensure the nutritional needs of our beloved residents are met. The FSS will be jointly responsible for inventory management, meal/snack plans, human resource management, kitchen operations, clinical nutrition, and all other aspects of the Food Services department.

  • RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plan, organize and provide high-quality dietary services for residents of each facility.
  • Apply continuous quality improvement principles, best practices, and standardization to workflow, performance, production, and changes to service and dietary requirements to meet legislative requirements.
  • Select, supervise and motivate dietary staff; ensure dietary staff works as a team, ensure a high level of productivity and better use of staff capabilities.
  • Ensure the environment of all food preparation and storage areas meets Public Health requirements.
  • Maintain all records in accordance with policies, procedures, and legislative requirements, including the implementation and posting of all regular and therapeutic menus.
  • Liaise and consult with residents, families, team members, government officials, and professionals in relation to resident care needs and department activities
  • Participate in the budgeting process; is accountable for the departmental budget and food costs.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current membership in the Canadian Society of Nutritional Management (C.S.N.M.) or a Registered Dietician required
  • Post-secondary education in dietary management and the successful completion of a recognized Food Services Program.
  • Minimum 2 years dietary management experience in a long-term care setting.
  • Member of a recognized Food Service Supervisor's Association.
  • Strong leadership skills to direct the work of employees.
  • Superb organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Experience managing employees within a unionized setting.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety practices, principles, and legislation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.
  • Customer-focused with a high emphasis on building and maintaining relationships with clients.

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary certificate or diploma in Accounting, or a related course
  • Post secondary education related to payroll administration or related experience is an asset
  • 3+ years of experience in a similar position with working knowledge of general office operations
  • Experience in Long Term Care with utilization of Point Click Care is an asset but not required
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, ability to work in a fast-paced environment and have exceptional time management skills
