POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Controller, the Chief Accountant will be responsible for supervising a team of accountants. He or she will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of financial reports and ensuring their timely delivery. They will also act as a liaison with the regional managers in their region, maintaining effective communication between accounting and operations.
The incumbent must be organized and have proven multitasking, problem-solving, and workload prioritization skills. They will be required to analyze multiple files simultaneously, consistently delivering the same high-quality interpretation and reporting, while meeting tight deadlines. The incumbent will be responsible for the reliability and accuracy of all accounting information for each property under their management.
ROLE AND GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assign, monitor and supervise the accounting team in all bookkeeping or general accounting activities
- Collect the financial information necessary for sound management
- Coordinate the month-end process to ensure monthly deadlines are met
- Ensure compliance with internal controls in order to maintain a high level of reliability and compliance, in accordance with applicable tax laws and regulations
- Maintain excellent business relationships with stakeholders
- Review, analyze and approve the monthly financial statements of the shopping centers under his management (review of balance sheet items and variance analysis of results)
- Support team members and work with all other departments
- Take charge of recruiting accountants for your team
- Bachelor's degree in accounting
- Minimum of 3 years in accounting (experience in staff supervision, an asset)
- Bilingual (French/English)
- Knowledge of Hopem software (an asset)
- Advanced knowledge of Excel

As Chief Accountant for the US , you will be responsible for all financial and accounting operations of the US entities, ensuring compliance with Group standards and supporting strategic financial initiatives.
You will manage reporting, controls, processes, and a small team, while working closely with the Group CFO and the broader international finance community.
Key Responsibilities
· Oversee all accounting operations , including general ledger, monthly closings, intercompany transactions, and revenue recognition.
· Produce timely and accurate financial statements and internal reports .
· Ensure compliance with US GAAP and internal policies.
· Manage cash flow forecasting and daily treasury operations.
· Lead invoicing, receivables, and payables processes .
· Coordinate payroll in collaboration with HR and external providers.
· Support audit processes and liaise with external auditors.
· Optimize accounting systems and processes, including use of SAGE and other tools.
· Supervise and mentor accounting staff, promoting a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.
· Administration and oversight of the 401K plan , which includes reporting and audit responsibilities.
· Accounting and management of the real estate companies, including filing county and state level reports.
· Managing the insurance portfolio (workers comp, general liability and property) and ensuring sufficient coverage for current and future revenue streams and activities.
Qualifications· Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred.
· Prior experience as a Chief Accountant or equivalent leadership role in accounting.
· Strong knowledge of US GAAP and exposure to IFRS.
· Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
· At least 5 years of experience in audit, ideally within a Big Four or equivalent.
· Ability to manage multiple entities and work under pressure.
· Experience with accounting systems (SAGE is a plus) and advanced Excel skills.
· Team player with strong initiative and attention to detail.
