*The Opportunity *
Reporting to the Manager of Community Mental Health, the Masters prepared Social Worker will work as part of an interdisciplinary team within Community Mental Health in one of three community based clinics. The Social Worker is a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team which consists of Psychologists, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, In-Home support Youth Care Workers and Psychiatrists. The Social Worker will work with children, youth and families, utilizing the Choice and Partnership Approach (CAPA) to deliver care to children and youth up to 19 years of age in an ambulatory setting. This is done in accordance with the mission, philosophies and vision of the IWK Health Centre. Interventions and follow-up may be provided utilizing a direct, consultative or supervisory approach. Responsibilities include clinical work with children, youth and their families, with an emphasis on individual and family therapy as well as delivery of evidence based group interventions. Teaching and clinical supervision of students and in-home support workers is an expectation in the MSW role in CMH.

Reporting to the Patient Care Manager of Outpatient and Community Mental Health, the Mental Health Therapist will provide specialized comprehensive services to the Outpatient Mental Health Program at SNH and act as a Mental Health Therapist providing counselling and support to Outpatients. Summary of responsibilities

Reporting to the Supervisor, Child and Youth Mental Health Services, the Mental Health Counsellor works collaboratively with children and youth identified as being at risk for or who are experiencing mental health issues that affect their functioning in some areas, such as at home, school, and /or in the community as well as embody a culture of caregiver inclusion in the patient's plan of care. The Mental Health Counsellor is responsible for managing the clients' file and is required to perform screening/intake duties, provide brief services, to counsel and to monitor clients' progress and to work collaboratively with family/caregivers, agencies involved, as well as other multidisciplinary professionals within the organization. The Mental Health Counsellor will provide treatment in-person, virtually, and in the community (i.e. home, school, satellite offices) as required.

Requirements of the job

• College diploma in Human Services Field
• Experience working with children, youth and families in a clinical setting (3 years minimum)
• Knowledge of community resources
• Training in child development and child and youth mental health
• Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with community partners

About the Role:
CASA Mental Health Classrooms are CASA’s new model for school-based mental health service. The program addresses the need for services closer to students by bridging a child’s mental health and school needs, through a coordinated approach by a mental health team and a teacher. CASA Classrooms are delivered in partnership with the Government of Alberta, community partners and school divisions.

The Mental Health Therapist will:
 

• Work with the CASA team and external supports to provide high-quality, trauma-focused mental health therapies to children, teens and families.
• Complete mental health assessments, design treatment plans and provide multi-modality therapy for students.
• Help caregivers with children who have exceptional needs build specialized parenting skills.
• Formulate diagnoses as appropriate, using the DSM-5-TR and other diagnostic tools.
• Conduct case management functions, including convening case conferences and liaising with CASA therapists and psychiatrists, community services and other professionals involved with the child and their family.
• Coordinate consultation with others therapists or external partners as appropriate.
• Supervise and/or precept student placements.
• Contribute to staff knowledge and understanding of discipline-specific issues.

• Master’s degree in psychology, social work or occupational therapy, or, a bachelor’s degree in social work or a related discipline such as psychology or social sciences, with a minimum of three years of related experience in an educational or mental health setting.
• Active registration and in good standing with Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW), College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP) or Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).
• A minimum of two years of clinical practice in child and family mental health and/or youth addictions.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a vehicle.

• A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Check. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
• Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA) or Supporting Individuals through Valued Attachments (SIVA) training, as well as physical ability to perform all interventions.
