What you'll do
- Define and deliver modern infrastructure architectures for public and hybrid cloud solutions on Microsoft Azure and the broader Microsoft technology stack.
- Plan and design relationships across software, hardware, networks, people, and operations to enable cloud-oriented operating models.
- Lead discovery, assessment, planning, and execution phases, including architecture design sessions, proof-of-concepts, and solution delivery.
- Architect, design, and implement scalable, secure, and cost-efficient Azure solutions in collaboration with development teams.
- Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps to support continuous integration and deployment.
- Monitor, optimize, and troubleshoot Azure resources to ensure performance, reliability, and high availability.
- Apply and enforce security best practices, governance frameworks, and compliance with industry standards.
- Engage directly with clients, advising on strategy, governance, and evolving business requirements.
- Provide hands-on development support while mentoring and guiding junior engineers and team members.
- Stay up to date with the latest Azure technologies, trends, and best practices to drive innovation.
Skills and experiences
* Strong expertise in Azure services such as Virtual Machines, App Services, Azure Functions, Azure SQL Database, Azure Storage, and Azure Networking.
* Proficiency in scripting and automation using PowerShell, Azure CLI, ARM templates, Terraform, and Bicep (nice to have).
* Experience with CI/CD tools and practices, particularly Azure DevOps and YAML Pipelines.
* Solid understanding of security principles and best practices in the cloud.
* Experience with cloud transformation and migration solutions, infrastructure solutions, networking, data center operations, platform migration.
* Consulting focused on infrastructure modernization and migration to Azure (IaaS/PaaS).
* Infrastructure migration or data center migration.
* Cloud automation and security.
* Application modernization and containers.
* Operation management, systems security, testing, databases, and mobility considerations.
* Up-to-date knowledge of Microsoft products.
* Experience working with global and offshore teams on projects.
* Advanced skills and experience in application lifecycle management, agile development methods, and software planning.
* Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
* Experience with serverless architectures and microservices.
* Knowledge of networking concepts and protocols.
* Excellent technical documentation skills utilizing Word, Excel, Visio, and PPT.
* Willingness to support weekend migration cutovers (up to 1 weekend per month).
* Familiarity with M&A integration processes in insurance or financial services (nice to have).

About this job:

• We are seeking a dynamic, customer-focused, and solution-oriented Senior Cloud Architect to join our Cloud & Digital Workplace Team. Reporting to the Head of Cloud & Digital Workplace CoE, you will be based in our Dublin office.
• As the owner of PartnerRe's Cloud Architecture and DevSecOps practices, your primary mission is to design, implement, and manage the company's cloud infrastructure, ensuring scalability, security, and cost efficiency. This strategic role involves developing and integrating cloud services, overseeing cloud governance and adoption processes, you will closely collaborate with application development and infrastructure teams to align cloud solutions with business objectives.

About the role:

• Define, evolve and maintain cloud architecture, strategy, principles, guidelines, and standards and integrate new cloud services.
• Take ownership of the DevOps discipline and guarantee seamless incorporation of DevSecOps into both application development and infrastructure teams.
• Maintain and evolve reference cloud solution architectures, support application development teams in the implementation.
• Lead application modernization efforts (containerization, microservices); define cloud-native architecture styles and patterns.
• Hands-on cloud engineering: assess and implement new cloud services based on application development and operational requirements.
• Provide second-level operational support to application development and infrastructure operation teams.
• Coach application developers in best practice cloud-native development, standards and with cloud native tools.
• Manage a team of platform engineers managing services implementation.

Qualifications

Technical Skills/Competencies:

• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Azure Cloud (experience with other cloud environments is a plus)
• Solid understanding of DevSecOps concepts (continuous integration, continuous delivery, Infrastructure as Code, containerization)
• In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience working with various cloud services, ranging from virtual machines to Azure Kubernetes Services and Azure AI Services
• Extensive exprience working with DevOps tools and platforms (Azure DevOps,GitHub, GitLab, Terraform, AKS)
• Knowledge of programming languages such as Python, Java, or C# 
• Understanding of networking, security, and database management

**Required/minimum qualifications**
+ Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Business, Liberal Arts, or related field AND 4+ years experience in cloud/infrastructure technologies, information technology (IT) consulting/support, systems administration, network operations, software development/support, technology solutions, practice development, architecture, and/or consulting
+ OR equivalent experience.
+ 4+ years of experience in the implementation (end to end) of Data Security projects with Data Security Platforms, preferably experience with Microsoft Purview (Information Protection, Data Loss Prevention, Information Risk Management)
