The Compliance Specialist, reporting directly to the Chief Compliance Officer, will play a key role on the
operations team to fulfill the multifaceted regulatory obligations of a mutual fund dealer. This position has a broad range of responsibilities that will allow the successful candidate to learn, experience and flourish in many different areas of compliance.
- Conduct ongoing compliance monitoring activities of mutual fund registrants at either a Tier 1 or 2 level
- File NRD registration applications, notices and terminations
- Assist with the creation and updates of policy and procedures manual
- Work with the dealer’s Investment Product Committee to fulfil its KYP obligations
- Review marketing materials and co-operative marketing requests
- Maintain appropriate paper and electronic records
- Occasionally travel to branches to conduct reviews, interviews and/or training
- Keep abreast of changes to compliance procedures, firm policies, compliance manuals and rules,
regulations and requirements of securities regulatory authorities - Work to continually improve product and compliance knowledge by completing industry courses,
participating in seminars, workshops and conferences, proactively reading internal publications,
industry news and media releases, and sharing information and ideas with team members. - Travel to various offices to perform reviews
- Other miscellaneous duties and special projects as assigned
Education & Experience
- Post secondary degree or diploma in business or finance
- 5+ years’ experience in the securities industry and regulatory environment (preferred)
- Industry courses (IFIC/CSC, Branch Managers’ Course, and/or Partners, Directors and Senior
Officers) or willing to complete within a short time frame
Technical Knowledge
- Diligent with strong time management and organization skills
- Sharp attention to detail
- Compelling verbal and written communication skills
- Advanced working knowledge of MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Word)

**Responsibilities:**
**Annual Overhauls & Maintenance Audits:**
- Plan, monitor, and participate in annual overhauls for bottling sites.
- Oversee maintenance compliance through audits, ensuring adherence to IRSS standards and regulatory requirements.
**Projects & New Installations:**
- Collaborate with the projects team on the installation and commissioning of new production lines and equipment.

- Travel to various sites to provide on-site technical support and mentorship to maintenance teams.

**Education/Skills/Experience Required:**

AVS Employment has partnered with a top 10 global forwarder and hiring for a Customs Compliance Specialist to work out of their Mississauga office.
About the Role
A Customs Compliance Specialist will be responsible for ensuring compliance with various regulations and providing support to clients regarding customs-related inquiries. HS Classification, Support operations/ release department with important changes for PGA’s and other OGD requirements, FTA qualification and analysis, valuation assessment, customs verification and audit assistance, blankets amends and refunds.
Responsibilities
- Qualify goods under Free Trade Agreements
- Assist clients during CBSA Compliance Verification and post-audit requirements
- Ensure compliance with OGD regulations
- Identify tax recovery opportunities (customs duties, GST, drawbacks, excise tax etc.)
- Support Operations release with PGA inquiries when necessary
- Assign proper tariff classifications including end-use provisions
- Ensure compliance with SIMA
- Provide support and solutions to both external and internal clients regarding technical customs regulatory inquiries
- Claim blanket refunds, drawbacks, remissions, rulings
- Perform Free Trade certificate reviews for completeness and provide feedback to clients
- Upsell and cross-sell customs and compliance services to existing customers that can benefit from the service
- Advise clients on regulation inquiries such as origin, valuation, marking, temporary imports, Special Import Measures Act
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working as Customs Compliance, Customs Specialist, Customs Consulting
- Knowledge and familiarity in the related regulatory laws, including OGD requirements, Customs valuation, GST/HST application, temporary import regulations, etc.
- Strong technical knowledge of CBSA, OGD regulations, import/export permits
- Strong organizational, problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Strong research/analytical skills with high attention to details
- Well-organized and self-motivated
- Customs Certified Specialist (CCS)
