Vancouver, British Columbia Apera AI Inc

Job Description

Job Description

Job Description

We are an innovative, Vancouver-based startup at the forefront of robotics, AI, and machine vision technologies. Backed by VC funding and we've been recognized with the 2025 Frost & Sullivan Technology Innovation Leadership Award, the AAM Supplier Excellence Innovation Award, and the 2024 BC Tech "Company of the Year – Growth", we are on a mission to redefine the future of AI-driven robotic vision systems. Apera AI helps manufacturers make their factories more flexible and productive. Robots enhanced with Apera's software have 4D Vision – the ability to see and handle objects with human-like capability. Challenging applications such as bin picking, sorting, packaging, and assembly are now open to fast, precise, and reliable automation. Apera is led by an experienced team from high-growth companies focused on robotics, artificial intelligence, and advanced manufacturing.

Let's End Robot Blindness. Together.

Robots can do amazing things, if they can see. Apera AI builds breakthrough vision systems that give robots the clarity to handle complex, real-world tasks. But fleets don't scale themselves. People do. That's where you come in.

We're looking for a Software Developer, Cloud Infrastructure who loves turning distributed-systems complexity into fast, reliable, secure platforms. You'll build the cloud backbone that powers AI training and connects our vision-guided robots to telemetry, analytics, and over-the-air improvements, so factories can trust automation at scale.

This is not a typical "keep the servers running" role. It's bigger, broader, faster-moving. At Apera AI, you'll design and ship cloud services that drive adoption, uptime, and ROI for the most advanced robotic vision tech in the world.

What You'll Do

  • Design and build: Create scalable, multi-tenant services (AWS/GCP), using IaC to provision networks, clusters, secrets, and policies reproducibly.
  • Accelerate delivery: Implement CI/CD, canary/blue-green releases, and one-click rollbacks to safely ship multiple production changes per week.
  • Make data useful: Build secure telemetry ingest, storage, and APIs that turn robot and vision signals into actionable insights for product and field teams.
  • Engineer reliability: Define SLOs, instrument services end-to-end, and harden systems for 99.9%+ uptime with autoscaling and fault isolation.
  • Implement security and compliance : Enforce least-privilege access, automate policy enforcement, and build toward SOC 2 certification through secure-by-design infrastructure and monitoring.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally: Partner with Robotics, Vision, Simulation, and Field teams so cloud capabilities match real-world deployment needs.

Why This Is a Career Move (Not Just a Job)
At Apera, we don't just build robots, we give them vision.

Here's what makes this role special:

  • Your code powers factories. You'll see your services reduce downtime, speed installs, and raise throughput.
  • Full ownership. From design doc to IaC, from SLO to post-incident learning - you own the loop.
  • Breadth + depth. Distributed systems, security, data, CI/CD, observability, all in one seat, with real impact.

Why You'll Love It Here

  • Purpose with impact: You're not just shipping endpoints. You're enabling global manufacturers to run smarter, safer, more flexible operations.
  • Freedom to innovate: We value pragmatic engineering - the simplest design that meets the SLO wins.
  • Growth at the frontier: Robotics, AI, optics, and cloud at production scale, plus hands-on with modern infra and MLOps patterns.
  • Culture that values curiosity: Bring ideas, measure outcomes, iterate quickly, share what you learn.

What We're Looking For

  • Professional experience building cloud services (AWS or GCP) with infrastructure as code (Terraform/CDK/CloudFormation).
  • Strong software fundamentals in one or more languages (e.g., Go, Python, TypeScript/Node ).
  • Hands-on CI/CD (GitHub Actions/CircleCI/ArgoCD), containerization/orchestration (Docker/Kubernetes ), and observability (metrics/logs/traces).
  • Solid grasp of security (identity, least privilege, secrets, network boundaries) and multi-tenant design.
  • Experience defining SLOs , on-call participation, and production incident response.

Why Apera?

  • Every employee is an owner - equity for all .
  • A culture of curiosity: we experiment, learn fast, and share openly.
  • Well funded and scaling with industry recognition and real-world deployments.
  • High-impact work with autonomy and clear paths to grow.

Straightforward Compensation, Real Growth

At Apera AI, we keep compensation as clear as our technology. We hire for impact - and reward it accordingly. This software engineering opportunity spans three career levels, each reflecting increasing scope, technical depth, and leadership influence.

You'll join at the level that best matches your experience and contribution:

Intermediate Engineer (typically 3–8 years): $110,000 CAD – $45,000 CAD
Senior Engineer (typically 8–12 years): $1 0,000 CAD – $1 0,000 CAD
Principal Engineer (typically 12+ years): 190,000 CAD and above

Our total compensation range of 110,000 CAD – $1 0,000 CAD + per year covers these levels and includes base salary and equity opportunities.

We tailor offers based on more than resume years, we look at your unique skills, creative problem-solving, and the impact you'll have as we reinvent industrial automation with AI-powered vision systems. Transparency is our baseline; growth is our promise.

At Apera AI, you'll help bring intelligent robots into production and shape the future of automation.

Apply today and be part of Apera AI's mission to end robot blindness.

About Zoic Studios

Zoic Studios is a visual effects company where creativity meets engineering. We’ve delivered award-winning visuals for film, television, and interactive media and we’re now evolving our infrastructure to meet the demands of next-generation content creation.

We’re transitioning from traditional on-prem compute to a cloud-native architecture built entirely on-prem using platforms like OpenNebula and Kubernetes. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams, tackle challenges that don’t have off-the-shelf solutions, and help shape the technical foundation that supports our artists and engineers. If you’re curious, resourceful, and excited by the idea of building infrastructure that powers world-class visual storytelling, this is your opportunity to make a lasting impact.
