# **About the Position**
ATS Traffic is looking for a Drafting and Design Technician to join our team! This position will be responsible for designing and drafting traffic control drawings for projects throughout Canada, such as temporary work zones and detours. This role will also create Traffic Accommodation Strategies for internal and external clients.

# **Responsibilities**
- Using AutoCAD to draft 2D based traffic plans, supervise and assist other AutoCAD users
- Utilize MS Word to create written strategies and technical reports for customers
- Collaborate with engineers to complete professionally sealed drawings
- Create temporary traffic control strategies and other reports as required; work with different departments within ATS Traffic for tenders, job planning and quoting
- Build and maintain a rapport with the general contractors and road governing authorities
- Effectively communicate with client project managers and other discipline leads regarding the design, design changes, models, etc.
- Research, review and implement methods, systems and procedures that add value to engineering service’s final products;
- Finish and duplicate drawings and documentation packages, according to required mediums and specifications for reproduction;
# **Qualifications**
- Post secondary education in related field such as Construction Management, Design and Mechanical Systems, or related field is desired. Preference will be given to candidates who bring AutoCAD Level 1 Diploma or Certificate.
- 3-5 previous experience in the traffic or road safety/construction industry is an asset; Preference will be given to candidates who have completed the Alberta Construction Safety Association’s (ACSA's) Alberta Temporary Traffic Control (ATTC) course for Traffic Control Supervisor's is an asset
- Intermediate experience using AutoCAD designing and drafting experience.
- Knowledge of vehicle tracking and Google Earth is an asset.
- Understanding of temporary work zone designs construction phasing is an asset.
- Exceptional working knowledge of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Surerus Murphy Joint Venture is recruiting for a competent, enthusiastic, and dynamic Junior CAD / Drafting Technician to join our team supporting ongoing energy infrastructure construction projects across Canada & USA. This role reports to both the Digital Design Lead, as well as project-based engineering & construction teams. A Junior CAD / Drafting Technician works with project teams to prepare engineering design and construction drawings, process survey information, create & develop 3D models, and output construction models for machine control files.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES***:**
- Opportunity to work on high-profile, large-scale energy projects of national importance, including oil & gas pipelines, net-zero energy projects & renewable energy projects.
- Use the latest Autodesk CAD software to prepare project design & construction 3D models and drawings.
- Create large earthworks & grading models for export into site equipment for machine control & calculation of material volumes.
- Utilize UAV LIDAR & photogrammetry data, laser scan pointcloud data sets and orthographic imagery for incorporation into, and development of, 3D construction models.
- Responsible to produce project construction facilitation drawings, including access route plans & road upgrade drawings, site & equipment layouts, trenchless pipeline crossings, open cut pipeline crossings, environmental mitigation drawings, lift plan drawings, steep slope identification & construction drawings.
- Work in different geographic coordinate systems with metric, imperial and mixed metric units.
- Produce project models & drawings in accordance with the company CAD Standard, ensuring that drawings are prepared, stored, issued, and archived in accordance with current company procedures.
- Project data management of all CAD files.
- Follow checking and self-checking process, issuing drawings to internal and external clients, and managing electronic information.
- Solve technical challenges, maintain and improve knowledge of drafting techniques, task workflows, standards, and engineering procedures.

**WORKING CONDITIONS***:**
This is a permanent position based at our Spruce Grove office with a 5-day work week, 8-hour days.
Project schedules will typically follow 6 days on 1 day off shift, working 12 hours per day with a site based daily pay uplift. There will be a requirement to be site based when placed to work on a construction project. Project sites are usually based in areas throughout Alberta and British Columbia.

DAY IN THE LIFE
- Responsible for the quality assurance of models/documents on assigned projects created by the drafting department throughout the drafting process, ensuring compliance with contract documents, project specifications, and engineering requirements.
- Checks Drawings for dimensional accuracy to construction documents and general conformance to specifications, application of project details, standard operating procedure, and engineering requirements.
- Checks early material takeoffs for procurement, as well as production material sheets and final order quantities.
- Checks erection/site material sheets for conformance to design and drawings, as well as for accurate quantities.
- Checks steel tickets for accuracy to erection drawings, formatting, and clarity.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- 5 years extensive prefabrication checking or Fitting experience preferred.
- Proficient in the use of Tekla for general modeling of structures.
- General knowledge of Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, and other collaborative applications.
- Understanding and acceptance of changes that are implemented to become best in class.
- Proficiency in reading and understanding construction documents and shop drawings.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to work in a team environment, or independently
- Demonstrated proficiency in organization and attention to detail
GOOD TO KNOW
- Must have own vehicle as facility is not located near public transportation.
- Must be a self-starter with the ability to learn quickly and be resourceful.
