Position Overview
- Reporting to the Estimating Manager, the Estimator uses estimating software to perform quantity take offs, cost analysis, sub-trade negotiations, competitive bid management and document control. The Estimator supports full-cycle estimating activities for preparing hard bid, cost plus and design-build estimates.
Responsibilities and Primary Tasks
- Prepares complete estimates for projects (full cycle bid process), including analyzing specifications, proposals, and other documentation.
- Assists in devising potential bid strategies for competitive tender projects, provides technical input regarding project and contract risks.
- Accurately determines scopes of work and conceptual estimates by drawing on experience, reviewing proposal specifications, drawings and attending pre-bid meetings.
- Calculates complete takeoff of scopes of work, including material quantity requirements from engineering drawings based on first principles estimating .

Responsibilities:
- Follow all safety protocols and contribute to the success of the safety program
- Perform tasks as required on construction site
- Operate and maintain small tools
- Shoveling and site clean up
- Learn pipe laying techniques (for advancement)
Requirements:
- 2+ years experience in civil construction preferred
- Ability to take and follow instruction
- Professional demeanour when dealing with the public
- Able to work outside in all-weather at all times of the year
- Minimum two years experience in civil construction
- Ability to work as a team as well as independently when required
- Physically fit and able to lift 50 pounds or more
- Able to do extensive physical labour
- Valid provincial drivers license
Assets:
- Recent working experience in similar role
- First aid training
This position is compensated at an hourly rate. Employees are eligible for enrollment in our company benefits package following successful completion of a three month probationary period. Compensation will be determined by the successful applicants level of training and experience. Submissions will be reviewed and only short listed applicants will be contacted for interviews. This position is based out of Fort St. John but willingness to travel out of town is required. LOA may be available to certain applicants.
