Our Construction client is seeking an Health, Safety and Environment Manager to support their diverse operational safety needs and collaborate across all levels of the organization. This position based in London, and will champion all safety requirements of the corporation with the HSE best practices and procedures. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
- Minimum of 7 years of experience as a HSE Manager with 3+ years of experience in the construction industry.
- Degree or Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or Environmental Science.
- Certified as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
- Certified as a National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO).
- Knowledge of Ontario OHSA, WSIB processes, COR certification and ISO 1400 standards .
- Knowledge of provincial and federal HSE standards.
- Experience with Quality Management Systems and HSE software
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Create and implement polices, programs and processes to drive HSE performance across all divisions.
- Oversee the creation, implementation and monitoring of HSE programs including hazard assessments, risk mitigation strategies and incident oversight.
- Develop and mentor strong performing teams through training and coaching opportunities.
- Develop and maintain an HSE management system that aligns with corporate objectives and goals.
- Manage and oversee the Quality Management System, ensuring its integration with HSE programs and alignment with ISO 1400 standards.
- Manage and conduct audits to maintain compliance with ISO 14001 OSHA and COR certifications.
- Support timely follow up on audits with respect to corrective actions that have identified gaps to maintain compliance.
- Ensure compliance with all provincial and federal safety standards.
- Oversee the development and delivery of safety programs to ensure staff and contractors are proficient in hazard identification, emergency procedures and use of PPE.
- Serve as the key advisor on heath and safety as well as environmental matters.

- Work closely with HSE Coordinators, ensuring alignment with HSE Strategies.
- Partner with division leaders to implement HSE strategies.
- Develop and maintain accurate documentation related to HSE performance, audits, incidents and compliance.

**REQUIREMENTS:**
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Construction Safety Officer (CSO).
- Valid CSO certification recognized in British Columbia.
- Advanced First Aid is mandatory or a current OFA 3 ticket.
- Strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations and safety best practices.
- Knowledge of BCCSA COR requirements
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced construction environment.
- High attention to detail and proactive problem-solving skills.
- Ability and confidence to instill core safety values internally and to trade contractors.
- Ability to work efficiently with minimal direction while leading by example
- Basic computer skills; Experience with Outlook, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint is required.
- Experience using Procore Management System is an asset.

About the Role
Axiom Builders is actively seeking a number of passionate and professional Construction Safety Officers (CSO) to oversee and enhance safety protocols across our high-rise and wood-frame construction sites. The CSO's fundamental role is to uphold Axiom's stringent safety standards by meticulously monitoring the site-specific safety plan and ensuring full compliance. Beyond compliance, the CSO will proactively address any safety concerns that arise and adeptly implement solutions that align with Axiom's steadfast commitment to safety.
We are actively hiring CSOs for our sites in Vancouver, Burnaby and Coquitlam.
Key Responsibilities
- Stay updated on occupational health and safety regulations, maintaining relevant certifications;
- Monitor and enhance safety by tracking issues, maintaining records of incidents, and suggesting improvements;
- Conduct orientations, training, and safety coordination for workers and subcontractors;
- Perform safety inspections, hazard assessments, and provide guidance on tool and equipment usage;
- Lead emergency response, manage First Aid resources, investigate incidents, and collaborate on safety record management.
What You Bring
The ideal candidate for the Construction Safety Officer role is someone who leads by example and possesses a strong work ethic. You should also demonstrate the ability to adapt on the go and thrive in a fast-paced work environment. Drawing upon your extensive background in health and safety, you guarantee compliance with safety regulations in all aspects of the construction process.
Skills and Experience
- Five or more (5+) years related experience in a safety position acquired in a construction setting (residential, commercial, institutional, or industrial settings);
- Compulsory Advanced First Aid (OFA Level 3);
- CSO designation and/or National Construction Safety Officer or similar accreditation through a recognized training authority;
- Additional training in safety an asset including but not limited to, WHMIS, CSTS, Confined Space Entry, Fall Protection, Aerial Work Platform etc.;
- Thorough knowledge of all applicable Provincial legislation regarding Occupational Health and Safety;
- Effective time management, organizational and problem-solving skills, including an understanding of accident prevention and cause analysis;
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills. Must be able to coach, facilitate and influence a cultural and behavioral change in the workplace regarding safety.
