Job Summary
The Network & Infrastructure Engineer willbe responsible for the design, maintenance, monitoring, performance, and administration of our LAN/WAN infrastructure. As a member of our IT Operations team, you will ensure that network connectivity at our facilities meet uptime and QoS standards as well as ensure that our network infrastructure is prepared for future growth and scalability.
Responsibilities
- Proactively monitor overall network performance to identify trends in usage and service across the organization and recommend improvements when applicable
- Assess current infrastructure capabilities including identification of service issues, gaps and risk to business operations
- Preparation and maintenance of network architecture documentation
- Define, document, and enforce network systems & standards including network security policies and network access monitoring and controls
- Oversee data centre networking and operations, including troubleshooting issues
- Responsibilities include supporting multiple locations (Ottawa & Belleville)
- Monitor performance, security, and capacity
utilization to ensure that they are meeting business needs (apply best practice framework / policies).
- Take charge of change escalated Service Desk requests, problem solving and incidents response.
- Frequently be available support any planned support/maintenance/emergency outages to support outside of normal office hours.
- Foster a collaborative team environment and ensure effective communication within the team and with other departments.
- Manage patching & security compliance of network devices and firewalls.
- Administer VPN, certificates & DNS
- Create templates and baseline configurations for network devices
- Manage backup & recovery of network configurations, and ensure high availability configurations are validated to support business continuity; participate in disaster recovery testing
- Support PCI DSS audits to ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Work with vendors and NHL officials to ensure the Leagues network connectivity are met.
- Administer VPN.
- Review, troubleshoot, and maintain Palo Alto firewalls & policies
- Support connectivity to digital displays and arena time-keeping appliances.
- Secondary support for Microsoft 365 applications Exchange online, MS Teams phone, and other applications (when primary support resources are not available)
- Secondary boardroom conferencing solution support / troubleshooting (when primary support resources are not available)
- On-call support 24/7
Professional Credentials you Posses
- University degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field.
- CCNP, CCIP or equivalent certification
Skills and Experience You Posses
- 5 or more years of demonstrated experience in network administration, design, deployment, and security.
- Designing, installing, monitoring, securing, and troubleshooting LAN/WAN including high-availability design, switching, routing, load balancing, firewalls, SAN, VLAN, VPN/SDWAN, WAP, and cabling/patching
- Working in a NOC which monitors and troubleshoots network performance (uptime, QoS) with tools such as Wireshark, CACI, MRTG, PRTG, Nagios, Zabbix, etc.
- Familiarity with open-source network security and enterprise monitoring tools such Snort, Suricata, Zeek/Bro, Sysmon, ELK, etc.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting large multi-tier multi-segmented networks in a complex WAN environment

Key Responsibilities:
Infrastructure Operations & Maintenance
- Daily Inspections & Monitoring: Perform daily walkthroughs and inspections of critical infrastructure systems such as HVAC, UPS, generators, PDUs, and fire suppression systems. Identify and escalate anomalies or issues to the appropriate support teams.
- Maintenance Support: Assist in both preventative and corrective maintenance activities in collaboration with vendors or internal engineering teams.
- Power Provisioning: Support power provisioning and de-provisioning at the rack and PDU level to ensure optimal power distribution.
- Alert Monitoring: Monitor and respond to alerts related to infrastructure and hardware health using DCIM (Data Center Infrastructure Management) and BMS (Building Management Systems) tools to proactively address issues.

Physical & Hardware Support
- Rack & Stack: Rack, stack, and cable servers, storage, and networking equipment according to build plans and MOPs (Method of Procedures).
- Cable Installation & Troubleshooting: Terminate, test, and troubleshoot fiber optic (SM/MM) and copper (Cat5e/6/6a) cabling for both new and existing deployments, ensuring optimal performance.
- Cable Management: Maintain strict cable management, labeling, and documentation standards for all installations to ensure ease of maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Hardware Diagnostics: Perform diagnostics, component swaps (e.g., RAM, SSDs, NICs), and system reboots as directed by internal teams or customers.
- Equipment Deployments: Assist in the deployment and testing of servers, network devices, and storage systems for internal use and customer deployments.
Smart Hands & Customer Support
- Remote Hands Support: Act as an onsite "Smart Hands & Eyes" for both internal teams and customers requiring remote support, including device identification, hardware replacement, and console access.

Operational Support

- Documentation Contribution: Contribute to the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOPs), MOPs, and emergency response documentation to ensure operational consistency and safety.
Security & Compliance
- Adherence to Security Protocols: Follow physical and remote security policies and procedures to safeguard the data center and its assets.
- Compliance Participation: Adhere to industry compliance frameworks, including SOC 2 Type 2, CSA 282, ISO 27001, and PCI-DSS, ensuring all activities meet the security and regulatory standards.

