In Canada, our local offices expertise and services encompass arboriculture and forestry, right-of-way vegetation management, ecology and wildlife assessment, and asset management.
As a Consulting Arborist you will be called upon to provide your knowledge and experience to provide in-depth consultative services across several different client groups from individual homeowners to Architects, Builders/Construction companies, larger utility clients, and municipalities. The ability to communicate clearly through face-to-face interactions, report writing, and detailed assessments will be vital towards the success of the applicant and Davey Resource Group.
Job Duties
- Consult with clients within different aspects of projects that may impact trees.
- Travel to various locations within a specified region providing consulting services.
- Complete Arborist Reports and tree preservation plans for construction projects.
- Draft technical reports detailing tree assessments and providing recommendations.
- Assist in developing urban forestry strategy and management plans.
- Create detailed Tree Risk Assessments for clients.
- Perform data collection for tree inventory projects throughout southern Ontario.
- Complete non-invasive root exploration when requested by a client or municipality.
- Monitor excavation within root zones and provide root pruning to mitigate tree impacts.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years Industry experience
- ISA Certified Arborist or equivalent accreditation (RPF, ASCA) required.
- TRAQ Certification and/or any additional ISA accreditation is a plus.
- Strong Tree Species Identification skills, ability to identify and assess tree defects/diseases.
- Experience using GIS programs (ArcGIS, QGIS, etc.) is recommended but not required.
- Knowledge of the construction industry, civil engineering, or utilities are an asset.
- Valid provincial driver’s license.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, willingness to learn and progress.
- Experience with MS Office is necessary. Experience with AutoCAD is an asset.

Specific Duties:
A Consulting Arborist will have a variety of tasks to perform daily, varying by the work acquired through the sales and consulting team. The main priorities are to perform fieldwork, tree inventories, tree risk assessments, advise on the preservation of trees, prepare written reports, liaise information to clients, assist with consulting and training sales, and demonstrate a high level of competency and adherence to ANSI Standards, ISA Best Management Practices and Code of Ethics, and company safety policies and procedures. This role includes mentoring those who have career paths in consulting, training, and furthering a career in arboriculture.
Consulting
- Perform tree resource inventories and management plans.
- Perform impact evaluations.
- Perform development impact appraisals and produce tree preservation and tree replacement plans.
- Perform tree valuations.
- Perform tree risk assessments.
- Safely operate and gather data with equipment such as an Urban Forest Metrix®, Airspade®, AirKnife®, TreeRadar®, and Resistograph®.
- Ascend trees to perform aerial inspections, obtain observations/data, with experience in performing all duties as a climbing arborist.
- Prepare written reports on all aspects of arboricultural consulting.
- Create detailed visual aids to accompany reports, using photo editing programs, Adobe software and computer-aided drafting systems such as CADD.

- Understand, interpret and apply knowledge of municipal tree bylaws.
Safety

- Support Safety & Training staff in the continuous improvement of company and industry safety standards through.
- Participate in safety meetings and encourage safe work practices for all staff.
Qualifications:
- Must be an ISA Certified Arborist and have current ISA TRAQ qualification.
