About the Opportunity

Lauren Services is seeking a highly motivated Civil/Structural Project Engineer to support a client in the utility and energy sector on a 1-year term basis with the possibility of extension.

The successful candidate will report to a Senior Civil Engineer and will be responsible for supporting the development and execution of civil/structural project scopes. The role offers flexible hours (2040 hours per week) and will require travel for site visits within the Kootenay and Okanagan regions.

This opportunity is open only to registered Professional Engineers (P.Eng.) who either reside in the Trail, BC area, within a reasonable proximity to the service territory, or are willing to relocate.

Key Responsibilities

• Support project development and execution of civil/structural scopes across multiple infrastructure and utility projects.
• Conduct site visits, assess existing infrastructure, and provide engineering recommendations.
• Prepare and review technical documents, including reports, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Coordinate with internal teams, external consultants, and contractors to deliver project objectives.
• Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, regulations, and client specifications.
• Assist with construction oversight, including site inspections and quality assurance monitoring.
• Contribute to project planning activities, scheduling, and risk management related to civil/structural deliverables.

Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in good standing in British Columbia (mandatory).

**Your Key Responsibilities**
Land development is a complex endeavor that requires understanding of multiple engineering, urban planning, landscape architecture and construction disciplines. It involves bringing the best ideas from each discipline and weaving them together to create great communities for our clients and for future residents. The details of the plans and designs must be supported by the local municipalities approving authority and working closely with their representatives is instrumental in the efficient advancement of the design and construction process. **Your Capabilities and Credentials**
* Must have a thorough understanding of land development including site grading, sanitary and storm sewer servicing, water servicing, shallow utility coordination, roadway, lot design, as well as a general understanding of stormwater engineering concepts.
* Experience in the province of British Columbia is strongly preferred.
* Understanding of the life cycle of land development projects from the land review stage through to permits, servicing agreements, tender, construction and project close-out.
* Must be a self-motivated individual possessing strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Take a solution-oriented approach to solving problems.
* Participates and collaborates in project team setting and able to engage in creative and critical thought.

The Ontario First Nations Technical Services Corporation (OFNTSC) is a nonprofit organization that provides technical advisory services, training, and capacity development to First Nations communities in Ontario. The Civil Engineer position assists and advises First Nations in all areas of civil engineering, including studies, design, construction, and project management. Typical projects include water and wastewater infrastructure, roads, drainage, solid waste, housing and buildings, including schools, as well as project management.

Responsibilities:

• Technical knowledge and experience in the project management, design, and construction of civil/municipal infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, schools, water and sewage treatment plants, distribution/collection systems, and community buildings.
• Review studies and design drawings for compliance with legislation, codes, standards, best practices, and guidelines, and provide advisory services on issues related to capital infrastructure projects.
• Liaise with and advise Tribal Councils, Large First Nations, and Unaffiliated First Nations regarding existing and proposed projects, both capital and operational, and maintenance.
• Assist First Nations with the federal and provincial funding approval process for minor and major capital projects and operations and maintenance projects.
• Provide project management services through monitoring project status, including budget and schedule, and provide advice to First Nations
• Be aware of and apply current regulations and guidelines relevant to facility design and operation and maintenance, and construction, including health and safety.
• Assist with funding applications and the coordination of work once funding is secure.
• Assist First Nations with retaining consultants in a competitive manner once funding is secured through developing design terms of references and assisting with the design consultant selection process.
• Complete other special projects, as may be assigned, including needs analysis, training course development, and presentations at OFNTSC workshops.
• Review all submissions from consultants and contractors, including consultant proposals, designs, construction quotations, and tenders.
• Assist with Conference and workshop-related activities.
• Act as a Liaison between First Nations and government agencies and assist with obtaining various sources of funding.

Qualifications:

• Bachelors Degree in Engineering (Civil or Structural preferred) and registration with Professional Engineers Ontario is required.
• Minimum of five (5) years of P.Eng experience.
• Project Management and/or public works management experience is considered an asset.
• Willing to travel throughout Ontario, and valid drivers license.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong ability and understanding of computer applications and software, including Microsoft Office.
• Knowledge of First Nations aspirations and culture, and experience with First Nations are considered an asset.

• Junior Engineer: 100K base + 30% target bonus = 130K total
• Senior Engineer: 135K base + 35% target bonus = 182K total

+ Design Site Plans that encompass site services, grading, earthworks, water distribution, access roads, drainage, and stormwater/wastewater management systems.
+ Develop, verify, and finalize technical deliverables including drawings, specifications, reports, and engineering calculations.

**What you'll bring to WSP:**
+ B.Sc. Degree in Civil Engineering.
+ A minimum of 10+ years of experience in consulting engineering firms, specifically in Civil Design and Site Planning.
+ Experience within heavy industrial projects desired.
+ In-depth knowledge of industry regulations, codes, and standards.
+ Professional Engineering Licence in Ontario (P.Eng) or one of the provinces required.
+ Eligible for federal security clearance.
+ Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment and adapt to changing project requirements.
+ Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
+ Knowledge in Visual OTTHYMO, Pix4D, and Revit would be an asset.
+ Great communication and interpersonal skills.
+ Possess a valid G driver's license.

To meet our growth challenges, WSP is currently seeking a **Senior Civil Engineer** to join one of our offices in Ontario **(Thunder Bay, Sudbury, Sault Ste Marie)** or Saskatchewan **(Saskatoon)** .
The successful candidate will bring strong technical knowledge and a proven track record of successful project delivery within Civil Engineering in an engineering consulting environment. As a Senior Civil Engineer, you will oversee and lead the design, construction, and maintenance of various heavy industrial civil engineering projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and client requirements. You will also be responsible for technical quality, cost effectiveness, building and maintaining client relationships, and providing guidance to a team of designers as an integral part of this role. As part of the Resources team, you'll be responsible for driving forward our ambitious plans to enhance our service offering in the province and beyond, through your work with a close-knit team of engineering specialists, professionals, and technical staff.
