Key tasks and responsibilities
Student Support & Welfare

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for non-academic student concerns, offering guidance, support, and appropriate referrals.
  • Monitor student wellbeing, identifying and escalating concerns to the Student Services Manager in a timely manner.
  • Provide close supervision and support for underage students, ensuring safety, compliance, and duty of care.
  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of student onboarding (First Day), orientation, graduation, and other events that foster student engagement.
  • Maintain up-to-date student welfare records in alignment with internal policies and external compliance requirements (ISP, MCU, Languages Canada).
  • Promote and enforce the schools English-only policy to encourage immersive language learning.
  • Assist students in emergencies by sharing responsibility for the emergency phone on a rotating basis.

Accommodation Coordination

  • Coordinate accommodation placements for students, ensuring accuracy and alignment with individual needs and preferences.
  • Maintain host family records, contracts, and compliance documentation; support host recruitment and inspection processes as needed.
  • Manage student satisfaction regarding accommodation, resolving concerns professionally and proactively.
  • Oversee airport transfer and meet-and-greet bookings in accordance with service standards.
  • Support external sales and admissions teams by responding to accommodation inquiries and providing updated availability and service details.
  • Promote homestay and residence offerings, contributing to overall service improvement.

Social Program & Student Engagement

  • Develop and implement a diverse and engaging calendar of student activities, following Bayswater social program requirements.
  • Conduct market and seasonal research to ensure activities align with student interests and local opportunities.
  • Deliver activities as requested.
  • Promote participation through effective communication, both online and on campus.
  • Coordinate logistics and budgets for activities in collaboration with the Student Services Manager.
  • Capture and share photos/videos on social media platforms to enhance the student experience and increase visibility.
  • Liaise with external tour and event providers to maintain quality partnerships and services.

General Administration & Front Desk Duties

  • Deliver high-quality front desk and reception services, greeting and assisting walk-ins, agents, guests, and trial students.
  • Support the processing of local bookings and follow up with leads in alignment with Bayswater procedures and compliance guidelines.
  • Assist with pre-arrival and post-arrival administration, ensuring a smooth transition for incoming students.
  • Provide general administrative and facility-related support, including room setup and event preparation as required.

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a highly dedicated and organized Education Support Assistant who is looking for an enriching experience to be part of the Fort McKay First Nation (FMFN) Education team. The Education Support Assistant supports the Post Secondary Education Coordinator and the Education Administrative team in the delivery and administration of the FMFN post-secondary education program and Education support services, available to Fort McKay First Nation members. Based out of Elsie Fabian school and reporting directly to the Education Director, this is a permanent full-time position, based on seventy-five (75) hours bi-weekly.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in the planning, development and implementation of programs and services for the Education Department.
  • Provide administrative assistance and support to the administrative team and Education Director as requested.
  • Process all new student application forms and inform them of approval process, policy and guidelines.  
  • Assist with processing applications, student invoices, documentation and maintain accurate files and records for all PSE student files each semester.
  • Ensure students maintain their responsibilities outlined in the post-secondary program policy.  
  • Update and maintain the PSE student database to ensure accurate records for all PSE students.
  • Establish and maintain excellent rapport with students, and refer them to academic support services, as needed.
  • Assist with new student orientation and conduct post-secondary student interviews relating to their progress, grades, attendance and if there are any issues concerning students attending post-secondary.
  • Provide information and appropriate websites so students may apply for bursaries or scholarships.
  • Assist with all reporting, data entry, filing, documentation, meeting minutes and administrative functions for the PSE program.
  • Continue education through upgrading and review of current related literature.
  • Compile and prepare data, statistics and requirements for monthly, quarterly and annual reports as requested by the Education Director.
  • Assist Elsie Fabian school administrative team as required.  
  • Assist PSE Coordinator with email communication, correspondence and phone calls to track and monitor student progress.
  • Assist with the organization and coordination of community education and/or engagement sessions related to education and the post-secondary education program.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KEY REQUIREMENTS
  • High school Diploma or equivalent
  • Diploma in Business Administration, Education, Social Services, Career Counseling or another related field is required
  • Minimum of one-year related experience
  • Strong computer skills. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office.  (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc)
  • Ability to speak either Dene or Cree language an asset
  • Experience working in a First Nations community including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions and values is a definite asset
  • A valid Class 5 drivers license and Clean Drivers Abstract
  • Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector is required

The Barrie Area Native Advisory Circle (BANAC) is a regional social planning and development organization which provides innovative programs and service to Indigenous communities in Simcoe County, Muskoka, and York Region. BANAC works in cooperation with communities in areas of concern where coordinated efforts are required to meet the needs which positively impact the region. BANAC will continue in the health and social planning capacity, offering consultation and support for our community development. About the Role:

The childcare Classroom Assistant Supply Staff will be in the classroom with the children assisting the Early Childhood Educators with programming, creating a safe environment, caring for the children, maintaining classroom cleanliness, conducting daily duties such as serving meals, changing diapers, writing daily reports, recording attendance, engaging in play, assisting to put children to sleep, and communicating with peers and parents.