On-call & After-Hours Support

ABOUT YOU
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, etc.) or a relevant degree preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in data center operations, NOC (Network Operations Center), or a technical support role with a solid understanding of infrastructure management.
Technical Skills:
- Data Center Infrastructure: Working knowledge of core data center systems such as power distribution (UPS, PDUs), cooling systems (HVAC), and physical security protocols.
- Cabling & Networking: Proficiency in fiber optic (SM/MM) and copper (Cat5e/6/6a) cabling, including installation, testing, fault isolation, and troubleshooting.

ABOUT THE WORK ENVIRONMENT

Data Center Facilites Technician :
The Data Center Facilites Technician is responsible, as part of a team, for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center is operating at peak efficiency. This involves both planned preventative maintenance of equipment, daily corrective work, and emergency response to emergent issues. The Data Center Facilites Technician primarily interacts with Data Center Engineers, clients, and vendors. Data center equipment that supports mission-critical servers must maintain better than 99.999% uptime. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, emergency diesel generators, electrical switchgear, UPSs, PDUs, AHUs, chillers, cooling towers, chemical treatment systems, pumps, motors, VFDs, and building automation systems, and a basic understanding of this equipment would be preferred.
The Data Center Facilites Technician also provides comprehensive data center white space support for IT infrastructure, which may include monitoring, troubleshooting, reporting, and day-to-day maintenance – all of this being site-dependent and as per the service level agreements with our clients. Data Center Facilites Technicians are also responsible for using event monitoring and management systems to provide notifications and escalations to stakeholders during service outages.
Responsibilities:
- Working knowledge of facility equipment including, but not limited to, pumps, compressors, CRACs, UPS, generators, switch gear, BMS, life-safety systems, security systems and more.
- Work with senior colleagues, team members, vendors, and other stakeholders to test and install data center infrastructure equipment and services.
- Work closely with senior staff to ensure that operational services functionality meets or exceeds customer expectations for performance, reliability, escalation, and communication, as per SLA.
- Work closely with vendors to resolve service-affecting incidents and/or outages.
- Troubleshoot infrastructure and equipment problems, placing service calls when problems remain unresolved.
- Provide data center white space support to managed services, including, but not limited to: routers and switches and other customer or self-owned digital infrastructure.
- Perform trouble isolation and resolution as needed.
- Perform maintenance as needed/directed.
- Perform day-to-day operations, functional maintenance on infrastructure equipment to ensure the reliability and resilience of the data center environment, as per checklists and procedures.
- Perform consolidated event management for all monitored equipment at the data center site.
- Provide monitoring and overall support, ensuring successful operation of all site facility and other mission-critical equipment infrastructure (Generators, UPS, Thermal Management, Electrical infrastructure, etc.)
- Experience from stacking and racking of servers to battery/power and structured cabling.
- Generate end user performance reports as needed.
- Troubleshoots and resolves client-side problems, when so required.
- Produce reports with metrics on service requests, problem management, backup and statistics, number of events for internal and external stakeholders.
- Monitor capacity utilization.

We are looking for a Controls Superintendent that can manage the data to project and manage vendors conducting Retrofits and Modernization for Equipment upgrades and integrations within active Critical Facilities that are running 24/7/365. The Controls Super will be responsible for overseeing project teams responsible for managing internal and subcontractor teams for data centre construction and upgrade projects. Scopes vary from minor BMS / EPMS / BAS upgrade projects to major multidisciplinary projects involving various subcontractors and trades. They will lead action-oriented weekly and monthly meetings with team members while maintaining open communication across projects with internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, Organize, Coordinate and Support internal and external subcontractor teams on mission critical renovation / upgrade projects that include: BMS, EPMS, BAS, mechanical, electrical, and structural
- Manage data centre construction projects (2-10mm)
- Follow Critical Facilities Construction Project plans – scheduling , timeline, and implementation / go live
- Coordinate and conduct site surveys and assessments to ensure project feasibility and compliance with design specifications.
- Coordinate and manage the development of client submittals, site logistics plans, MOPs, SOPs, Daily logs, project schedules, change orders, RFIs, RFQs, Bid submittals, and documentation
- Attend bid walks with client and subcontractors
- Maintain and promote a positive relationship with primary client, A/E firm, Owner's Rep firm, Contractors and other vendors to facilitate construction activities that impact the delivery of critical facilities construction projects
- Follow project objectives, policies, procedures and performance standards within boundaries of corporate policies.
- Maintain a commitment to organized and accurate documentation
- Partner with key stakeholders by gaining feedback from clients, attending meetings, and submitting reports
- Evaluate and incorporate lessons learned from all sites to enhance current and future data centre construction successes
- Supervise, lead, and mentor team members on the project controls team
- Regularly update upper management with reports on Project Controls activities
- Manage planning efforts for manpower and project integration timelines on customer sites
- Drive uniform Company Standards for Project Delivery across all projects
- Oversee and maintain a safe working environment and promote a safety culture
- Manage / Monitor / Track (rental equipment, change orders, etc.) to protect the company's interest and simultaneously maintain good relationship with the client
Qualifications:
- Experience managing Data Centre Construction Projects
- Francophone a must
- Solid understanding of MEP, Structural, architectural trades and construction methods and how this impacts the Data Centre Design Process of Building Control Systems
- 3-5 years + of Mission Critical Data Center Turnkey Construction Projects
- Extensive design of BMS / BCS / EPMS ( Building Monitoring Systems / Building Control Systems / Electrical Power Monitoring Systems) - SCADA, Cimplicity, ALC, Niagara, Tridium, Carel, Metasys, etc.
- Familiarity with construction management software and tools
- Thorough understanding of construction methods and safety practices
- OSHA30 Certificate
- Ability to read / interpret blueprints, technical drawings and one-line diagrams
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations
- Client Facing /Client relationship / Client Management skills
- Business Development experience; previous experience creating and responding to RFPs and RFIs
- BA / BS / Associates Degree / Relevant Certifications (Project Management, Construction Management, Business, Engineering) a plus
- Solid Project management construction experience; Project Management Professional (PMP) or PMI-Scheduling Professional (SP) a plus
- Effective communicator via email, phone, and in-person
- Ability to work independently; self-starter, self-motivated, attention to detail, taskmaster, problem solver, and effective with time management

Your role:
The Data Center Operations Specialist provides technical support of Global Relay's mission critical data center facilities, server environments and related infrastructure. This includes specification, installation, and testing of server and storage systems and peripherals within established standards, as well as development and maintenance of data center support systems such as automated system provisioning, asset tracking, space planning, cable management, equipment monitoring and maintenance. These activities require timely troubleshooting of hardware, including servers, storage, electrical and mechanical systems, use of monitoring application software and operating systems to monitor, diagnose and resolve unique, non-recurring problems. These responsibilities require independent and team-based analyses, initiative and good judgment, communication and problem solving with work performed with little supervision.
Your job:
- Assist operations staff with the installation, configuration and ongoing usability of servers, storage systems, peripheral equipment and software.
- Work with vendor support contacts to resolve technical problems with computer, mechanical and electrical equipment and related software.
- Interact with numerous computer platforms in a multi-layered client/server environment.
- Create and maintain a well-organized list of inventory of all equipment and parts, as well as software licenses and maintenance agreements.
- Create and maintain detailed documentation on usage procedures and policies.
- Recommend and perform upgrades on systems to ensure longevity.
- Assess functional needs to determine specifications for purchases.
- Assist in maintaining mechanical systems that are required to support the facility.
- Perform asset tracking and space provisioning tasks as part of equipment deployments.
- Receiving, unpacking, assembling, racking and cabling of servers, storage systems and related components.
- Ensure facility is maintained to highest standards possible to ensure 100% uptime is achieved.
- Maintaining service logs and records for electrical and mechanical equipment.
- Perform routine test procedures on redundant mechanical and electrical systems to ensure operational availability.
- Escort and supervise mechanical and electrical contractors when performing maintenance and repair work to ensure work does not jeopardize system availability.
- Assist in periodic security reviews and audits to ensure facility is always secure.
- Perform rotating shift coverage to meet all support needs.
- Will be involved in shift work, including night shifts and emergency coverage.
- On-call coverage to provide additional support outside of regular business hours.
About you:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Computer Science and/or experience in supporting servers and data center needs within a mission critical environment.
- A good understanding of Microsoft Windows server and Linux environments as well as some Solaris knowledge an asset.
- Require excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of electrical power distribution systems and how they are used in a data center.
- Familiarity with large Generators and their operation an asset.
- Familiarity with mechanical equipment systems (CRAC, CRAH, evaporative cooling) an asset.
- Experience working in a mission critical data center facility.
- Excellent judgement skills in making critical decisions.
- Ability to lift and move large and awkward equipment safely.
- Working knowledge of VMware virtualization both on the server and client side an asset.
- Demonstrated knowledge of a large variety of server hardware configurations, able to assemble and repair server equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively in a team environment as well as independently in an effective and organized manner in a complex and challenging environment.
